SPOILER WARNING!!! I am watching all Star Wars in Chronological order; I have seen the Original Trilogy but nothing else beyond the Kenobi so please be careful of spoilers in the comments.
Not a spoiler since you've seen OT- WEDGE as seen in this episode not only survives all three movies, saves Luke a couple of times and fires the shit that destroys the second Death Star! PLUS, the actor that played Wedge is the uncle of Ewan McGregor!
Years before this episode was released, a book focusing on Wedge had him specifically credit "Fulcrum" for him becoming part of the Rebellion, this episode revealed how.
In the Old Canon, Wedge's story was deeper and, in my opinion, more interesting. To begin with, he smuggled contraband from childhood, helping his smuggler uncle. Then he had to look for the pirates who killed his relatives. That's why he even agreed with the Empire, because the Empire was clearing the Galaxy of pirates. Then one day he fell in love and only after a while he learned that his girlfriend’s father was a rebel. For her sake, he brought weapons and equipment to the local rebels, but was not going to join the Rebellion. Then the ISB raided a local rebel cell, Wedge's girlfriend, her father and brother were killed like many others, including civilians. Wedge himself, having learned about this, was filled with grief for some time and wandered around the Galaxy, trying to forget, but then the Imperials became interested in him too. Deciding that this was a sign of fate, he contacted rebel agents and offered his services as a pilot. From this time on, the story of the rebel, avenger and idealist Wedge Antilles began.
22:38 Those are TIE Interceptors, which both have more laser cannons than regular TIEs and are faster. They’re usually piloted by more skilled pilots than the average TIE as well. As a general rule of thumb, the more elaborate a TIE’s wings, the more dangerous the craft and/or experienced/skilled the pilot.
Not much to point out today, but the TIE wings thingy is a direct callback to the original Kenner TIE Fighter toys from the 70s/80s, they had a "battle damage" mode in which the wings popped off, so they took it as inspiration for this episode :3
@@liaml.e.5964 in Star Wars rebels, the tie fighters are incredibly out of proportion. They are modeled after the Kenner toy that’s why the wings are so small and stubby.
The analogy I can use for Thrawn is like a tree. Other officers are hacking away small bits (aka small groups) but Thrawn wants to take the tree down in one swing (aka the ENTIRE rebellion).
Wedge was the other x wing survivor from episode 4. He and luke went on to create rouge squadron and faught in the battle of hoth and survived there as well. Then in epiosde 6 he helped lando blow up the 2nd death star. Hobby also flew in the battle of hoth which he didnt survive.
Knowing this makes that mission so much more impactful 😂 They didn't just save two random pilots but one that's close to Luke which also makes a really cool bridge between him and the Phoenix Squad.
Fun fact, the dark-haired pilot is Wedge Antilles. He first showed up in the original trilogy; if you recall he serves as Red Two during the Attack of the Death Star in a New Hope, Rogue Three during the Battle of Hoth in Empire Strikes Back and helps lead the attack on the second Death Star as Red Leader in Return of the Jedi. The blonde pilot, Hobbie (real name Derek Klivian) is also from the original trilogy where he serves as Rogue Four during the Battle of Hoth. I can't recall any other appearances he's had.
It makes the episode so much more impactful knowing what these two mean for the OT, and I love that it actually creates a really cool connection between the Ghost Crew and Luke!
There are three different TIE Fighter models shown in this episode, all of them from Sienar Fleet Systems. The ones with the hexagonal wings, the standard ones, are TIE/LN Starfighters, They are cheap, and has two laser cannon near the cockpit. 60'000 Credits each, though the Empire gets them for 25'000 via Military requisition charges. The ones with more fan-like wings, that angle inwards a bit at the top and bottom, are TIE/IN Interceptors. They've got 4 additional laser cannons on the wingtips and are faster and better. Costs 120'000 credits each, where as the Empire gets them for 50'000 instead. The last one is the one which Sabine, Wedge and Hobbie escaped in, is a TIE/SA Bomber. The most used Imperial bomber, slower but more durable than the two other mentioned. The bomber costs 150'000 credits normally, though the Empire still gets them for 60'000 instead. Sienar IS a military contractor after all. And it really doesn't matter much if Sienar gives the Empire these craft for cheaper, since the Empire purchases them in bulk, and makes up for it by how many of them they buy from Sienar. Note that I THINK that is what "Military requisition charges" mean... I am no expert, honestly...
