Intertwined and grounded within her ancestral lineage, and with a fierce devotion to the health of future generations on Earth, Rita shares how she is carrying the precious traditions and rights of indigenous communities forward into this era of profound changes and awakenings.
She is an inimitable force, and one of the major young female representatives and communicators of the Huni Kuin people. She is co-founder of the Kayatibu group, which promotes the culture and spirituality of its people through the arts, and of the Indigenous women’s association ‘Ainbu Dayá’.
She is also a talented visual artist, depicting traditional stories of her culture in her art. Her works have been exhibited in the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art and at Berlin Art Week, amongst others.
Rita Huni Kuin lives in the remote village of Jordão in the state of Acre in the Brazilian Amazon.
