OMG! My biggest passion is music production and my jaw dropped when Leo made that analogy with the mixing board. I frequently face life as a giant mixing board, and it's awesome to suddenly see him putting it like that. Thank you for everything you've done for society, Leo.

    Work : Chill
    Personal development : Enlightenment
    Theory : Action
Left brain (logic) : Right brain (intuition)
    Practicality : Vision
    Protectiveness : Openness
    Seriousness : Playfulness
    Change : Acceptance
Spending time by yourself : Spending time with others
    Rigidity : Flexibility
    Internal focus : External focus
    Business : Art
    Strategy : Spontaneity
    Assertiveness : Patience
    Directing conversation : Deep listening
The balance between each is down to the situations of each individual. Apply wisdom to what side's currently needed more than the other, or if down the middle is best to reach your balance.

Man, you really opened my eyes with this one. I think this is definitely what I have most trouble with in my life, without having it realized until now. Instead of being a conscious, dynamic and adaptable person, I feel like I was more on the way to becoming rigid and dogmatic. When something becomes nothing but a routine, it becomes an unconscious activity. I've noticed this with art, personal development and even meditation. Maybe this is routed in not knowing or forgetting the purpose of certain actions, and instead creating inner rules to obey, so one can avoid conscious decisions and set aside the emotional labor.
This is definitely something I have to remind myself alot. Even though it takes the illusion of security away, because there is no perfect pathway one can follow, it does feel liberating to know that one must find their own path, one that cannot be predicted.

Why empower the people to think for themselves, to be mentally healthy, to be happy and competent? Imagine how much money the top dogs lose! Haha No, no, the reality is that we live in a near Hell on Earth because society lives under limits of the richest fucks who dictate it.

I'm from Italy and was convinced that in countries like the US these things were taught in schools. What came up for me from Leo's life purpose course (which I strongly recommend) is exactly this: to introduce self development in schools as compulsory subject. I know it's crazy, but shouldn't our life purpose be crazy, huge and revolutionary? :)

To me, Leo, this is quite possibly the best video you've made. I've watched several, and with this video I can't stop nodding and saying "Oh man, that's me, that's me there too, that's my ex, that's my Mom... etc..." My whole life I could see that balance was crucial, and never understood why so much of the masses do not seem to be as aware. Then I realized, most of us are aware, most people, like me, think they have achieved balanced, but have simply bought entirely into another extreme...or we feel like we endlessly pursue it, never fully achieving, forgetting to look back at our successes. For me my issue is that over-achieving success-seeking creative-beast-feeding mentality, mixed with being far too brutally honest and sharing too much at times...which I guess I'm doing now again maybe? lol, I feel like it's ok since you shared yours as well :)

  • @aliwashington8117

Amazing! Sister and I were just talking about this topic today. The balance in life is so key. The understanding that balance is not a static thing that will be achieved, but something that will be constantly adjusted, is something that once understood can be a HUGE key in avoiding stagnancy and backsliding. Most do not understand that stagnancy truly IS backsliding - that we do not ever reach the perfect place and then hang out. We must commit ourselves to always changing, growing and maturing, otherwise we must, by law, start to backslide. As in nature - anything that is not growing, is dying. Allow for the shifts in perspectives, values and priorities. Thank you!

Each student must be tackled in a different manner. Sometimes the oracle tells you what you need to hear not what is. There is actually a difference between talking about the path and walking the path. Free will is not free. Common sense is not common.

leo, self-development is helping me enjoy life, like, since the beginning. it has been really easy for me to understand you, i'm being very patient, etc. i'm meditating 35 min a day, for three months... but again, it's still early and i'm doing good, imo. just now with you always saying that it's too hard and it will take years and years is making me think if i'm not fooling myself or doing something wrong.

This really pairs nicely with a realization Ive had, which is that a life lived 100% mechanically is bound to fail. Great video Leo, your points keep giving myself and my friends more and more power to grow.

This video is very relevant; At first, I thought some of Leo's videos have contradictory messages, but now I think that it's just a matter of balance between the two messages. For example, in the minimalism video, Leo basically says forgo unnecessary social interactions, but in the confidence video, he says to expose yourself to a lot of social interactions.

