I am so glad I found the gardeners workshop! I have learned so much from you and have such a better understanding of how to grow beautiful flowers. I have a small container garden as I live in an apartment. Can you recommend varieties that would be good in a greenstalk?
Hello, Tonia! There are a lot of flowers that work well in containers 🙂 For whichever type of flowers you are interested in, I would look for more compact varieties as a jumping-off point. Best of luck, and thanks so much for watching! 🤗
I'm just now getting around to watching this and have found it so helpful. I live in Zone 7B north Mississippi, which has very hot and humid summers, but I love the cottage garden flowers. I still have a lot to learn but have been very successful with foxgloves, nigella and Bachelor's Buttons. However, we had a freeze event in December that killed all of my hardy annuals, including foxgloves, so I seeded Camelot and Dalmation right after Christmas since they are supposed to flower the first year. My question is, will they also come back and bloom next spring, as well? Also, I have clay soil, which is well-amended for better drainage. I'm not sure what type of soil you grow in, but will that also make a difference in wintering over these hardy annuals? I have your Cool Flowers book, which I consult on a regular basis!
The deer came in and munched on my Companula, Canterbury Bells stems early. So it was like me penching them back. No problem! They came out beautiful! So I was lucky. Live your advise!!
Really interesting. Like your idea of trying at least three times if at first you don't succeed try again, and again, and again. I'm just setting out on my journey growing cut flowers and sometimes the mind boggles as to when, where and how. I think sometimes just go for it and learn along the way. Hello, Becky! I did some quick research on 'American Gold Rush' rudbeckia, and it appears that this variety is propagated by cuttings rather than seeds or tissue culture. If you are interested in this variety, you may need to purchase plugs or plants. Hope this helps ☺
You grow dill for swallowtails, why not also grow fennel? Or do a session on growing herbs with ornamental. Good idea to grow them in same area or not? How do you manage seed drop from dill (or rudbeckias or others).
Fennel would be great, as well! I also grow a lot of parsley for black swallowtail butterflies. I would love to do an episode on herbs 🙂 To reduce self-seeding, it helps to remove the faded blooms before they have produced seeds. Thanks for watching, Becky! 🤗

My foxglove grew 5 ft. In part shade.. I unfortunately am allergic. So after 4 years I ripped them out painfully. Godetia performed better in heat but had afternoon shade.. learning so much listening to you ladies. Keep up the good work❤

I planted Canterbury bells, a mixed color packet. Only had a medium purple color. They were beautiful though

Fennel is one of the most important plants in my garden. It's so beautiful and valuable. Northern Ohio.

Slugs eat my rudbeckia, I was able to keep the rabbits out of it using row cover.

Why don't you grow Chinese Asters?
A disease called aster yellows can make growing China asters a challenge in our area. They are beautiful, though! 😍
