I can agree, having lived among artists for many years, some artists are really annoying and pretentious people, but that's happened for the whole history. Reducing art to just a realistic tool to paint what titillates these old fu**s is really sad. What about courage of Matisse, breaking conventions like a Dada, being weird like Dalì. I've been incredibly fed up as of recent by other people (a lot of them not even artists themselves) take it upon themselves to decide what is superior and inferior in art or even what even can be considered art at all just based on the aesthetic value, devaluing modern art. Art cannot and should never be boiled down to "if it's not as pretty as west European art from 300 years ago, it's garbage." Disappointing to see an professional artist spreading that poisonous mindset to young, learning artists. Definitely will be subscribing 👍
AW THANKS this means a lot!! i’m so glad you liked the video! You got some good thoughts about the topic there too, i couldn’t agree more. Art is a very personal experience so when people make sweeping generalizations about it it’s almost always with some kind of at best ignorant and at worst actively malicious reason
I have the same attitude as you when it comes to the plethora of art on the Internet/social media--the more the merrier. But even within my art major some of the professors had this silly idea in their heads about "high art/fine art" v.s. the "fodder art for the masses" that's posted on insta rather than strung up in some prestigious museum like it's somehow "less than". The gatekeepers of institutional art spaces are severely limiting themselves when it comes to disregarding digital work in the social media sphere: in my opinion, social media artists are the Banksy(s) of the digital space but a lot of academic types don't seem to think so. In fact, digital art was not mentioned once by my professors and remained unspoken like some vulgar word. And yeah, Florczak has a horribly elitist opinion of art and what it should be--and, as you pointed out, his argument is full of obvious holes. Has he studied any art history at all?? I'd think not judging by his deeply flawed reasoning. I thought I'd have an aneurism. Gatekeepers in institutional spaces are bad, but they at least have a better understanding than this.. sheesh.
yeah i totally agree!! I think there is a lot more i guess “casual” art on social media?? like a lot of the pieces are less finished or done quickly or whatever, but it’s all still part of the process of making art! And his personal art really is pretty gorgeous! It’s sad that he can’t let this weird elitism crap go and make and/or enjoy even more beautiful art!
that’s a good question!! I think it’s tough, but i’d always look for the creator’s intention. If they’re primarily creating to sell something (Thomas Kinkade, Mr Beast, NFTs, stuff like that) i’d be wary, but if they’re primarily trying to make something based on human expression i’d lean towards experiencing that expression! that’s an over-simplification haha but hopefully that makes sense?
heck yeah thank you so much!! i haven’t made a video since this one (that’s gonna change soon i got a few i’m workin on) so you’re not really late at all you’re perfectly up to date hahaha
Art is created as a reaction to what’s going on around them! Look at Dada! Those artists thought the whole planet had gone to hell, so their art shouldn’t make sense either. I know I’m preaching to The Converted here, but this Prager U video never fails to annoy me! Even Sister Wendy in her analysis of Art even stated: “Art changes, but it doesn’t get better.” Art changes as ideas in the certain society changes! I agree that there are some wonderful pieces of Modern Art and some I don’t quite agree with. I did get the Pollock test, mostly due to the criterion you pointed out that I had forgotten about from my Art History classes. I feel you on creating Art but not making much money from it. I do two webcomics that I don’t make hardly any money from it. I still do it because it’s a passion of mine. The comics at the end are great! Keep up the great work!
Praeger "University" shares a hatred of modern art with notorious failed paintet Hitler, who destroyed Bauhaus because they invented a strange looking chair.
I think you missed the point of the PragerU video. That there is a traditional art culture with technique and standards. and a counter culture. The counter culture has now become the mainstream stream culture. This is also true for architecture. The Baroque to Brutalism.
Subscriber 210 here - sorry I'm so late to the party! 🤣 Great video. This guy's speeches remind me not only of the Third Reich's approach to art -- as a number of commenters have mentioned -- but also of the court musicians in AMADEUS who keep urging Mozart to make his operas about "elevated" subjects, when he just wants his art to be about real people. "Come on now, be honest! Which one of you wouldn't rather listen to his hairdresser than Hercules? Or Horatio, or Orpheus... people so lofty they sound as if they shit marble!"
hahaha no worries being late, c’mon in!! That’s another great comparison! and a great quote!! There’s a weird attitude among fascists and other similarly mean losers that art that isn’t about the biggest most religious mind-blowing experience ever isn’t worth anything, which is so dumb and sad! Like i love Handel’s Messiah like crazy, it’s beautiful! But i also like the Minecraft soundtrack! They’re missing out on so so much and forcing other people to miss out on it too, it’s very sad and evil imo
Robert Floczak? This is the artist PragerU called upon to talk about the state of modern art? For those who may be unfamiliar, this guy's work is extremely derivative, heavily dependent on tracing and photoshop (nothing wrong with that UNLESS you're pretending to be a tireless proponent of classical techniques), and pretty mediocre.
@EyeLean5280 For the record: I use only traditional mediums (oil, watercolor, pencil) and have never used digital tools like Photoshop. I also do not trace.
I think that, to fascists, the point of art is decoration, not expression. Expression is dangerous because it challenges people to think and feel. Fascists don't like it because it makes them feel all icky about their worldview.
I love when these capitalists like those at PragerU complain about the art industry and people not producing art that they like, as if capitalism hasn't prevented millions of artists from creating.
@@mavisroyce My point is, there's not enough good art to forgive the seriously bad stuff. The era we are living in is not producing enough of the great music or architecture or art that the era's proceeding it did. Or cinema or fashion, literature or even technology. My kids even notice it. There are some outstanding individuals in all of the arts, but so few in comparison. Today's society is far to uptight and controlling. I think social media has been an enormously negative influence on the whole.
i mean this so seriously: if you aren’t seeing enough good art, it is 100% because you are Not Looking. it is there, i see hundreds of wonderful pieces of artwork every single day
also, the “era we are living in” isn’t producing art at all, the people in it are. i would encourage you to stop thinking of art as one giant unit like that! instead think of it the way it is, as a bunch of individuals trying to make art that communicates something to you