  • @vincentmusanti5000

Great video Leo! I learned that balance is about not being attached to any way of life. It is impossible to be dynamic if your feeling of lack persists in certain situations. If you are no longer attached to situations or experiences, you can be totally flexible based on the needs of the situation. You will no longer feel threatened by situations if you "learn the nature of the one that is threatened". Because if you believe you can be harmed by the forms in life, you will fear types of people, situations, and experiences that all don't appear to fulfill your "lack". It's crazy how understanding reality, yourself, and how resistance and desire work can lead to acceptance, wholistic understanding, and all of those things. I think it's key to understand that all people have the same essential feelings of desire and fear yet based on their life circumstances, these feelings have manifested in different ways that might conflict with what you want and what you resist; therefore, we are all operating on the same mechanisms. I like the blog a lot

Hi, I really want to say how much I really enjoyed your videos, and this one in particular. I completely agree that one of the most challenging things in life is finding a balance, often times because you don't realize that you are in an extreme position until something dramatic happens. I just came out of a situation in which my job was my whole life for the pass year and a half. Needless to say my personal life suffered for it and eventually my work performance began to suffer because my personal life became more problematic. It was a vicious cycle. I eventually quit my job and took some time out to reassess the direction I wanted my life to go and to salvage my relationships and it certainly wasn't easy. I think that the most intimidating part of recognizing that you are in an extreme position, is trying to re-balance yourself. Mainly because a lot of your identity is associated with these beliefs and without them, you are a bit loss on who you are.

    About dynamic balance...
Not only that, but the dynamic balance adds up experience through our life, and as long as this universe exists, we will accumulating knowledge. Think of this in that way: Let's say you want to learn many instruments really well, you play everyday 20 minutes one instrument, for a total of 12 hours, which leads to 36 instruments, well. After a decade, you will probably know how to play all of them, but you will, much probably, not play them all REALLY GOOD. If you take an different approach and take a group of 3/4 instruments per day with this 12 hours, after a decade you will probably be really good with these instruments.
Another example would be language learning, if you try to learn many languages in one year you will not learn really well the languages you choose, but if you, on another approach, take one language per year you will learn really better.
The way to benefit from this tactic is by cycling through these learning cycles, you might forget a little bit of what you've learned when you were practicing other instruments or languages, but if you try to return, it will be really faster, because something is kept inside of you as principle, that can't be forgotten, like learning to ride a bicycle, you can never unlearn it, unless you have brain damage.
That is the only way i see to become a real jack of all trades and master of many!
ALSO LEO SHOULD REALLY DIVULGE ACTUALIZED.ORG "BLUEPRINT" ONCE AGAIN, IT IS A REALLY GOOD RESOURCE!

In a relationship that I had, I had some difficulty in balancing unconditional love with the need to say no and deny more times, until I understood that my girlfriend was sometimes guided by the urgency and need for pleasure and satisfaction of her ego.In fact, a Jesuit friend of mine gave me some advice on that issue.

I love how you mentioned a static and dynamic balance.
Static balance is always preached, but dynamic balance, not so much.

Lol, dude this is so smart. See there's you tubers who crank out content because it makes them money and there's a handful of youtubers who actually do it for a purpose or "art". Leo has never advocated that you can be better person by strictly "watching" his videos. In fact, he's almost selling himself short by essentially saying, " you can listen to what I have to say all day long but if you don't actually DO anything about it then you might as well not even subscribe"

Dear Leo, this is a very big topic for me on actualize. Because from the moment I started really watching your channel I had ONE big question in my mind. I know for newbies, this might not be something to consider yet. But It's hard to continue a life of Mindfulness when there's a possibility that one can actually, after letting go of all their ideals and ego that a person could get to a state of being TOO BALANCED
So my question is, how to avoid the imbalance of balance itself. Because a struggle in my life has actually been the lack of any ideals can also be damaging. Ideas must also be something we balance because without them entirely 100% then we may enter a state of too much balance. Where we have a lack the foundation on which to stand. But I've heard you mention that we restructure our foundation. Not eliminate it. So my real question is... What is the foundation for a self actualized lifestyle on a daily example. Because if we are constantly up in the air about opinions on things then the unbalance would be that we lack the ability to make decisions at times when picking a side can be nessecary. And when it comes to making a decision, we need some direction we lean in more than another. But if we have complete open mindedness then where is the ability to find a decision when we have no ideals on how to lean?
Also, do you find it possible to live too much of an actualized life style? Could this be something we also need to find balance in?
    I'd appreciate an answer.
    Sincerely, Maddy.

Balance: Some methods work for some but not for others, I start to see how important it is to study this stuff, we still will fall down some traps though, all of us. I see Osho for example was against religion; "it's unbelievable that this guy was enlightened and still stayed as a Christian, absolutely unacceptable", so even the most enlightened masters fall down these traps, well that's how it is to be human. What you should do depends on the situation, a good way to find your balance is simply to follow your authentic desires, but sometimes it works and is even better to force yourself to follow a healthy diet and then notice that you feel amazing.

Hi Leo, I hope this finds you well. I wanted to thank you for posting Will Young's song on your blog. It made me cry at some point, and I shared it with many people around me who told me they either smiled or felt love, like I did. A bit unrelated to this video which is great by the way but thank you.
