      I’m in the central coast in California. The water is too cold in here, so I thought I could buy something on the warmer side. Silly question, do you wear jeans under the waders?

  • @jourdanbe

    I agree and use the waders with the attached boots. Mine are made of PVC, but I just wear thermal long johns when it is cold here in SoCal and that makes them all season waders.

    Hi PK! I am 5'5" wearing size 7 shoes. So what size wader should I get?

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you'd have to go to the store and try it out yourself. (I wear a size 10 shoes, but I got a size 8 wader) I have a size 9 but found them too loose and wear the 8 100% of the time now

    Thank you sir, I appreciate the info.
    Many folks emphasize on tackle, tips & tricks, not enough on safety(floatation vests), comfort (warmth)and emergency gear (radios). If we’re cold and miserable it diminishes the enjoyment of going fishing by allot.

    Hi PK YI, do you think breathable waders suitable for surf fishing in Winter? I am concern it may not have enough insulation to keep body warm during winter. thanks

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's fine. The coast is actually really mild during the winter. Many times, I actually feel hot in the waders from moving around

    Hows it been holding up? Looks nice, I really enjoy cabelas products, I bought a synch fly rod its been great but I am weary now that bass pro owns them and they got rid of cabelas warranty.

    PK, I've used those Cabelas waders (and other, similar Cabelas waders) for many years, mainly for duck hunting. They're rugged and comfortable and have a good warranty, but in my opinion they aren't especially well-suited for surf fishing in Oregon.
    First off, they're 5mm neoprene with 1000 grams of insulation in the boots. That's good if you're wading/hunting/fishing in freezing water and freezing weather, but way too much insulation for temps we experience here on the Oregon coast and in the ocean. Secondly, if you're doing a lot of walking you're going to sweat like crazy and all that moisture is going to stay inside the waders. It becomes very uncomfortable and additionally makes it difficult to get the interior of the boots and waders dry before the next use.
    In my opinion a far better choice would be breathable waders with 600 grams of insulation in the boots. Here's a good example and these are what I now use summer and winter for duck hunting, surf fishing, clamming, etc.: Cabelas dry-plus hunting waders.
    They're plenty warm enough, are easy to walk in, and you don't accumulate moisture from sweating inside the waders and boots. They cost around $220, but are well worth a little extra money. You might want to give them a look whenever you decide you need a new set of waders.
    I really enjoy your videos....good luck with the fishing and maybe I'll see you on the 4th.

      I agree about the swamp ass feeling. Not fun at all. It's good if you are stationary most of the time, or very little moving around. If these go out, I plan to get the dry plus ones. The cabela's instincts are super nice, and I have my eyes on that pair. It's on sale right now for $264, but I don't need it now..

    i have she same pair un fortunatly their boot sizes run realy big i bought mine online , so if you can go to cabelas and try them on first , i have to wear like six pairs of socks to make them come close to fitting other than that they are awesome really good for winter steelhead too, if you use them river fishing use the safety belt in case you trip to keep water out

    Thanks for the video. How are the felt soles? Good on rocks? How do they wear? Thenks

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the felt soles, they give some extra grips on rocks. I have it for a little over a year now and the soles are still great, very little wear - I have a slight heel drag. I would surely buy this wader again.

    The only thing I care about wader is how long they can last before leak. This video is one year old. Is the wader still leak free now PK? One or two years life of wader is not worth for a $200

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has no leak yet. I clean it well after each use and store it in a cool, dry place. Cleaning is the key

  • @MarkoAbo

    Keeps you warm but doesn't breathe. You sweat like crazy! Buy a good breathable wader, you won't regret it. Simms, Redington, Hodgman are go to waders...Cabelas not so great.

  • @ScooterBlia2
    @ScooterBlia2 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are neoprene waders water proof or do they still allow water in and just keep you warm? I remember wearing neoprene shirts and the instructor mentioned that neoprene allows a thin layer of water in between the body and suit and allows the body to warm up that thin layer of water to keep you warm. No idea if true or not or maybe designed with a difference purpose.

    what if you fall and they fill with water? death

    • @archivefootage7898
      @archivefootage7898 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Apparently not, Walt. You wear a wader belt and if you do fall in, you can lift your feet to the surface and the buoyancy aided by the trapped air helps you stay on top of the water....then you get out!