Maul's base in this episode is the same one from the Son of Dathomir comics. Also Wedge and Hobbie are 2 characters from the Original Trilogy. Wedge was in all 3 and Hobbie was in Empire Strikes Back where he was killed on Hoth.
Love the connection to the Son of Dathomir comics, and now knowing about Wedge and his importance, it makes his presence so much more impacful with how he connects everything to the OT.
Hi, Ben! Hope all is well with you! Sorry I didn't get to this earlier, but it's been a strange day. Not bad, just..... strange. 11:00 - That is the way of Bendu. Balance. Remember, he is the middle between the light and the dark. He can use both without being consumed by either. 12:55 - "Once a secret is known, it cannot be un-known." This is one of the harshest truths I've learned in my lifetime. I don't know what kind of music you're into, but there's a song lyric that also states this; "Sometimes I wish to God I didn't know now, things I didn't know then." (Poison, "Something to Believe In") That song makes me emotional every time I hear it, because of the things I've seen in my life that I can't forget. I tend to hide it well, but I can still be affected by it. Anyway... You'll understand why Bendu told them this, soon enough. 14:30 - It IS possible to survive in space for a VERY short time. That's actually a fact you can look up. But whatever you do, do not take in a deep breath like you do going into water. You want your lungs as empty as possible. And even then, you've got only a minute or so. 22:40 - Those are TIE Interceptors. VERY fast, VERY maneuverable (even more so than regular TIE fighters). If you get the game "Rogue Squadron" (it's on Steam, and likely on sale right now), you can fly one after a certain point of the game. 24:20 - I'm not going to spoil it... but you're going to shit when you find out who this Fulcrum agent is. 29:55 - Okay.... possibly a MINOR spoiler (only telling it because you've seen the Original Trilogy): Wedge Antilles and Hobbe both end up in Rogue Squadron with Luke Skywalker. Both are mentioned, Episode IV Wedge was one of Luke's wingmen taking down the Death Star, Hobbe was part of the group trying to take down the Imperial Walkers (AT-ATs) in Episode V. This is how they joined the Rebellion. Interesting notation to that: Luke turned leadership of the squadron over to Wedge when he went off to do his Jedi training. 31:25 - The "wings" of the TIE fighters coming off is SO 1978 TIE fighter toy ship! I know, because I had one (well, two if you count Vader's ship). That was how you simulated the fighter being destroyed. And yes, I had ALL of those toys. Wish I still did, to be honest. 35:00 - The TIE Bomber is about a slow as a Y-Wing, because it needs to drop bombs on targets. It's not built for ship to ship combat. Especially against a TIE Interceptor. 36:45 - I hesitate to say it..... but just keep watching. I mean, I know that you will...... but.... remember what Bendu said.... Once something is known, it cannot be un-known. Also, the old adage: Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
Bendu is just such a weird thing to get my head around and I don’t want to trust it completely since it’s in the middle and could offer either a light or dark solution to whatever Kanan and Ezra ask of it. This line is so powerful and just makes me think of how children and young people are seen as more innocent than older people since they know less, knowledge by its nature is so powerful and can completely change people. This whole situation is just terrifying, I know I’d just take a deep breath out of instinct, so this is just a living nightmare! Knowing who Wedge and Hobbe are now adds so much more to this episode, love how we get to see the origin of two amazing pilots from the OT and I love the connection it creates between the Ghost Crew and Luke.
@@benspiller Just touching on the "once something is known, it cannot be un-known" topic again: I have seen things that would horrify most people, in my life. Yes, they have affected me, but I've chosen to use those things to make me stronger rather than destroy me. Believe me, watching my first wife take her final breath as I was holding her hand very nearly destroyed me. But I also learned that something I'd read in a Douglas Adams novel decades prior, was also very true: "Sometimes, the only way to save your sanity is to go insane for a while." That may sound counter-intuitive, but it's actually not. You actually CAN preserve your sanity by going out of your mind for a while. Just don't do anything stupid or permanent in doing so. Just a little life lesson for you to keep in the back of your mind, in case you ever need it. Have a great day, my friend!
