Join Don Riepe, Jamaica Bay Guardian for the American Littoral Society, as he talks about the importance of marsh restoration in Jamaica Bay. Over the past decades, hundreds of acres of marsh islands have been lost in Jamaica Bay. These important natural areas provide habitat for wildlife in the bay, help clean the water and provide a buffer to surrounding communities during storm events. Local organizations, residents and governmental agencies have worked to restore these important marshes. This video explores the importance of these marsh islands in Jamaica Bay and efforts to restore these marshes in the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.
