It'll only take a couple of large washers to fix that slop. Great work, thanks for sharing!
mentioned above is a new thing "self aligning spherical washers that I think are the winning ticket to fix this.
Awesome video Cliff, thanks for putting that together. A few months ago I mounted my diamond wheels to a similar variable speed grinder and while I found it worked well, having your ‘blessing’ on the project makes me feel much better about using it. I will change the direction of the wheels as you did and watching you work, as always, I picked up on some great learning pointers. Your videos are like watching a Master Class!
Thank you sir!
I think the rotation thing is personal preference like sanding belt directions as well. I like a consistency of motion for my rotating wheels in shop so there is a muscle memory that reduces the chance of "mistake"
Cliff, it's always enjoyable to watch your informative videos. You take simple processes and explain through demonstration how to implement your ideas. Genius!
Another excellent video...informative and well produced! Thank you.
Appreciate it Gary, I like this easy to create format too, not overly conplicated to edit together. Happy Thanksgiving!
Another good video, I just brought a 1x30, machine, a d made an angle guide, as they aren't available in Australia, and postage from USA, is ridiculous.
It works but I will do a rebuild later, as p8vot points aren't quiet right.
I do like the set-up for filleting knife's, that I cannot do on my Sabre wet grinder.
Cheers from DOWN UNDER
One thing that makes a wheel go side to side its the threads on the nuts that works of line to be a thread , and the side of the nit which faces on wheel pushes to be off a little bit.
Do you do the same for your wide spindle machine that you have your scotchbrite wheel on? Also, does the Scotchbrite and felt wheel need to be slow speed?
Another informative great video. Thanks for your instructive videos.
Another great video, Cliff! Do you know if Self-Aligning Spherical Washers would help with the wobble? I use them on my grinder with an 8" CBN wheel and it runs 100% smooth.
I think these washers are a must have and I will look into it right away. Thanks so much for the mention!
Never thought of flipping the machine like that!
Of course it will work. You built it!
Lol, appreciate the vote of confidence. Im always fingers crossed when I hit the record button. Makes it fun to see...

for sure! sometimes I like to just show as I wing it so others can get ideas to do themselves with limited stuff too.
@@CurryCustomCutlery Im all for it, just thought it was funny because its very clear when someone is used to doing these things.
Patent pending?
I use the Rikon slow speed grinder with a custom arbor reducer and 1/4" and 1/2" 600 grit diamond wheels. Works great.
Great video as usual cliff! So I have a question, and I've done the exact same thing you did in your video but I always thought that I was kind of "cheating". I sharpen knives for a living, and every now and then I'll get a knife too hot. I can tell with a little bit of Browning or God forbid yellowing or blue. But when you took off the Browning at the bolste, at the start of the serrations you redid them and made them look fresh. When you get a brownish color on a knife or any other item for that matter, obviously you've heated the metal past a point that's good for the knife. Taking that little bit of browned or even yellowed metal off does that remove the weaker metal, or does it just mask it?
When I was a knife maker you learn about the tempering cycle and do it on purpose to reduce the hardness slightly.
This type of "toasting" is very shallow and can be removed without "ruining" the knife. Factory does it all the time too.
Perfect timing for this video. I just bought a Bucktool 2x42 belt sander and will be changing it over to edge trailing. Should be a relatively simple process.
Quick question. What modification is needed to convert a bench grinder to a variable speed machine? Thanks.
Nicely done, Cliff. Thanks for all the value you add for sharpeners. Is that a felt wheel you use on the wide grinder with your Scotch-bright wheel for deburring and buffing?
Yes and yes....now available in our store as brand new item.

Awesome, you have a store front
Hey Cliff happy 3:01 Thanksgiving. I have some buck tool grinders and have been considering getting the wet dry sharpening system. Do you have any experience with it? Or have you ever reviewed it?
I have not but am interested ofcourse! I have several hoppy project water misting setups currently Im playing with but nothing worthy of video so far.
This is the BuckTool model I was asking about, to be specific.BUCKTOOL 10-Inch Variable Speed Sharpening System 1.2-Amp Two-Direction Water Cooled Wet Stone Grinder 90-160RPM
Thanks Cliff, excellent videos. I look forward to learning from every one you post.
Hello, can you tell me what thickness the discs are? The thinnest and the thickest, thanks.
all the wheels and dimensions are on our shop website where we sell all this stuff for sharpeners.

Great video Mr. Cliff, I happen to have that same machine. Now I can order the spacers. Now could you use the diamond wheel on one side and leather wheel on other side? 6in.
Certainly can for sure!
Was that the J Carver wheel. I still have mine and installed it already just need to flip the motor to go away.
Great video! Which diamond wheel is that?
The most commonly is size of diamond wheels are the 1/2-in wide and the 1-in wide and you want a low grit or else it will be too much heat build up. We have both in stock 90% of the time
@CurryCustomCutlery thanks so much for the reply and information. I think I'll order the 1/2 first.... But open to your suggestions
What’s the make on the upper grinder with the long arbor?
powertec I think
Hey, thanks for another excellent video, what were the wheels you used on the finishing steps?
late reply sorry
600 grit scotch brite wheel to deburr
Felt wheel with blue compound to strop till its poppin

You're the Dude.
I Appreciate you Cliff. :)
I've picked one of those up from you.
It would be total slop, between shaft and both adaptors then wheel.
I know they say dont feed the trolls but,,, you did just watch this video where what I put together ran very smoothly on the bench and gave good results right?
stop the wabble with thin brass shims commonly used trick!
I love when a get a solid gold(brass) suggestion in the comments!!!
Nut goes on other side.
Got it thanks!
The nut was actually sitting right in front of the unit. The entire time.
