- I've been searching for something that resembles a classic Explorer for a couple of years. Little did I know that a case queen lurked literally just around the corner. It has a new home now - here. And it rocks hard. I'm not Explorer expert (not even mildly educated) but I think this one will be staying.
Great playing and demo in this video! I've got a 1999 version of this guitar and agree with everything you say about it. It's built well, stays in tune nicely, and sounds fantastic. Great guitars!
Same with me 1999 in cherry color
Will own a 2011 Explorer '76 Reissue with the exact same specs and finish to yours by next week, and I have to say that this is the very best I've heard that 500T/496R set sound so far! Got them in my Flying V and they just lack harmonic content and character IMO, although I dig the 496R way more than the 500T..this video gives me a lot more hope knowing they will be in my upcoming Explorer, brilliant playing as well matey!
what a beautiful guitar and fantastic playing!
I love those guitars . Damn nice one that you have!! Awesome playing as usual
Fabulous tone Brett, that thing screams rock sure enough. Looking for one of that age myself.
"show your love," takes me way back; you ROCK the VH!
Gorgeous explorer. Love the classic finish! I'm infatuated with explorers, but they don't really scream "over 50 dad axe", so I talk myself out of one. Maybe if I had your chops I would think differently! The ones I've briefly tried in stores have been really comfortable. Maybe I should just get pass the image and looks and think only comfort and function! As always, superb playing!
Beautiful guitar sir. Love my 2006 30 year with the gold hardware.
Wow that fretboard is beautiful! I have an '06 30 year anniversary model and the fretboard is a really dark rosewood. No streaking at all though(almost ebony in appearance).
Makes me miss my Hamer Standard.
Cabby Cabby I bet!
Congratulations! I love mine but it was pieced together I am still in search for one like yours
Lovely playing as usual, Brett. That intro sounds just a touch like the Allman Brothers stuff.... :)
Rippin tone.. nice score Brett! I think this one fits you very well!
Happy holidays to you and your family mate!
Sounds great. Happy Holidays!
Awesome, Burgs! Can't wait seeing you demoing pedal with this beauty
Congrats on the Gibson it's cool getting a guitar we have wanted for sometime.
That is the face of happiness 😃
They rock hard. And I love the elbow rest!
Nice one Brett! Absolutely love those!
The 500t is usually a bridge pickup. EVH used PAF style pickups.
great review as usual. Love the top end on those pickups, just right to cut.
was never a big fan of the explorer, however, you make it sound great, very strong licks.
Your improve and tone is great!...nice bends... hearing some Steely Dan or Pablo Cruise influence there!?!
Thanks, Doug! Just years of 6-hour-day practising in the 70's to my favourites, I guess. Thanks for the kind words. :)
T pickups are in the bridge position (treble in Gibson speak), while R pickups are in the neck (rhythm in Gibson speak). Beautiful axe, though!
Congrats on a great sounding axe looks very cool,
Love them... I always dug the look but assumed they were one trick ponies... once I got I was surprised how versatile they are...
Nice playing. That’s a nice Explorer there. I’ve played a few in my time and I’m over 50 too. I notice the new standard Explorers have the slim taper 60’s necks so they sound a bit different. The custom shop 58’s have a big neck but the headstock angle is a bit different to yours so I think there is more string tension, I tried one of those but couldn’t quite get on with it.
Have you tried one of the 58 reissues to compare?
The neck is 496r and the bridge 500t.
Gibson's rock!
Amazing guitar ... pickup is stock? They sound great !
I tried one once...found it so comfortable to play. Have to ask....how is the tuning stability on explorers ?
And holy shoot you're right.. you turn around and guitars (and ppls) born in 2000 are 18 all the sudden!... nevermind where's eddy van Halen coming from?!? Never heard a better sounding eddy lick... I think you've really improved even since 5-7 years.. you can really hear all that hard work pay off!
What are you talking about, bro? You are only supposed to get Explorers and Vs AFTER you turn 50!
Good thing. I just picked up my first Gibson electric guitar. a 2016 '76 reissue. I love it! Oh, I am almost 56.
I got mine this year...when I turned 51.
I know this is an old thread but I’m 51 and am buying a 2000 Explorer tomorrow. My first!
Addition to prev post. I bought mine in 2002 been hanging on my wall since pretty much. Played prob less than 10 times. So not sure what its worth, have case and all papers. Was 1700.00 price tag new and I paid 1200.00 off ebay back then.
Mine is not quite that old but close. Do not leave this in the white fluffy Gibson case. It will off gas & turn the innards of the case yellow. Sadly I have proof in the other room!
I got one too burgs but I swaped out the pickups n pots..
That's what i call a proper guitar! :) 500T is in the Bridge ..
Damn right!
Hi Brett. Can you shed any light on the estimated market value of a mid 2000's explorer exactly like this in today's market?
It seems to fluctuate anywhere between 1.8K - 2.5K, Gavin. I think this one was around 2.2K when I bought it.
@@BrettKingman is that USD or AUD thanks?
@@gavinfeeney1308 AUD.
Excellent sound and play.Brett, how did you use the amp or overdrive video?
The Epiphone Explorers are pretty decent, you might want to swap the pickups though bc the stock alnicos are kinda muddy (though some do like that sound)
Ceramics for me.
great guitar; great playin' mate! Put another shrimp on the barbie! hee-hee-hee-hee-hee-hee
ciao greg you are the best
Hey is that custom shop? or Gibson USA?
Very cool!!!
Thanks, Timothy. Happy Christmas!
There's one 3rd of Skynrd right there
Satan, I mean Santa, good to you this year.
nice..
nice tight but not compressed sound1
Dam that's sexy Burgs....err I mean the guitar that is ;)
Heheh. Well, I just KNOW it couldn't be anything else!
Nice playing. I bought the exact same guitar, I can't play worth a crap. Mine is probably in the same condition. Still has plastic on it. Whats it worth? Ill never be able to play. I guess I dont have the gift. Or lazy lol. Probably both. I should sell it to someone who would appreciate it.
I own a 2000 but the serial number is scary 006660@@@
