Good video. I have been drawing for a very long time, I’m glad you discussed the importance of recognizing negative space and included the whole “don’t draw what you think draw what you see” topic

Thanks. Yes, and it helps to turn the reference photo upside-down to disconnect the mind from inserting what we 'think' should be there. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hi Rix, no one has ever explained the importance and grid as good as you do in this video. Very informative video. Thank you. Jose from Australia

I found that very helpful. Doing shapes instead of drawing objects seems more realistic.

Hi, RixCanDoit. Most of the old forgers would turn a picture upside down. Please continue to inspire. Peace.

Hi people... for reasons no more than personal usage and not related to copy infringement, selling material, literary theft and plagiarism. I am sharing this just for your information. If you want to look for such pictures just google up homeless photography or portraits of homeless people and look up Lee Jeffries. His photos are phenomenal for your practice.

If you want to search the drawing, take a snaggit/screenshot and do a Google Image search.

Some psycho people say grid is cheating 😑

Guess we ought to remove a bunch of old paintings from museum walls from the classical painters that used methods such as this to start their paintings.

Why would it be cheating? Can anyone grid, yes. The grinding is usually the easy party although it doesn't always ensure a perfect outline of a picture. I used the grid plenty of times and had my proportions still be off. The true drawing come when a person creates the shadows and bring the shapes to life. You can't cheat that.
