- I finished recording this video at 4pm yesterday and then fell asleep for 4 hours, woke up delirious to almost pitch blackness, realized I forgot to record the sections of me showing my hair as examples, so I drew everything instead to get this already-late-video out lol.
Let me know if I should do a men's hair version or something next :3

as someone who is going to be performing in a 1920s-30s theatre production soon, this was SO IMMENSELY helpful. we won't be wearing headbands because it's mainly a work/home/court environment.
my hair is ridiculously long because I prefer it that way, so a faux bob is necessary. thanks so much for making this video!!
WOW! Cherry you hit the nail on the head with your tutorial. I am a hair designer/ and stylist and work in Theatre and Film in Ontario Canada and been styling hair for 60 years and sort after for my experience working with vintage looks and working with all manner of false hair human and synthetic wigs. I teach salon hairstylist who want to transition to Theatre and Film the art of styling period hair, the fundamentals of working with wigs and creating undos. Hair setting products is a must to set the hair so it will hold the curl or wave pattern. I am a great fan of White Sand liquid spray for setting dry hair, and mousse products. There is a system for easy setting. Sectioning and clipping hair out of the way and starting at the nape below the occipital and working your way to the front. I have tricks to reduce the bulk of long hair from The occipital for shorter hairstyles.Thank you so much for your attention to detail. Keep up the good work. Bravo!👏👏👏🙏🏻❤️🇨🇦

Your career sounds amazing. Have you used lottabody and if so what are your thoughts. I have long hair and I’m confused about how to style the back. I was going to use a invisible hair net. Lol. I use snoods for 40s looks.

The 1920s had some nice hairstyles.
If you were living back in 1927 and walked on the street, you could see at least 3 girls with a dutch bob hairstyle in every corner.
But in the early 1930s, they would become tricky to find, the flappers themselves became rare to see.
I had a decent hunch about 1920's hair from old illustrations and photos, but this video helped me to fill in the holes in my knowledge. Thank you for this video!

Arrived here trying to find a way to mimmic Olive Oyl hairstyle for a cosplay. Giving the fact that Olive Oyl is a flapper, and her hairstyle is SO ICONIC, but also nonesense, since she wears it like her mother Nana Oyl (banana oil = nonesense). I'm going to put this advices into action xD

My friend invited me (her much older friend) to her prom which is 1920's theme. I decided to be as authentic as possible in one day. 😂 Hugely helpful! ❤️

I would go so far as to put the volume at the occipital bone rather than below it (early 1920s could be worn much higher and it travelled down by the 30s it was just under the occipital bone)
i have natural curly hair so i have a lot of trouble figuring out how to, organize them lol
I have curly hair too, and when I had to do a 30/40s look for theatre I used pillow rollers to curl my entire head anyways because my curls aren’t completely uniform top to bottom. It worked really well!

I have straight hair I can manage a descent psyche knot with padding (would be better with proper wet set, but I still have to perfect it) but I would definitely not advise against doing headphone buns on you natural texture (unless it's natural black hair of any sort, it's around the time black women had access and interest in recreating textures of white people so I don't know how common and accepted it was for a black woman to wear natural hair within her community)
So, even if it would help (and if your hair doesn't work for any period, I'd advise to curl your hair the way they did back then) it's not as vital as in later and some earlier decades
I would even say get the right type of curl in your hair because we tend to go much looser than they did (even a sleek sculptural do may require the smallest foam rollers available on the market today) try to see what they did to they hair
There are some people (such as me) where curls don't hold. At the same time, though, I've only used the heated curling irons. The curls never stayed in my hair for more than 10 minutes. Do you have any tips for such hair?
Hmm it's hard to say, because everyone's hair is different. Do you use a hair styling gel or spray? That's the main thing that helps my curls stick, so you might have to experiment with different types to see how well they help your hair hold a curl.
I don't have much experience with curling irons sadly! But I know my hair holds pin curls pretty well, especially if I use hair gel when I pin them up for the night :) So you'll probably have to go through and try out different curling methods to see how they work for you! 💖

The longer the wet set in your hair, the better, sometimes I do it in the wet set in the afternoon and take it of the next day in the evening - this curls hold really well (If you want to go outside but have rollers in your hair, wear a headscarf over your wet set like this: th-cam.com/video/8Bs6aaeoSko/w-d-xo.html ). My hair does not hold curls I do with the curling iron, but wet set curls will last for 1-2 days. If you have thick hair (like me), you have to use a lot of pins or sponge rollers and don't have wet hair, just a little bit damp, because thick hair will not dry fast enough. And use A LOT of hairspray. That is, what I can recomment. And for the next day, when I want to go to bed, I use just 4-6 foam rollers with a wire inside and roll big sections of hair up. The next day I will have softer waves. :)
With heat, my curls are gone in hours.
Try setting your hair through the night; it really makes a difference. That way, my curls last for 2 days.
My hair doesn't like heated curls unless they've been pinned up for 20 minutes to cool, but nothing works like a wet/damp set that lasts for quite a few days.
Make sure your hair is not fully wet, roll onto foam rollers, cover with silk/satin scarf and sleep on them; Re- roll dry curls (much easier when they're already curled) every night and you're good until your next wash.

I don't think you would need to curl it! The reason I curl my hair is to get that texture and give the hairpins something to grip when I want to pin up short :) That being said though, my hair is not naturally curly, so I don't have any experience on how to work with it, or how your hair would look if you did decide to try pin curls.
But it seems like all you would need to do to achieve the 20s look is the finger/marcel waves, and then pin up the rest of your hair to the correct length! 💞
So... As a girl with curls I'm screwed.😂

German Berlin created the true fashion of the severe straight line of cut in short hair.
This continued as high fashion until a refeminisation of Woman during war times especially WWII.
Fishnet stockings are a no no
True. I've never saw any pictures of women in the 1920s wearing fishnet stockings!
@@melissacooper8724 they did exist! Dancers wore them. They were invented specifically because dancers were prohibited from having their legs bare, so fishnet was a way to technically have their legs covered while still showing off skin, in the 1910s iirc