23:30 Fulcrum being an codename for multiple rebel spies is based on a real world counterintelligence practice used during at least WW2 and the cold war (though it could well be in use today as well there's just no public information on that for obvious reasons). It helps obfuscate how many spies they actually have, and makes it harder for the empire to identify a singular spy based on the information they know they provided (Otherwise they can effectively just binary search based on who had what information that they know the codename provided).
Wedge is the main Rebel Pilot we always saw in the battles throughout the original films. Hobbie was present at the Battle of Hoth, as he was following along when Luke's Snowspeeder got shot down.
Love that the pilots have more importance than I thought, really makes the episode more impactful plus creates a cool connection between the Ghost Crew and Luke!
Because of how they are created, the materials used in their creation, and how they operate, Holocrons are objects of the Force in a way. When an object of the light and an object of the dark are opened together and combined-
I'd love for an episode to go in-depth on how a Holocron is created or just seeing a Jedi we have around now make one, the idea of Force objects is so interesting and clearly extremely powerful!
Let's start with the symbolism and the question: What does Ezra want? There are two things Ezra wants: 1. To be a Jedi, follow the path of the Light, and do good. 2. To gain strength, become more powerful, and achieve his goals, often in easier ways. Here lies the conflict-these motivations can contradict each other. Kanan symbolizes Ezra's current path, while Maul represents temptation. Temptation is not able to eliminate the path (he failed to kill Kanan twice), but it is enough to corrupt it, change it, just to influence Ezra's decisions. We saw what Maul did-he intended to take everything from Ezra to force a change in him. With such an approach, Maul wouldn’t become Ezra’s new master but could successfully corrupt him-this is why I used the term temptation. Ezra stated he wanted to destroy the Sith, but Maul said something interesting: Hope. Maul’s path has always ended the same way: -Defeat by Kenobi and the loss of his legs -Defeat by Kenobi because he couldn't pull him to the dark side -Defeat by Palpatine and the loss of his brother -Defeat by Palpatine and the death of Talzin -Defeat by Ahsoka and the loss of Mandalore -Defeat by himself and abandoning the syndicate and Qira -Defeat by Kanan to become Ezra's new master No wonder he used the word hope. Maul is depicted as a mythological Sisyphus, achieving occasional successes but ultimately always facing defeat. At this point, Maul asks himself: "What’s the point of my life if I keep losing?" He wants hope but can’t see it (just as he initially saw nothing in the holocrons). The only path he knows, the path of destruction offers no hope and only takes more and more from him. (As Yoda and Kanan taught Ezra, destruction leads to self-destruction.) When it comes to pilots, I believe the Imperial training system was the best, and only TIE pilots were truly competent in fighting the Rebellion. The Empire successfully trained skilled squadron leaders and many aces. However, here's the problem: Sabine infiltrated and recruited two pilots. These pilots, familiar with the Imperial training system, will now assist in training Rebel pilots. While these Rebel pilots won’t initially match the Imperials, over time, they’ll gain experience, and their numbers will grow stronger. As I mentioned before, the Battle of Endor was a formality. The second Death Star was a desperate attempt to restore control through tyranny-a desperate and senseless plan because the Rebellion wouldn’t have stopped in such a scenario. We even saw how the Imperials reacted after losing the Executor (their flagship). They didn’t defend the Death Star-they abandoned it and fled. You say Pryce is smart? Maybe, but this episode showed her flaws: impulsiveness, pride, and sadism. She is the opposite of Thrawn. Thrawn would have used this information to achieve a greater victory. For example, he might have investigated how the Rebel pilot recruitment system works. Imagine how many cards he could have immediately gained through observation alone. And if he decided to plant his own spy or even himself in that system... Pryce, however, satisfies her pride and sees eliminating the perceived threat as a victory. This is naïve logic. Pryce cannot leverage what the enemy has handed her to achieve a devastating victory. Instead, we see the results: Pryce eliminated only one pilot, while Sabine and the recruits escaped successfully. That’s not a victory. Finally, we have Kallus’s "betrayal of the Empire". He has repeatedly shown himself to be an honorable warrior, repaying his debt to Zeb. That is undoubtedly his primary motivation. Additionally, Kallus outright despises Pryce and finds her repugnant. Even in this episode, she belittled and humiliated him. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if, in a scenario where Sabine was in real danger near other Imperials, he would somehow still help her.
