I've not checked all the comments but if you don't already know, theskull and crossed bones on that grave (and there were possibly others) denote he was a poor Knight of Christ and the Temple of Solomon. In short a Knight Templar. There are quite a few graveyards in Scotland with Templar graves in them, particularly in the Edinburgh area, East end of Ferry Rd at Leith and Roslyn of course. But from memory I think they had a Commandery at Elgin too. The motif also appeared on their merchant ships and I believe flags on their fortified buildings. If you're in the habit of mooching through gravestones have a look-see if you can spot any more. The hidden carving under the shield could have been a lot worse. I was expecting from your build up and the positioning if it was still attached to the fabric of the ruined Cathedral that it might have been a Sheila-na-gig. And if you don't know what that is , I'll just say " nobody wants to see that at teatime on a Friday but I'm sure you can Gooit if you have too. Let me just say it's the equivalent of what you did find but equal to "the divine feminine" of Christian symbolism. 'Nuff said I think. By the way, I think Air Fryers are the best for Fish and Chips, I had Scampi and Chips out of mine this evening😋
@@nigeldavey1043 The date on that grave was 17th century which I would have thought would be too late for the Knight Templars which I always understood to be medieval, but perhaps they spanned many generations. There are a lot very old graves with skull and crossbones that are not KT's, and we have a good look around Banff medieval graveyard in a couple of videos time, lots of skull and crossbones, but I don't think any are KT's, or indeed if any of them made it this far north.
