In the show they can either send you into the past and let you "live to death" or they just flat out kill you. The mannequins having the same power is a nod to the Doctor Who series.

Hey I have an Easter egg or glitch in Nuketown that you missed. Once you shoot off all the arms of the manicans if you go the house with the table in the upstairs common room you can stand on it and stand close to the wall leading outside and the manicans will go out on the balcony and try to attack you through the wall. They will just pile up there.
In the orange house. Go Up stairs and into the bedroom. Jump on the table to the right and you will see a magazine that says "Robots will take over the world." Its creepy
