    Some people have asked why Efren's Z-Shot isn't on this list. The answer is at the beginning of the video. I have several videos dedicated entirely to Efren in my "Most Famous Pool Shots and Matches of All Time" playlist:
    th-cam.com/play/PLH9d4KFY28XscHllvlP_rVC1jQjDXZmYD.html
    including "TOP 10 EFREN REYES FAMOUS SHOTS ... And How to Shoot Them:"
    th-cam.com/video/V1czUp9k2Uk/w-d-xo.html
    Efren's Z-shot is also #1 in my "Top 25 BEST POOL SHOTS of All Time" video:
    th-cam.com/video/iqTCHfJ5Dvs/w-d-xo.html
    I also did a recap of the entire match that included Efren's Z-shot in my "GREATEST POOL MATCH of All Time - Reyes vs. Strickland - with the Famous Z-Shot" video:
    th-cam.com/video/RhhrlcbnmXA/w-d-xo.html
    I also analyzed Efren's shot in details in my "Was the Z-SHOT Efren’s Best Option?" video:
    th-cam.com/video/zwDWlpSJpeY/w-d-xo.html
    Check them out.
    *CORRECTIONS* (sorry for my carelessness - I should have found and watched the source match videos for context first):
    - on shot 5, Corey was playing 1-pocket (not 10-ball), so it was a two-way shot where he was getting the 8 away from his opponent's pocket while also having a chance to pocket the 10.
    - on shot 10, Shane was playing 10-ball, which is a call-pocket game, so he intentionally tried to make the 10 (or leave the 3 bad if he didn't). If he had called the 3 instead, the 10 would spot and his opponent would shoot.

      Hi, Dr. Dave. Just for some clarity:
      On Corey's carom shot into the 10 (Shot #5), he was playing 1-pocket, so it was a 2-way shot where he was getting the 8 out of his opponent's pocket and also knew there'd be a chance he'd run into the 10 at the right angle.
      On Shane's jump-bank 2-rail carom into the 10 (Shot #10), he was playing 10-ball, which is a called-pocket game, so he intentionally tried to make the 10 there. Had he made the 3 (and not the 10), it would have been a miscall and his opponent would have then come to the table.

    Most honest review of this video is quite favorable. Where most would show that those shots were easily to duplicate, you show your failures and noted how many there were; not glossing over the original accomplishments. Second, you explained the physics of each shot to the best of your knowledge and what you believed to original intention was. I really enjoy this form of commentary and it took me back thirty years when I was out of high school and hanging in pool halls thinking I might be pretty good when the truth was, I was pretty good for my small group of friends. I think there are a lot of 3D shots that come up in games that people including commentators don't see...
    Efren often does 'mini jumps' into rails to create angles. He did this more earlier than today. Also top players will pocket simple shots and jump the ball into the object ball to allow the cue to jump over other balls.
    It would be nice to see some of the incredible snooker shots that players pull off. Might watch some of the 2018(?) Mark Williams World Snooker Championship shots... Considering the 12' table his 'no look' kick hit first try, a 16' shot to hit the ball is pretty amazing, the fact that the ball goes in is a 'pool gods' interaction. I'll give you 100 tries!

What he did, while very showy, was completely unnecessary and could have easily cost him game and match had he missed the one ball and/or kissed another ball enroute to attempted pose on the three ball. The shot of Shane on the 10ball was not a fluke. He used his jump cue to nominate the pocket.
    And it was 10ball so otherwise he would not win the rack if not called.
    You can see it in a longer video I saw it years ago.

      You are correct. FYI, I have the following in the video description and pinned comment:
      CORRECTIONS (sorry for my carelessness):
      - on shot 5, Corey was playing 1-pocket (not 10-ball), so it was a two-way shot where he was getting the 8 out of his opponent's pocket while also having a chance to pocket the 10.
      - on shot 10, Shane was playing 10-ball, which is a call-pocket game, so he intentionally tried to make the 10. If he had called the 3 instead, the 10 would spot and his opponent would shoot.

      @@DrDaveBilliards great 😊. It was just for people that would not know it... stopped playing some years ago with eye problems. But sometimes you make me want to restart 😀.

    the better you are, the more lucky you get, is the most frustrating, untrue sentence i have ever heard in my life. It's not luck, it's skill. Are you telling me that the athletes who practice every day for hours and getting better are winning by luck?

    • @DrDaveBilliards
      @DrDaveBilliards  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The whole point of the phrase is: the more you practice and the better you are, the more likely you are to get "lucky" on really tough low-percentage shots.

    Just a thought: I remember that in Byrne's training video, he mentioned that the spin on cue ball won't have effect on the object ball, but on the path bouncing from the cushion. However, in your last example with Efren's shot, it does have effect on the object ball. Just a little confused.

    • @DrDaveBilliards
      @DrDaveBilliards  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The main purpose for sidespin is to change the rebound angle off cushions, but it does have other uses, all of which are covered in the video and other resources here:

    Great video. I've loved that De Luna shot ever since he hit it. But for that shot, the more impressive thing to me is that he seemed to be closer to the rail than you demonstrated. He was jacked up on the rail it looks like, which made the shot and accuracy WAY harder.

    • @DrDaveBilliards
      @DrDaveBilliards  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I tried to match the ball positions as closely as I could by looking at all views available in the original videos, but you might be right. And I agree ... it is much harder if the CB is closer to the cushion.

    Chris Melling said that first shot wasn’t intended to go it, but he was taught to always call a pocket just in case. It was intended to simply be a safety.

    Shot 5 I think is a one pocket game.. He was not showing off. I think Corey is trying to remove the 8 from Alex's pocket while trying to pocket the 10 in his pocket (the opposite pocket). 😁

    number 7 the cue ball is almost touching the rail, in your demonstration the cue ball is far away from the rail

      I did my best to position the balls accurately based on all the camera views available in the original videos, but it is certainly possible they were off a little (but not a lot).
