The dawless moniker makes no sense to me. It's like Newport calling their regular cigarettes "non-menthol". They're just cigarettes. It's just playing music with instruments. Nice video, have been pulling back from eurorack in favor of hybrid workflows. Seems a lot of people are.

yeah, I've been seeing the term 'hybrid' get thrown around a lot lately. It would probably make life easier I'm sure.
The thing with dawless is even if you're recoding to cassette or whatever, there's still the digital delivery that has to take place to get it out to the masses. I love it in theory but I hate that it's become something that people sorta of lie about.
      Thanks for watching!

It makes complete sense to my brain too man. I really like self contained devices. I liken it to design. The less friction and barriers the more I'll play it. Eurorack even thought you have to patch is self contained depending on how you run it. The M8 tracker (this device is the ultimate in self containment and it runs on batteries). I am sure I'd love the op-xy as well, but definitely don't want to shell the money for it yet. The moment there is more than 1 power cord, I start completely questioning it. Glad someone is talking about this though. Even the idea of using an external sequencer for eurorack is a tough pill. (if I did it would be the oxi one with pipe so it's just one cable). It is important. More important than most think.

@@anthony87fiorillo yeah I’m definitely listing the Keystep soon and going completely self contained. I feel like the Cycles covers a lot of ground as well but you’re stuck in the FM world. Pairing it with the analog mono is just for added flavor really. I think once I work out some kinks in my rack, it’ll be even more enjoyable and streamlined of an experience.

Yes! Exactly! For my brain, having a single contained rack, one power supply, a pile of cables, headphones, a y splitter and a small recorder is all I need. I get to control the amount of cables and how haphazardly I’m placing them and much like plugging in power and midi for multiple devices, it’s the fun part of the experience, the part of creation. Don’t know the last time someone thought of setting up their dawless setup as meditative. Anyway, there are power devices from people like the ones myvolts is working on that will simplify some of the power needs of setups but yeah, it’s an additional cost. Not saying either is better than the other synths vs eurorack or modular but I definitely fine one more compelling and scalable for my brain.

@@turbotambourine exactly. I’m excited to check out a multi power situation like the MyVolts but I never keep a hardware setup permanent for very long.
If I can get proper sequencing within my rack I’ll even ditch the Keystep.

@ you can do it! If you haven’t had it in the rack, it’s well worth it because it then becomes something that can move and change along with your rack. Your approach to doing so may vary though. If you like the keystep pro workflow, perhaps something like hermod + would interest you. Though, it might be tricky to fit within your current rack if you’re out of space. You could also get a small pod to fit it or any number of modules to get the drum sequencing going. I bet you’ve already went down this road to try and figure out options. If I can be of any help at all, let me know!

@ oh yeah, I’m gonna be making some changes soon that will free up some space. 2025 will be the year of simplification. I’ll check out that sequencer though, thanks for the rec.

@ awesome! Hermod + is a lot of module but if you don’t want menus there’s so many different ways to slice it. From tap recorders like the new one mzourack is working on or chaselight sequencers or real main brain of drum sequencing stuff like Metron. I find myself in the middle ground with different solutions depending the patch and looking into more trigger processing and switches for variety. Slowly building.

@ oh hey, I just realized who I’m talking to. I loved your recent video. Really makes me wanna get my Palette case back together.
