Can I fix a Bachmann 4-8-4 New York Central locomotive | split chassis

In this video I attempt to fix an old Bachmann split chassis 4-8-4 locomotive. It has multiple problems including, deteriorating side rods, pick up issues, motor troubles, and parts broken off, but the real question is, will I be able to repair this troubled locomotive?

My uncle had one of those, motor burned out. I think those with the cheap pancake motors are from the 1980s. You might be able to swap in another bachmann motor they look interchangeable. I also have an engine like that now i am curious what motor its got. It cant pull much

Hey @GrayModels, I'm working on a Bachmann 4-8-4 HO #6008 NYC and I wanted to know what part you used to replace the piston and how you took out the rivets as I would like to restore mine to its former glory. Any tips or tricks would be amazing. Let me know...

I bought them from bachmanns website they were for a different 4-8-4 I believe they also had e clips on the piston rods and not rivets