Love how you’ve analysed this! The symbolism is so evident and perfectly shows what’s happening to Ezra and how it probably affected the answer he got. Maul has turned into such a tragic character, he felt so powerful in the past but now it’s clear that the power he had was fleeting, he’s so far down the path of self-destruction and now we’re seeing the effects of it. The line of Hope is really sad to hear as the answer proves there’s no change for him, Hope could have meant turning from this path and becoming better but instead, he sees nothing meaning this is no longer an option and all that’s left of his life is this path of self-destruction. The pilots are such a good addition, the number gained from the Empire may be small but as you said they’ll be able to benefit the Rebellion in other ways than numbers. Their ability and the fact they were able to escape will mean a lot for the Rebels and the Empire, it might actually give hope to others looking to defect if they know it’s possible. You’re so right about Pryce, I do think she’s smarter than the average Imperial and I think that’s due to her time with Thrawn but she’s also clearly super evil, impulsive and likes death too much. Her pride cost her this victory, and I can only hope it can get in the way more as this proved she quite formidable. Kallus’ betrayal here has made me so hopeful for his future!! It’s such a great look into where his honour will take him even to betray the Empire and as you said he hates Pryce so it gives me so much hope that this scene will only grow into him fully leaving!
Maul's base is the same from Son of Dathomir. At the time of cancellation, the model had already been built for Clone Wars, so they reused it here, hence why the interior resembles a setting from Clone Wars rather than Rebels. The droids with Maul are Mandalore "sign" droids, they broadcast messages like "Welcome!" on their faces.
Love the connection they made with Son of Dathomir, suprised the base is still going though considering how long it's been. It's so cool that they already modeled it out ready to do the story and got the chance to actually use it. So the droids Maul used are essentially useless 😂😂
Other reason it's good that Sabine is the one who went undercover at the Academy is because she's always wearing a helmet, not many in the Empire have seen her face. Even more difficult for the Empire since Sabine's a little older and showed up with her natural hair color.
The return of Maul and the appearance of Wedge Antilles, the only X-Wing survivor of Red Squadron from A New Hope, Snowspeeder Pilot from Empire Strikes back and Red Leader that attacked the reactor in Return of the Jedi. The Phoenix Cell is growing. Taking losses perhaps but getting Hammerhead Corvettes and a Base on Attolon last season plus some good pilots with Wedge and Hobbie this episode. The Phoenix Cell is becoming a more serious threat to the Empire.
Knowing who Wedge is now makes that episode so much more impactful, love how this actually makes a close connection between the Ghost Crew and Luke Skywalker himself. The Rebellion's growth is just making me more scared because of Thrawn 😂 He wants them all to get together so he can take it all out at once!
Back in Season 2, Kallus stated the Empire has eyes everywhere looking for the Rebel Sympathizers... Guess he's right, since Kallus and Pryce came to the Academy for the exact same reason the Rebels did.
Really surprised more people don't get who Maul saw in the Holocrons. I mean its so obvious. On Tatooine, and someone he clearly wants to find and really has a grudge against
Probably because we've seen the whole 6 seasons of Clone Wars at least once per year since it ended, same for Rebels, even more than that for CWS07, plus watching reactors, one after the other, be amazed by the better bits. Yeah, that's probably why we have "somewhat" unrealistic expectations, lol.
Yes!! His only issue would be getting a Jedi to open a Holocron but I figure he was around enough and maybe even got Dooku to do it before he fully turned.
thank you for your reaction and analysis Ben, I am really loving how much of the show you are getting. It is really a thrill now to hear what you think about each episode. 10/10 no notes. Love that Maul is so excited to find out that an old friend lives XD. It is not a "what" Maul found, it is "who".
