Fun fact: in the opening cutscene of the game they have a remix of Pachelbel's Canon in D, and as someone who's studied the violin and still plays sometimes I appreciate how well they animated Kafka's hands in the cutscene. The left wrist being in the correct position, her putting different fingers on the imaginary strings
And the last note that plays in the cutscene is D5, and the finger that's pressing on the string is the ring finger, which, when pressing on the A string in the first position, would make the very note. I rewatched the cutscene after this trailer and practically squealed when I noticed it

Honkai Impact has a Stigmata set for Kafka who IS based off of Franz Kafka considering the set is called "The Loner of Prague". Since Star Rail is like a alternate version of the Impact universe I wouldn't doubt its the same.
You ought to look at her Eidolons, the names all deal with music. E1: Da Capo, E2: Fortississimo, E3: Capriccio, E4: Recitativo, E5: Doloroso, and E6: Leggiero

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet is that this trailer didn't just use Winter but also pieces of Summer. like at 7:02 comes from the middle section of the 3rd movement of Summer.
There was also a little part shortly after that of like an arpeggio in the key of F major that sounded like it came from Autumn, but that might just be how they decided to transition to the next part.
Edit: actually there's a part in the 3rd mvt of Autumn with that same arpeggio, so that might actually be intentional.

This is my favorite part about HoYoverse! Through their games, we can hear things like this and go, oh yeah, that’s winter by vivaldi! It also introduces people to so many new topics, for example, like how people went to listen to winter because of Kafka, but also because of things like people checking out Chinese Opera because of Yunjin, or people looking at Persian Dance because of Nilou. I love how I’m able to learn new things about the world I live in through these fictional characters on a screen

I think, in my opinion, HoYoVerse in general and HoYo-Mix specifically is bringing classical genre and traditional music to another level. May it be soundtracks with traditional instruments, or classic pieces but more modern, HoYo-Mix is just dropping bangers left and right, and that more or less helps various cultures and classical music to be appreciated more by modern audiences.
I think it's also pretty safe to say they can be considered as one of the leading vanguards in this era of revolutionizing classical music. Like . . . look at how they tweak with the Vivaldi and put it into Kafka's trailer, it's a blast! Still my opinion though, so I don't know what you guys think about this.

Kafka's 4* cone is called Fermata
She plays the violin and compares it to firing a gun, as both require precision, it's in one of her voicelines I think
And of course, the game literally opens with Pachelbel's Canon in D Major, featuring Mommy Kafka playing the air violin like the boss she is, it's one of her idle animations
Someone else already mentioned her eidolons
The classical music references are intentional and integral to her character :)

I love how Kafka's always accompanied by classical music motifs. Her segment in the version preview trailer references Beethoven's 5th Symphony, her own trailer references both Vivaldi's Winter *and* Summer, her 4* light cone is named "Fermata", and of course there's her character banner name, Nessun Dorma. Her first appearance was also her playing air violin to Canon in D. As a violinist, I can't wait to pull for her today!

  • @bohlam6c
    @bohlam6c ปีที่แล้ว +14

i love how the layers Mihoyo puts into this trailer.
During the reveal of her bounty, the violin is very sharp and foward sounding. Which symbolizes how Kafka is taking the center stage, but it also symbolizes her manipulative/leading tendencies... all the while we see her literally walking through a middle of mayhem just like how the violin is very much in the center, cutting through the other instruments.
and even after the mixed down the lead violin to be more balanced. The violin is still present, mirroring her presence in the game.

One things I love from Vivaldi Winter is that its always given me a strong sense of nostalgia. Growing up on the SNES with A link to the Past, the lost woods theme in that game has a similar tone and feel to me and ive always wondered if it was inspired by Vivaldi. Every time I hear it when I least expect it brings a smile to my face, even in John Wick lol.

I love that Marco isn't a music snob or a classical snob where he shuns reinterpretations of Classical music. HSR and other games / media are so important when they remix music like this, because they keep it alive and add a freshness to the music. It's the same thing when someone takes a pop or rap or rock song and translates it into piano creating a paraphrase, as Marco stated earlier. Frank Tedesco is a fantastic example of this: taking such a rich depth as piano and classical can produce, and re-tooling these modern tunes for it. It's a beautiful back and forth between old and new that ties fans of both genres together: showing new generations the beauty of the old stuff, and the old timers the innovation of the new stuff.
Classical and modern music don't have to be at war with one another in a sort of "kids these days". Same thing with using old songs like the rat pack and big band and such in remixes: it keeps the music alive. Ironic, that so many that would think that classical music as being "boring" are ignorant to the fact that techniques and principles used in classical music form the foundation for rock and metal.

I would disagree with the meanings that marco has pointed at 4:21
Everything about Kafka trailer is there to show that she is in control. For visual we have images from psychology and spider webs. Classical music is there to show that she is conductor of the battle, great example is at 6:27 where we are shown that she is so confident in her control of the battle tempo, that she moves JUST as much as needed for her vision to come to life.

HSR Kafka is almost certainly a reference to Franz Kafka, considering she originated as a stigmata set in HI3rd, in which there are countless references to historical figures from all sorts of disciplines (Einstein, Tesla, Beethoven, Dirac, Schrodinger, Allan Poe, Darwin, and countless others).
I absolutely love how this trailer came out, and I hope they find more ways to incorporate classical music into her lore (maybe a trip to her home world, where classical music is an important part of their society???)

As a metalhead and lover of neoclassical shred such as Yngwie Malmsteem and Vinnie Moore, the Kafka trailer music just made my happy juices flow like mad. Classical works play such a huge part in that genre of guitar music. Transposing this song is gonna be such a pain but man am i excited to give it a shot.
Also you are 100% correct about Kafka's being based on the writer. In hi3 they made a lot of historical figures and such into waifus. Kafka being one of them.

I've always found it fascinating whenever I see classical influence in any kind of modern music because when you really dissect it piece by piece you can figure out exactly which components were there from the start thematically and which have been modified with modern influence, helps that I also think that fusion sounds incredible when done well

If you didnt know, in honkai impact 3 theres alot of scientists and notable historical people used as their stigmata names, and kafka was also one of them. So yeah youre right about "kafka" as a historical person in this context as well.

3:07 This was used in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation for its iconic opera scene with Rebecca Ferguson in the yellow dress. Had no idea they named the HSR banner after that song. What a fascinating choice.

In the game, Kafka actually plays the violin as well, which they showed with her playing an air violin in the elevator at the beginning of the game and then later confirmed that she actually knows how to play in the music event when Penacony launched and Robin was being heavily advertised. I definitely that was part of the music choice for this trailer.

Not only Mihoyo, but a very renowned and famous chinese classical concert pianist called Lang Lang have brought classical music to a wider audience worldwide aswell. It proves that music education, which alot of asian or chinese put high in regard for their children, really pays off in practical life and even the entertainment industry and enriches the enjoyment of life in general very much!

I really liked Kafka's trailer. As someone who never *had* a "passion" for music in general (specially for classic music), I've come to love many of the classic songs you've covered, the analasys you make combined with the experience in the field you provide have shown me that music isn't about instruments making sounds in a harmonic way, is about portraying a feeling or even a tale in a way is not possible with words, truly fascinating.

1:37 There's also another version of Kafka in Honkai Impact that i believe is the reference of Franz Kafka. And, Franz Kafka is not the only real life person who used as a reference. A lot of painter, scientist, philosopher, musician, prominent military and political people, writer. Like Edgar Allan Poe, Amedeo Avogrado, Monet, Beethoven, Caravaggio, Carlo Collodi, Gustav Klimt, and many more.
