My mum was an avid crocheted and made my daughter a cardigan in this stitch when she was a baby, it looked fantastic and kept her so warm. I didn't realise the pattern was so old.
oh I love that yeah , and I actually just saw this stitch again this morning in my 1891 pattern book , so it's older than I thought, just a bit though :)
😮 One of the church grandmothers made my baby a blanket and for the life of me, I couldn't figure out the stitch. It was this one! How wonderful! Thank you ❤ She used that yarn, too, but in lavender. She gave me the ball with the blanket and I was able to get a pair of booties and a 9-12 month dress out of it, with plenty left over still. That's really a value yarn!
I believe this is the same as the ocean waves stitch. Bag-O-Day has a video tutorial on it. It works up really fast and makes a great scarf or blanket.
I absolutely Love you vintage lessons, I have been looking for patterns that has not been made over and and over. I am glad Ito have found your videos and all your wonderful institutions, the mystery patterns that you do. Thank You so much!
Beautiful stitch! I don't recall ever coming across it before. I will absolutely use it sometime in the future. I'm going to look through my stitch dictionary & see if this is listed; if it is, I'll let you know & I'll tell you what it's called. Thank you for sharing your talents with us. xx
I’m so happy I found your channel. I absolutely love this stitch & vintage history lessons. You explain the patterns so well and make it easy to learn. Thank you Corrine.
Love this stitch. I'm definitely going to try it. I couldn't help thinking that it looked like a pair of bra cups, though! Thank you for bringing all these wonderful old patterns to us xxx
I have a bedspread crocheted by my grandmother that's entirely done in a variation of this, worked adding an extra "cup" every turn so that the pattern comes out diagonal. It's very warm.
Have I ever crocheted in my life? No. Did I watch this in its entirety like I crochet everyday?? Sure did. I have always wanted to learn though. I have such busy hands that I need to keep occupied due to anxiety and I think this would be a great tool to be able to calm them.
Thank you for this video. Your dialog is so helpful as well your example being clear and concise. Thanks for not having the same music over and over. I’m a novice and this looks very easy because of your tutorial.
This is similar to the drunken / sober granny stitch except you work into the chain spaces not the single crochet. This gives much more texture, love it ❤️❤️👏👏🇬🇧
I think I made an afghan in this pattern for my Mother in the 1970's ,but I don't remember it having a name ..I don't have the afghan anymore ,but it was so soft and warm ......I used 3 colors on it with long fringe on the ends ...thank you for great instructions
So glad to have found your channel. Love all the vintage crochet especially the filet crochet. Thanks so much. Your speaking voice and manner of explanation are so clear and easy to understand.
Thank you. I love watching your videos. As soon as I am done with a throw I'm making, I want to make some of your items that you have shared with us. I love the "old" patterns...maybe because I am antique!!😊❤
I will definitely be doing something with this stitch, never saw it before, love the way it looks with the four double crochet. Thanks so much for sharing.
Very cool stitch - love textural stitches! I've never seen it either. Would make a very warm blanket, so it is going onto my list of possible designs for a lap blanket I want to make for a friend. Thank you for teaching this to us!
Your beautiful and soothing voice (on top of a very precise tutorial) made me click on subscribe! Hoping for more tutorials and sending cheers from Sydney! 🎉🧶💐
I just love this stitch and I will be making a baby blanket soon! Keep up the great patterns!! I have a pattern that I lost directions to that my mom (she’s passed away), would love to see if you could find it. Think its from 70’s or 80’s. Granny rose blanket with puff stitches. Would love to finish it for her. It means a lot to me. ❤ love your channel!

Hi, Cortina. New sub here, I crochet(beg, intermediate) I like the vintage crochet you show and do. I did a baby blanket with a stitch pattern bag-o-day tutorialed, so similar as this one, except I think it went 2 sc on beg and end, ch 2 turn, sc 1st st, 3dc next sc stitch, etc, that's not the whole pattern but it works up almost exactly like the one you showed . Made a beautifull baby blanket. Well GOD BLESS see you on the tube 🙂 🙏.
Crazy stitch? Sounds like it was named for me 😳 I love it. Great tutorial ❤ I love the texture. Thank you for the baby blanket pattern at the end. This stitch would be great for for twiddle mats also. ❤
@@justvintagecrochet would thus pattern cone out equally well using dk yarn (light worsted weight) and what different hook sizes would you advise please? Many thanks
Loved this! I am currently trying to finish a blanket for my neice. I did one for her older child. My grandmother found a typed up pattern for a top and it was titled just shell top. She worked up a swatch to figure out the stitch and instead of making the top, did an afgahn. The stitch is very simple but if you do each row in a different color, it becomes very cool. I am doing this one in just two colors white on one side and blue on the other. One side of the blanket is blue with white showing through and the other white with blue showing. so the look is versed and looks like two different blankets in one when finished. You can just cut the yarn at the end of the row and add more fringe when finished but on a baby blanket, I don't like fringe so I just work over the tail from the previous row. The stitch is just a sc in first st, dc in next st, and a triple crochet in the next st, and repeat, always working in the loop, on the next row you do the same but you are always sc in a triple, dc in a dc and a triple in a sc. I don't know the year of the pattern. I learned to crochet from her and she learned from her mom etc. Some of her terms are English and some are American. I've had to watch some of her patterns to figure out which they are written in. I am 66 now and she was 13 in the early 20's. Between moving, storage, and age, I do not have many of her patterns left. She taught me to do the ripple stitch and I made a shawl using that as my first project in the late 60's or early 70's.
I just found your channel and this stitch is amazing I’m going to make a scarf first then a washcloth I love the way it looks thanks so much for sharing 😊😊😊😊

How did you know? I'm looking at "The Columbia Kimono"--1916 book, p. 55. - it says "floss" doubled (2 strands tog). I've never done a kimono style before and the 24/7 yarn from Lion Brand said #4 weight but it's the size of R. H. Luster Sheen--Fine wt. Only the yoke is double-strand, the body is Crazy Stitch/Shells....(to be continued)...