Oh yeah, I remember Maul in the hologram in TCW, when he and Savage "made an example" out of the village with the innocent civilians, which made Obi-Wan go to him alone just to save anyone else he can. I'm assuming that was what you were thinking of? Maul is the master gaslighter. 😅 There's only 1 person I can think of that Maul wants: Kenobi. Wedge and Hobby are 2 pilots we see in the OT. They're pilots Luke knows I'm pretty sure. 34:47 "I can fly anything", reminded me of a Star Wars movie that wasn't reacted to yet so I won't say anything more about it. Kallus turning more good! 🥲
That was exactly it! Only this time he had the main characters in the Hologram and not random village people 😂 I figured it was Kenobi the second the episode ended 😂 Just glad he doesn’t know exactly where he is. Knowing who these pilots are now adds much more impact to that episode, plus I love that this creates a connection between the Ghost Crew and Luke. Kallus has given me so much more hope here, I only wish that this sticks and maybe he enjoys helping the Rebels or something.
ep 4 the way i've described bendu actions in rebels is like someone who sleeps in their room all day and doesn't really go out of their room to much and one day wakes up due to people pretty much breaking into his house and making some noise sort of comes to an agreement that they don't disturb him and he won't be a problem with them. the rebels are the ones who break in and via unbalance pretty much are making to much noise. and for the most part he's trying to help them find just the right amount of noise to make without disturbing him. a couple thing on maul. pretty much by season 7 maul was focused on one thing on two people and its revenge. he wanted to hurt palpatine and obi-wan. the fact that if he managed to kill anakin back in season 7 would have been doing both was likely seen as bonus to him as he was primary hoping that killing anakin would hurt palpatine and since obi-wan would likely follow him he could try and torture him again. remember now at this point all maul has is his thirst for revenge and all he knew for certain of those he wanted revenge is palpatine. for the most part the galaxy at large assumes most of the jedi who didn't outright die during order 66 eventually got caught or died. maul's sources for info are fairly small now as crimson dawn is no longer under his control. he's pretty much been on his own since he got to malcore. Hope here for maul could mean many things from something to bring him peace to at least get some sort of revenge against any of those who made his life hell which would mean palpatine, obi-wan, if the sabotage theory with QI'a is real her as well assuming he knows, hell even vader since he was pretty much thrown away and discarded when palatine found him with savage and told him he was replaced. ep 5 gives us two characters form the movies wedge first comes up in ANH as one of the last pilots to survive the death star run mostly because luke tells him to pull out from the trench run when vader shoots him almost taking him out with. he survives all through out the original trilogy. wedge was also Luke wingman durring the trench run and at the battle of hoth helping luke bring down the walkers. wedge was also part of the second death star attack with lando being one of the people to hug luke the party at the end of the movie. Hobbie also appeared in ESB he actually is the guy who luke is riding with when his snowspeeder gets shot and is out pretty much before the snowspeeder crashes due to one the walkers hitting the back of their snowspeeder thus hitting hobbie. wedge's back story to joining the rebels is slightly more different in legends as he joined the rebellion after the empire leveled his crushes settlement after returning back from a deliver job. his crush was already in a resistance movement thanks to her father. when the empire found out they either killed or kidnapped the members who were there. after he found some of the he was called lucky simple due to the timing of his delivery contract allowing him to live while most of the settlement suffered. this would affect him deeply especially when people would call him lucky.
I love Bendu but I feel like he can’t be trusted since he only wants to be left alone, Kanan and Ezra can go seek all the advice they want but one day Bendu could just as easily give a much darker solution to their problem just to be left alone. Maul’s character has become so tragic now, his life has completely fallen apart and his quest for power is basically over, all he has left is his thirst for revenge and I did realise who he was after at the end of this episode 😂 he just feels like such a shell of the character he once was, so it’ll be interesting to see where this all goes. I think Maul was just looking for any kind of Hope in general, it’s all he asked, and he got nothing, seems super depressing that there is nothing for him. Knowing who Wedge and Hobbe are now makes that episode much more impactful, love that it gives a great origin to two pilots from the OT but also love that this creates a connection between the Ghost Crew and Luke.
Great reactions! Maul episodes really are at another level, gotta love our sometime Sith, formely Darth. 14:32 Kanan did it first, Leia was not doing a Poppins, she was doing a Jarrus, lol
OMG! Mall looks for hope and finds a new hope aka Luke. Ezra looks for a way to destroy the sith and sees Luke's home planet. They actually DO want the same thing!
