- Lake Atitlan is considered one of the most beautiful lakes all around the world. In its surroundings, there are maya people who still preserves their original crafts. Please keep reading the description for much more info and useful links.
-How to get to Lake Atitlan:
* You can get from Guatemala, Antigua, Quetzaltenango etc, to Panajachel and there you take a boat that takes you to any of the small towns that are around the lake.
If you come from another country, you can arrive by plane to Guatemala and from there take the chicken bus which is the cheapest transport to Panajachel or if you leave from Antigua take a bus to Chimaltenango in one hour and it will cost you approximately 5 quetzales, once There, take another bus to Solola that costs 20 quetzales and the journey takes 2 hours. Finally, take another bus to Panajachel at a cost of 5 quetzales. If you want something faster and more comfortable is the option to take a shuttle that has a cost of $ 12 dollars, there are other operators that charge $ 20- $ 25 per person, per trip. They pick you up at your hotel and return you in the afternoon.

-What to do in Lake Atitlan
Take a boat to any of the small towns around the lake such as:
San Pedro la Laguna, San Marcos la Laguna, Santa Cruz la Laguna, Santa Catarina Palopo and San Antonio Palopo and Santiago Atitlan.
There is also San Juan la Laguna, which was the one we visited, we enjoyed the Guatemalan coffee produced right there and also visited a cooperative of Mayan women weavers who preserve the art of the waist loom. They showed us the whole process of preparing the cotton, how they dye it and prepare it to start weaving. It is very interesting to see the dedication and patience of these women.
In your store there are many things like clothes for women, men and children, souvenirs, accessories so you will not know what to buy.
It is a town that is known walking, if you get tired you can make use of the tuc-tuc which is the local taxi. There are local artisans and painters who have their galleries open to the public and their paintings for sale.
-Where to eat at Lake Atitlan
At the Hotel Atitlan you eat delicious and you also have a great view from this place. The food offered is regional and international, with excellent quality food and very fresh.
It is a large, quiet place and from your table you can see the volcanoes that surround this majestic lake. Here we ate a cream of mushrooms and as a strong dish a very tasty beef tenderloin accompanied by vegetables and to close with a gold pin, a terrific chocolate cake.
