It looks a nice and memorable trip. Thanks for sharing. To Jacob and his sister: hopefully, you now have more interests in learning your family's language and an increased interest in your family's town. In general, it is sad that some of our own kids don't speak Spanish, but other kids in the USA (anglo, asian, south asian etc..) do learn Spanish in school and develop an interests for culture and travels in Mexico.

Hello Isela! I do tend to learn Spanish at some point. I'm currently working on my Japanese language. I do agree that It is sad that some of us don't speak the language our parents grew up with, but I unfortunately didn't see my father (from Mexico) as often growing up and grew up in a very American house. I also think its a motivation thing to learn, as I have more interest in the Japanese culture than the Mexican culture. This was my first memorable experience in Mexico and I do plan on learning more of the language as soon as I can so that the next time I visit I can communicate more frequently with my family in Mexico. Thank you for your comment!

Hello Jacob, my name is Sergio Camacho, my family is from a place called San Martin Hidalgo and Tepehuaje, about 20 minutes from Cocula. I go to Mexico every Summer, my favorite hang out is Cocula for the Birria and a Beautiful Plaza, had a girlfriend there many years ago.
I want to tell you that we are likely related, we are the same Camacho's, and my grandfather had his roots in Cocula.
I had a DNA test and have connected with others in Cocula. My grandfathers name was Timoteo Camacho. Don't be a stranger to Mexico, we have strong roots, our Camacho's are from Spain, just so you know. Also, Cocula is home of the Mariachi and Birria, both world famous now. Cheers!

Very nice to meet you Sergio! I'm sure we are related in some way. The plaza in Cocula is also my favorite place, especially on top of the church, my Uncle used to work there and gave me a tour of the place. Its so cool to see many roots that the Camacho's have. Thank you for your comment!

I unfortunately didn't grow up around my Mexican side of my family, nor did I have the commitment back then to learn it. I'm primarily focused on the Japanese language but would love to come back to Spanish so I can communicate more with my family in Mexico.