So Kanans blindness is something that is to force him into the role of Jedi master. He has no choice but to the very connected with the will of the force otherwise he’d die in combat immediately. Kanan becoming blind forced him to build a connection with the force he would’ve otherwise been unable to form. While not being the best combatant, he’s a great master to train Ezra to be what he needs to be for the rebellion. The connection he now has would land a Jedi of old a permanent seat on the council
Governor Pryce is quite competent and formidable as far as imperials go, but you'll come to find out (and especially if you read the Thrawn book series) that Grand Admiral Thrawn is leagues above Pryce and everyone else. You don't beat or outsmart Thrawn :)
Sabines mom Is the other unhelmeted mandalorian in the clone wars walking with bo katan After they put maul in that box... Not a spoiler because it's never really covered you'd have to rewatch Remember season 7 of the clone Wars Came out in 2020 .. 2 years after rebels finished.. They added things for continuity....even Kanan and his master Are in the clone wars season 7 For about 1 second .. During the announcer. For the final story arc. Talk For the final story arc... You can rewatch it it's not gonna spoil anything. It's just you would've caught it because rebels came before this season seven
The power of light and dark combined can really tell you everything, but a single person could never have this power. Maul was a powerful sith lord, but he couldn't even open a regular jedi holocron. Not even Darth Sidious could open it. On the other hand, even the most powerful jedi master couldn't open a sith holocron. Once you are deep into one side of the force, you can never have the other one at the same time again.
It's such a good countermeasure to have two opposite sides come together to gain this level of knowledge, it's an incredibly powerful thing but really well balanced, plus I love how this is yet another 'rule of two' thing, you have the Sith and their apprentice, a Jedi and a Padawan and now you need two to be able to do this insane thing.
Yoda didn't send our Jedi to Malachor to give them a chance to defeat the Sith. He sent them there to learn the cost of fighting being a first option, as Ezra stated in the Temple. I don't think he expected it to go so horribly wrong though. Kanan didn't move his Jedi holocron because there was no reason to. Nobody besides maybe Ezra has any business in his room and taking it, so it's understandable that he left it where he always keeps it. I still love Bendu. I'm surprised they found a voice actor that actually fits his design. "You don't sound relaxed." "Yeah, well I *look*relaxed." Is that a blind joke??? 🤣 ANOTHER SABINE EPISODE Too bad it's kinda the weakest. Sabine gets almost nothing out of this episode for her character. At least we got Wedge's debut to both this series and to Star Wars chronologically. Zeb saved Kallus' life on the ice moon above Geonosis. Glad to see he hasn't forgotten that. Also it's cute to see Ezra stressing over Sabine. #SabEzra
I just meant that technically it was a chance to defeat the Sith, which is what Ezra asked for, but that chance was like 0.0000000000000000001% 😂 True, just wish Maul had a harder time finding that thing. Bendu is great but you just can’t trust him since he’s in the middle, whatever you ask him could go either light or dark. This probably was a weak episode for Sabine but still like that she got it, it adds to her by giving her more responsibility, having a solo mission where she goes behind enemy lines and comes out on top. Knowing this was Wedge makes this so much more impactful and adds such a cool connection between the Ghost Crew and Luke. The Kallus thing was amazing, so glad he’s got this sense of honour and I hope it sticks with him.
Why imperials are not changing Protocoll if they get trained to break it: It is important for the Empire to have a better public appearence and the Senate is still active, so Palpatine wants the public to think that the Senate has power, even though he tells his military not to care about it. This is the slow change from still hiding the evil within the empire to making it more obvious. Every time, Palpatine gets more powerful, he can reveal more of the true nature of the empire, because he becomes more confident. He thinks that the gained strength is enough to hold up against the consequencial distrust from the public. It is this mistrust that now grows since the Empire started telling the soldiers lower down in the chain of command to act against protocoll. It causes more people to consider joining the Rebellion and finds itself in a tipping point once Alderaan is destroyed by the Death Star. Even though, there are cover ups, rumors spread and this is when the Rebellion starts growing faster and faster. There are more and more People like Wedge that want to leave the Empire because they feel betrayed when they are asked to do unmoral things.
This has to be incredibly inefficient for the military if the Cadets are learning this and then get told to ignore it 😂 Guess Palpatine doing all this had an unforeseen consequence as his actual military could fall apart. It’s another great point as to why Palpatine failed as his ego completely underestimated the power of the public.
SPOILER WARNING!!!
I am watching all Star Wars in Chronological order; I have seen the Original Trilogy but nothing else beyond the Kenobi so please be careful of spoilers in the comments.
Not a spoiler since you've seen OT-
WEDGE as seen in this episode not only survives all three movies, saves Luke a couple of times and fires the shit that destroys the second Death Star!
