This is beautiful. I loved the Ganesh on the wall and how it represents their love for nature in their religion even as people call us funny names for 'worshiping an elephant'. Absolutely beautiful. I miss Tamil Nadu 😭😭

This scene reminded me of a kitty I was taking care of, his name was Teenu and I had to give him up as someone adopted him and my own cat did not like him much.

Watched this now and its so so so emotional. Urban life is harsh, inhuman, cold, uncaring, away from nature and mostly exploitative. This documentary is all about love, life, joy and fulfilling. It invokes and triggers same emotion as if caring and losing our own child.

I too am in SA ... I watched this whilst having my morning coffee before getting ready for work. It gave me a sense of peace and tranquility for the entire day. I returned from work and sat down with my niece and watched it again and she loved it!! The unadulterated respect for nature as depicted in this beautiful film restores one's faith in humanity. It's wonderful to chance upon something so heartwarming when we least expect.

people are giving more importanceto the Oscar award than the them of this movie. We need to preserve jungles,forests for the wildlife and let them live in peace without interference and destruction. This couple's efforts are beyond amazing. These awards are not really important but if it creates awareness in few people about the need to respect forests,jungles,open space, flora and fauna, then it is al l worth it.

Because of Oscar Award, this summer (march 2023) onwards, huge crowd started visiting Mudhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and Ooty.... to hear the whispers of these souls.....

Being from Bangalore & having been to mudumalai, I’ve seen first hand, how every one of them, from safari drivers to the people who feed these animals are so passionate about protecting these animals & their environment. They know the forest inside out, they know the temperament of the animals in the forest. Everything you see in this documentary, every emotion, every smile & tears are raw & true.
Have to add that this is also a very South Indian trait to live with the environment & respect & nurture the surroundings we live in. It’s probably why southern part of India is clean & green compared to the rest of India.
greenery is also due to abundance of water as compared to places like my hometown in Rajasthan.

I am really glad to see that this documentary won the Oscars. Anybody who has pets, and loves animals, could see that the family who cared for the elephants as their own kids, finds this movie endearing, deeply moving, and healing. Also, the makers of the movieKartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga and their team spent 5 years in the wild doing this project without any glamour. Great respect for all those involved.

The most heartwarming documentary I have been in a while, it beautifully showcases the precious bond between a mother and their children, not human one, but one who understands their grief better than humans. The story of Raghu and ammu, two orphan elephants in mudumalai national park is one that is important to be told in a world where the conservation of animals and nature is getting disrupted everyday by the notorious activities of the people around them.
Please watch it and it's one of a kind.

In the movie the language is not Tamil, it is Badaga a mixture of Kannada and Tamil but sounds more like Kannada.

They live in the border of 3 states so their tribal dialect has influence from all 3 states Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. The documentary was shot in mudhumalai situated in Tamilnadu with the support of Tamil Nadu forest department. They are Hindus and follow Tamil traditions 2:23

When I started, I thought it was a regular documentary. But in 40 mins it makes you cry, laugh and fall in love. Unbelievable shots were taken and make you want to go back to Forest. Deserve to get an Oscar and need to encourage this kind of movies. Appreciate the hard work of Kartiki Gonsalves !!

I could relate to this . The bond between the animals and the humans is truly amazing . I had a pet dog called laila. She was pampered by me and I was pampered by her. She was just like my sister . She was a child when I adopted her and grew at a rapid pace than me and became old in front of me . I used to feed her everything - from vegetables to allo ke paranthe to Rajma chawal to fruits to biscuits and namkeen. By God’s grace she never had any problem and never got any disease till the last stages of her life where she just felt weak. 10 odd years she lived with me like a queen. I wish she comes back to me again in the form of daughters or son.

Same with my puppy. No animal lover & caretaker can wipe out the pleasant & sweet memories of those adorable days. Similar documentary or movies must release atleast 2 years span so that many could learn and adapt the love towards animals.