Keep up the great work!
thank you for the comment!! i totally agree! i like that quote you used that’s nice

Praeger "University" shares a hatred of modern art with notorious failed paintet Hitler, who destroyed Bauhaus because they invented a strange looking chair.
something something The Emperor's New Clothes
i don’t remember what that means but i’ll pretend to be smart and agree with you and hope that that’s the correct reaponse
@@mavisroyce this is gold ^_^
Memes > Modern Art > PragerU
lmao so true
I think you missed the point of the PragerU video.
That there is a traditional art culture with technique and standards. and a counter culture. The counter culture has now become the mainstream stream culture.
This is also true for architecture.
The Baroque to Brutalism.
no i understood that haha i just think it’s a very ignorant point to make
i think you should keep making jokes about having a little amount of subscribers forever. would be a lil funny. great video btw
hahaha ya know what deal, that would be funny
i already have 45 subscribers so i should know
also THANK YOU glad you liked it!!!

lmfao figure skating is a technical sport not only purely artistic it’s not like modern dance on ice 🤡
RIGHT ITS SUCH A STUPID COMPARISON
i got the quiz right 😌💅🏼
YAY good
you’re apparently smarter than his Grad students (who i’m sure are real)
Not down with the message but that's life, if we all thought the same it would be boring.
hmmm i think prager u is pretty clearly fighting make art more boring on purpose
This guy would absolutely hate those new age Neolithic cave paintings. Such a stupid art movement, mammoths don't look like that 😡
yeah no kidding! not realistic at ALL
Okay wow I learned a lot from this video. And giggled a lot. 💜💜💜
woah…those were the EXACT two things i WANTED to happen…

#205 sub club 💃
hahaha heck yeah WELCOME and THANK YOU!!
Pokémon hahahaha
pokémon teehee
AMEN this is very well said thank you
Especially poems are for decoration
I’m with PragerU here.
can i ask why?
guess not
I love when these capitalists like those at PragerU complain about the art industry and people not producing art that they like, as if capitalism hasn't prevented millions of artists from creating.
Come on, there's some seriously bad modern art. And some good stuff, but not enough good stuff to forgive the seriously bad stuff.
i mean obviously there’s bad art that exists lmao what’s your point
bad art always has and always will exist
watch the video