PLUS, the actor that played Wedge is the uncle of Ewan McGregor!
Wedge Antilles is one of the few rebel pilots who fought in the Battle of Yavin and survived.
He also became leader of Rogue Squadron and fought in the Battles of Hoth and Endor.
13:35 That's the same asteroid ring base from the Son of Dathomir comic. When Maul was rescued after S5.
Love this connection with the comic!

That's actually such a cool detail, nice to know that this 'ability' actually has backing rather than just command wanting to sabotage the TIEs.
Maul: "I wasn't aiming for your eyes, I was aiming for your neck."
😂😂 Maul really loved tormenting Kanan this entire episode!
The analogy I can use for Thrawn is like a tree. Other officers are hacking away small bits (aka small groups) but Thrawn wants to take the tree down in one swing (aka the ENTIRE rebellion).
This is what makes him so terrifying, he's actually willing to let them unite and is perfectly confident he'll be able to go up against that and win!
"Just follow the sound of my voice."
Such a cold burn.
😂 Maul just finds so much joy in torturing Kanan
Bendu is a Force being. A being that is in tune with the force itself. They are not good or evil. Much like the Father from Mortis.
The only pilot in the rebellion with two death star tally marks on his XWing.
Hobbie, Derek Klivian, was Rogue Four on Hoth
Knowing this makes that mission so much more impactful 😂 They didn't just save two random pilots but one that's close to Luke which also makes a really cool bridge between him and the Phoenix Squad.
Billaba: "Run Caleb, Run!"
-The Bad Batch Episode 1
Zeb's theme playing when Kallus helped Sabine leave.
You didn't catch that the one guy defecting from the Empire was Wedge.....Luke's friend from the original trilogy!
RED TWO!
This makes the episode so much more impactful, knowing his connection actually bridges the Ghost Crew to Luke which is so fun to think about!
@@benspiller :)
@@benspiller Just touching on the "once something is known, it cannot be un-known" topic again:
I have seen things that would horrify most people, in my life. Yes, they have affected me, but I've chosen to use those things to make me stronger rather than destroy me. Believe me, watching my first wife take her final breath as I was holding her hand very nearly destroyed me.
But I also learned that something I'd read in a Douglas Adams novel decades prior, was also very true: "Sometimes, the only way to save your sanity is to go insane for a while."
That may sound counter-intuitive, but it's actually not. You actually CAN preserve your sanity by going out of your mind for a while. Just don't do anything stupid or permanent in doing so.
Just a little life lesson for you to keep in the back of your mind, in case you ever need it.
Have a great day, my friend!
The new fighters, the Tie Interceptors.
Soon to be mass deployed in a few years, majority of the fleet at the Second Death Star were Tie Interceptors.
Zeb's ears when Maul is threatening everyone.
There are two things Ezra wants:
Maul’s path has always ended the same way:
-Defeat by Kenobi and the loss of his legs
-Defeat by Kenobi because he couldn't pull him to the dark side
-Defeat by Palpatine and the loss of his brother
-Defeat by Palpatine and the death of Talzin
-Defeat by Ahsoka and the loss of Mandalore
-Defeat by himself and abandoning the syndicate and Qira
-Defeat by Kanan to become Ezra's new master
No wonder he used the word hope.
(As Yoda and Kanan taught Ezra, destruction leads to self-destruction.)
When it comes to pilots, I believe the Imperial training system was the best, and only TIE pilots were truly competent in fighting the Rebellion.
Great comment, as always. The Maul part is impressive, most... you know, lol
The Bendu is such a centrist LMFAO
Wedge is a favorite of mine. The show just gets even better from here.
Other reason it's good that Sabine is the one who went undercover at the Academy is because she's always wearing a helmet, not many in the Empire have seen her face.
Even more difficult for the Empire since Sabine's a little older and showed up with her natural hair color.
Twin suns and a personal enemy.
But I can tell you this brother, our enemies are already intensifying
Literally realised who that enemy was the second the episode ended 😂 Can't wait to see what Maul ends up doing with that information!
Right now these are the videos i am most excited for on the entire platform
Ahh thanks! Glad you're enjoying these videos!
The fact everyone ducked when Kanan ignited his saber, they all knew what he was going to do to the droids without seeing it.
