    The Mares XR Single Backmount Set is a complete single cylinder system in a backplate, harness and wing setup. Built For Travel the backplate is 3mm Aluminium but gives you the rigidity of a metal backplate. The backplate and wing setup is easy to upgrade and adjust to your diving and your shape. The One-Piece Harness is fully adjustable to you and your suit and once set up won't need adjusting.

    I got one of these, and have always appreciated Mares' talent for good aesthetic design, and also practicality. I also applaud them for releasing a ready-to-go backplate set up because let's face it, you don't need to be a tek diver or diving on twins to get benefit out of a backplate & wing. The main reason I got one is because my weight fluctuates so much that my old Cressi BCD could not be adjusted to the full range of my weight.
    So I got the blue battle, loved the design and comfort. I also got some of Mare's sidemount/sideweight pockets for integrated weights. Only problem I had was tank bands - I found on a wide diameter cylinder (I use a 12L compact steel), the cylinder would often fall out of at least one band. I don't know whether I just lacked the physical strength to close them or what, but I replaced the tank straps with Aqualung Griplocks and it's a super painless system to use now. My mum who has about 8 dives to her name, has been using it in the pool during lockdown and really enjoying it too, so I think there's a pretty big market for an easy-to-use backplate system for recreational divers.

    I'm diving with this BCD for a year. It's really comfortable underwater. It takes a bit of time to get used to it but once done you gonna enjoy it's simplicity.

    I have this BC and love it. The holes on the edges of the backplate are also good places to clip off your reel and SMB or whatever else you might carry. Very simple, minimalist BC.

      I put a couple of these pockets on the waist strap and a couple of pockets on the top cam band. It allows you to really adjust the balance of weight on the rig. And its super streamlined.

    I bought this bcd for a trip to the Red Sea after 10 dives it started self inflating and after being cleaned the by tech at the dive centre continued. The serial number wasn't under the recall but after getting back to the uk mares are replacing the inflator foc!

    I've got the red version and it's great.
    There was a recall (free swap) on the inflator so make sure to check it before you dive.

    Are you able to add weights or weight pouches to this? Would this be a good starter into backplates? I eventually wanting to get started into tech, but on a budget. Thanks

    I chose this BCD and added 2 Diverite quick release weight pockets and this is what I found imho. I I'm 76Kg and i dove this BP/w in just a rash guard and then 2.5 mm shorti in a pool. Yeah, sure salt water is gonna make you more buoyant but I had to remove the weight pockets as I found I was over weighted on both occasions. It got a little better in the 2mm shorti and I'm going to try my 3mm full suit soon.
    Just a quick question about the inflator. Is the inflator interchangeable with say any other brand of inflator as I agree with Mark I'm not a fan of this inflator ?

    Is the bladder removable from the back plate. Ideally I'd like to set it up for twin cylinders using the same backplate

    Can we get footage of these types of products actually in use? Demonstration of how it looks and works in the water? Seeing it on land is great but that's not where it's meant to be used.

    • @LarsDennert
      @LarsDennert 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. Backplates vary wildly on how easy they are to adjust and get off depending on feed through the plate. The webbing looked fairly soft but the review left the most important feature omitted; fit. I can adjust my plate to fit my 60lb 12 year old and he can work it; but he has his own...

    What should i get first? A bcd like this or my own regs? I feel like getting this first bc a renthal reg is just as good as my own would be but this wing style bcd is much better than the regular renthal jacket. Do you agree?

    • @banebanebane
      @banebanebane 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      999racing this might be controversial, but I would get a BCD/BPW before regulators simply because having your weighting/trim dialed in will improve your enjoyment of diving a lot more than personally owned regulators. Also if short on cash it’s easy to piece together a BPW on the cheap if you are willing to do the work/research

      999racing if you are in the US Divegearexpress has a BPW combo for $349. You can also put something together on amazon for maybe $300 if you get an $80 backplate and harness combo and find a deal on a wing

    How you attache the weight, diving bp/w. I just got one and need weight bc of my dry suit. I bought two pockets and a p weight now.

    • @KB-gd6fc
      @KB-gd6fc 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought two Apecks surelock ditchable weight pockets to put on it. But if you're going for the whole DIR concept you can just put 2 trim pockets on each cam bands. That leaves you with no ditchable weight but I think that's part of the DIR philosophy.

    • @PHH1103
      @PHH1103 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KB-gd6fc i dont feel good without ditchable weight pockets too. So its common to use weight pockets? Inever saw smb on youtube talking bout them in videos about Harness and packplate

    • @KB-gd6fc
      @KB-gd6fc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PHH1103 it is pretty common to see people adding ditchable weight pockets to back plate wing system.

    • @KB-gd6fc
      @KB-gd6fc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PHH1103 there's lots of different weighting options for these systems. Some people use weight belts (which isnt really ditchable if theres a crotch strap over it)
      Others (like myself) buy quick release pockets.
      And some just put trim pockets on the waist strap.
      That's the cool thing about backplate wing systems. You can customize them to be what you want.
