Great to watch this and be so grateful that my area in Idaho is so much warmer. In 31 years here, I have never seen the temperature drop below -10 and many winters it doesn't drop below zero. We got 3 feet of snow one winter followed by rain within a few days, causing flooding at lower elevation I live at 2700 feet and live 30 miles from the largest wilderness area outside of Alaska. Latitude makes a lot of difference. Our rivers freeze most winters, but never to the bottom. And lucky for us, population is low. Our mountains are just as high and maybe higher.
Nice video. We bought in Post Falls three years ago. One of the things to think about when you are looking at houses is how well they are built for the weather, specifically the cold. Is there heat tape on the water pipes (check the breaker panel), how thick are the walls and how good is the insulation, do the heater vents come under the sinks in the house, etc. Not all houses are built as well as they should be for this kind of weather. Luckily for us ours has had zero issues with the past couple of sub zero events.
Well Kory that will weed out a few thinking about moving there....HA. It got cold here in Northern California to, but NOT that cold. I am used to snow and driving in it and for me these winter months are time to get things done INSIDE, then in the spring and summer you take care of the rest. As my dad always said...if your going to be a bear, be a grizzly. Hope you didn't bust any of you water lines, stay safe and warm. Thanks for the update..Chris
Yep...I am sure we will see some "Winter Kill" after this winter. I didn't mention it in the video, but we had a drain pipe along an outside wall freeze...with heat tape on it! Took an hour with a heat gun getting it to flow again. Winter is my least favorite season, but if that is my worst complaint, I won't trade North Idaho. The plus side is the winter keeps the 8, 6, 4, and two legged vermin thinned out. Thanks Chris.
That looks like heaven, Kory! Thanks so much for the tour! Been missing your creative videos. Have some friends that moved to McAllister, Montana. -40° last week. Summer is my least favorite season here in Sacramento. I’m built for North Idaho - physically and politically. 😉
Thanks for sharing. Definitely gives a good idea of what's it's like there. Question...I noticed there's hardly any traffic downtown. Is it always like that or is it just because of the snow?
Yeah, the traffic and volume of people out and about was down due to the snow storm. Schools were all closed and tourism is at it's lowest for the next two months. Great question.
Someone stole my truck and trailer! They were recovered separately and now I'm dealing with insurance trying to get everything repaired. Just can't get out of this state!
use to live in Chester California where we would get 12 to 20 feet of snow and on one Saturday we got 8 feet in 7 hours and 45 minutes, then after get tired of all the crap from the rich people moving in i moved to Burley Idaho in 2006 then 2019 moved to Salmon and retired but became a snow bird for winters in southern Nevada and Arizona

Awesome coverage, ID is not for the weather wimps! Thanks Kory.
You got that right! Thanks
It hit -20°F up at my cabin North of you and now expecting up close to 40° this coming week! Almost a 60 deg swing!
I know, crazy swing. Thanks

Hey Kory wish we were up there to share in the fun but we were busy dealing with bad news down here in Newsom land
Dang, sorry to hear that Brother. Hoping you can return soon. Let us know if we can help with anything.

That sucks. As if you needed more confirmation about making the right choice to be in North Idaho. Hang in there, you will be here soon enough.

Almost a foot an hour is nuts! I can see why the snowbird life is attractive.
I LOVE IDAHO:)
Yep, it keeps us guessing for sure!