This is such a good detail, really shows off how close together all the intell.
22:49 Who creates the battles in Rebels? Breaking the blockade with unarmed transport without a covering fleet. What were they even expecting?
Really surprised more people don't get who Maul saw in the Holocrons. I mean its so obvious. On Tatooine, and someone he clearly wants to find and really has a grudge against
Yeah- Chewbacca.
@@jasoncaldwell5627lol
Probably because we've seen the whole 6 seasons of Clone Wars at least once per year since it ended, same for Rebels, even more than that for CWS07, plus watching reactors, one after the other, be amazed by the better bits. Yeah, that's probably why we have "somewhat" unrealistic expectations, lol.
I literally figured it out the second the episode ended 😂😂
8:16 Excellent idea!
Palpatine would have no difficulty making a captured Jedi open it for him
Glad you enjoyed! 😁 I literally figured out who Maul was talking about the second the episode ended 😂😂
@@benspiller you've watch clone wars.. you're bound to figure out who his all time bestie is.. lol
I hear the word vergence today and the first thing that comes to mind is a wookie with a metal detector.
Ugh
😂😂 That show left nothing but trauma!
Maul only has one thing on his mind, revenge.
Literally figured it out the second the episode ended 😂😂
Maul means hope for his revenge
Oh yeah, I remember Maul in the hologram in TCW, when he and Savage "made an example" out of the village with the innocent civilians, which made Obi-Wan go to him alone just to save anyone else he can. I'm assuming that was what you were thinking of?
Maul is the master gaslighter. 😅
There's only 1 person I can think of that Maul wants: Kenobi.
Only this time he had the main characters in the Hologram and not random village people 😂
I figured it was Kenobi the second the episode ended 😂 Just glad he doesn’t know exactly where he is.
Maul, of course has a Mandalorian starfighter again.
Complete with the Black and Red colors from when he ran Death Watch.
Maul may have lost his syndicate but he'll never lose his style!
WEDGE!
Greatest hero of the OT!
That space ring reminds me of a Halo ring from the Halo games lol.
Great reactions! Maul episodes really are at another level, gotta love our sometime Sith, formely Darth. 14:32 Kanan did it first, Leia was not doing a Poppins, she was doing a Jarrus, lol
Maul always brings the heat whenever he shows up and this was no exception. So cool to see how Kanan survived this!!
Don't know which is worse, Ezra's vision of the Grand Inquisitor rampaging on the Ghost, or Maul having free reign of the The Ghost.
Oh the reality is so much worse!
It's incredible how much his blindness has benefited him, to think he'd never get this powerful otherwise is just insane.
Wasn't Maul's fault Kanan got blinded, was Kanan's fault, he was bested by a better warrior. That's going to happen in a fight.
Maul does not know where Obi-Wan is. All he knows is he is on a planet with two suns.
Technically Bendu was wrong, you can unknow a secret....just takes a good bonk on the head and requires brain damage or memory loss lol.
Wedge would be enough. He went against both Death Stars and survived. Hobby was on Hoth with Luke.
How Ezra handles Maul with help from Kanan, shows how Anakin would have handled Palpatine if Qui-Gon was around.
Absolutley!! The parallels between the stories are so heartbreaking as we're literally seeing what could have happened to Anakin.
Maul's black T-Shirt tho.
Twin Suns, He lives , who could he be?
😂😂 Literally figured it out the second the episode ended!
"You don't sound relaxed."
"Yeah, well I *look*relaxed."
Is that a blind joke??? 🤣
ANOTHER SABINE EPISODE
Too bad it's kinda the weakest.
#SabEzra
I just meant that technically it was a chance to defeat the Sith, which is what Ezra asked for, but that chance was like 0.0000000000000000001% 😂
True, just wish Maul had a harder time finding that thing.
He’s still after obi wan during this episode
You should know who the "He lives!" is referring to. Think back to Clone Wars...Maul was obsessed with someone.
Literally figured it out the second the episode ended 😂😂
@@benspiller Oh really? You remembered Little Timmy? The 3rd grade bully who picked on Maul as a kid?

First
Why imperials are not changing Protocoll if they get trained to break it:
It is important for the Empire to have a better public appearence and the Senate is still active, so Palpatine wants the public to think that the Senate has power, even though he tells his military not to care about it.
