Spending taxpayers money tarting up the markets, hoping to entice decent working families with money in their pockets to shop in Rotherham town centre. Nobody seems to mention or recognise the fact that the reason people have vacated the town centre is because it's become a ghetto, why should you have to run the gauntlet of beggars, thieves, druggies, drunks and general neer do wells that have made the town centre their day centre, to do a bit of shopping? Let's not demolish, let's not gentrify, let's not use a physical solution to tackle a social problem, let's tackle the social issues caused by Thatcher 👍
Its a good market rotherham although I've not been for a bit since my wife stopped working in town. Theres a great sweet shop at 2:41 in the vid its down the end of that aisle on the right. Did you ever go to the indoor and outdoor markets in Maltby? Where tesco is now. Don't think theres any footage of those online. If anyone has any footage it will be on a videotape.
@@timawellsit wasn't tesco originally, it was built as a co-op. It changed to tesco when somerfield was bought out by co-op as it would have meant two co-ops in the village. Co-op had the shop that had been somerfield (the unit that later became tofs and is now empty) and tesco moved in where it is now. This was about 2009 I think around same time as the old council buildings and swimming baths were replaced. Now there's no co-op at all.
@@timawellsyeah I mean you can't live in the past, things do change and it does you no good to dwell in nostalgia but there are things worth holding on to, things that make a particular place unique. They're gone now though so hopefully those people enjoy the giant tesco that's there now. Have you been to Boston Castle? Great view over Rotherham and Sheffield from up there as well as the park/gardens that are there. Possibly a good place for a vid
@@nowt1002 But they aren't changing for the better. They are wasting £36 million on the market for the sake of it, when at tops £5 million would have upgraded it. They will make it into a venue that no one uses any longer. It happened in Doncaster. Go woke go broke.
An absolute disaster if they yuppiefie the indoor market, I go there from Sheffield because ours was destroyed. My advice to any disgruntled Sheffielder, go to Rotherham market, I will hand leaflets out, outside the moor market. Use Rotherham instead!!!
I could be wrong but all these improvements are costing £35million so let’s hope it rejuvenates the town centre. Just need to scrap the stupid pedestrianised areas and let cars back in and also provide plenty of free parking in the central part of the town. Until that’s done Rotherham will always be dead.
@@timawells don’t forget they are also building a new library on the site. The last new one is hardly used so needs to be moved. It’s gross negligence what the incompetent council has done to our town centre. Someone needs to shoulder the blame. Look what they did to Herringthorpe leisure centre and other popular swimming pools around the borough just to get EU funding to build a new one at St Anns mainly for the minority community there. This is not speculation as it was told to me by our late councillor who thought it was the right thing to do at the time.
@@tonyjedioftheforest1364 Its at least the third central library in my lifetime. They had a fantastic one they knocked down for Tesco. Tesco should have been made to upgrade their site at Forge Island.

As usual I saw no police on the streets Richard.

Never went in the Maltby market, someone mentioned it when I vlogged Maltby. I can't believe Tesco was allowed to do that.

Hi Tim interesting video mate
Thanks Andy. You will enjoy the West Bar one coming up tomorrow.
This market have not changed inlast forty odd years outside market use to be better than Sheffield outside mkt❤

I reckon they will destroy it Richard as they did with Donny indoor market.
Rotherham is a toilet now!
Its sad. It was never great in the 1980s, looked tremendous back in the 50s and 60s.
@@timawells Before UK became a 3rd world sewer!
A fair little market.
Yes Leon all it needs is TLC, but that won't be the case.
Hi Tim, is this where the old Adam & Eve night club used to be about 50 years ago
I think it was, lads at work used to talk about it, but I never used it.
Yes the Adam and Eve nightclub used to be at the outdoor market, it later became Harveys I think.
@@Richard-gk3kq Something I don't remember from Rotherham Paul. I went in the big nightclub.
@@timawells You would have gone in Tiffanys on Main St past where the police station and council offices are.
@@Richard-gk3kq Yes. Silver or crystal goblet as well. Wasn't there a big pub down there called the Travellers?

Absolutely Tony. But the market only needs £5 million tops spending on it. They have waste £48 million on a cinema and hotel.

Not a lot wrong with it to be fair
Just needs a bit of tlc and a lock of paint
Do something about the open market to make it less draughty
There may have been traditional markets stall under there. Otherwise it may as well be indoor.
