I just rewatched A Trip to the Moon yesterday, first rewatch in easily a decade. Apparently they got Jeff Mills to do the new ost for it back in 2017 I think. You wouldn’t believe how similar it sounds to AFX composition. I heard it and immediately thought, I need an AFX remix of this whole ost. The last few minutes of the film (like 10-14min mark) you’ll really hear it. It’s lovely.

I listened to this so many times through late 2020. Ethereal is exactly how I would sum up the whole track, Especially after 4:54 this feels like breaking out of a heavy rain storm to see the dark murky sky behind it.

I just noticed that this song finishes the same way it starts, it goes through phases 1,2,3,2,1. Same as Wheels of Confusion - Black Sabbath It goes 1,2,3,2,1 but then a long awesome outro.

The name already brings that to mind, but for the most part the melody and the overall texture of the track really reminds me of The Sims 2's music style, which was different from Sims 1 and Sims 3. In particular it reminds me of Sims 2's splash music. There are some qualities of Buy Mode 3, Build Mode 2, Build Mode 3, and others that feel like they have a similar signature to this Aphex track, but let's say this is the case, I wouldn't put it past Aphex to have played it himself or played it with his kid, got the tunes stuck in his head, and then expelled them by synthesizing the essence of Sims 2's music style in a single track.

It's two loops glued together with a lot of layering going on. You could say a similar thing about every track in SAW 85-92, and many of his other tracks to an extent (Drukqs, Syro, some Analord stuff, the Tuss, etc. being big exceptions). But oh well, who am I.

It's one of the most simple little loops but very enjoyable.
