It’s a small gesture of kindness, embracing those kids that don’t have friends at lunch time. This small act of kindness generates kids that are accepted and appreciated. And, who grow up to be thankful adults. It makes a difference.

My high school didn't have the problem of kids eating alone. This is because our principal Mr. S. enacted a new policy. He instituted assigned seating in the cafeteria. Then, just to make it interesting, he had the seating assignments randomly scrambled four times a year. Everyone was required to sit in their assigned chair. At first a lot of students complained and were upset. Eventually most of us saw the wisdom in the policy. I certainly did. In middle school there were about ten extra tables that few if anyone ever sat at. I spent most of my middle school years eating lunch alone. Then high school came. In the end I had friends I would not have had were it not for Mr. S.'s policy.

This episode is sooooo much better than the first Kindness 101 episode. In that episode Steve was in center stage 100%. It is soooooo much better and soooo much cuter!!! Merrill steals the show!!!

    Hi,
First let me say thank you to your whole family for putting how all of these videos. They are such an amazing teaching tool. We watch and learn from your videos a lot in my 2nd grade class.
I am looking for a video that can really explain open-mindedness with real people examples. I have looked through your list and I can’t find one. I find very closely related topics like empathy, inclusion, reciprocity, etc. I was wondering if you would send me a link to your video about open-mindedness or consider making one. Thank you very much. Take care, Holly.

Steve, your daughter should have her own youtube channel, She could do the same thing you do. I can see her finding her own people (without staff) to interview.

The difference between Empathy and Sympathy seem to be mixed. You can't Empathize unless you've truly experienced. Sympathy,,,,,,, should be a common human phenomenon of feeling sorrow for what someone else has been thru, even tho you haven't experienced the exact same.
