- Mumbai Pune Expressway’s 13.3 km ‘Missing Link’ project by MSRDC is an under construction 8 lane access-controlled highway with a route alignment connecting Khopoli to Kusgaon.
The link with a string of viaducts, tunnels and bridges aims to bypass Khandala Ghat’s hairpin turns which are prone to landslides, reduce distance by 6 km, reduce travel time by 25 minutes, and provide a straighter route.
The project was approved for construction by Mahashtra Government’s Cabinet on June 13, 2017, and has a current deadline of March 2025.

As a Pune resident who travels frequently to Mumbai, I am keenly awaiting the day when I can travel using the MTHL as well as the MPML. Thanks for your amazing videos - in particular, the drone shots inside the tunnel - as well as the excellent explanations of the traffic schemes.

And if you're travelling in evenings from mumbai to pune then even more as it will eliminate lonavala Ghat section slow traffic due to trucks climbing slowly on ghats
@@gaurangnaik850I am worried that even after missing link becomes operational still there will be gradient and heavy vehicles will slow down .... today they are occupying 3 lanes tomorrow they will occupy 4 lanes of missing link and once that section gets blocked then they will occupy 3 lanes on existing route

@@nikhilPUD01Tbh 9km tunneling using NATM method that also 4 lane wide is kinda challenging also as he said the valley experiences high wind so people working need to take extra precautions as well
The fact that we don't need countries like USA, China or any european country to do this type of projects in India is amazing. yes of course the raw material or machinery might be from other countries but our people doing this mega projects makes me feel proud.
While a lot of the execution is local, most of our infrastructure design is entirely outsourced with international consultancy but ya its still impressive that we’ve come this far
And it develops domestic expertise
@@yohankapri4285L&T and Afcons do have all the required expertise, infact L&T executes some of the mega projects already in Middle East but outsourcing the consultancy or jointly developing derisks the overall process. Yes heavy machinery is something which we need to build more local companies.
I live in this area, I must say, work is going well at top speed, and what you said about safety is right, this is a tough terrain and requires safe driving conditions...

One major issue that I noticed when I recently travelled in this expressway is that where 6 to 8 lane conversion has been done, the lane marking work is pathetic. New lanes are marked without erasing the older lanes and they aren't even overlapping. It is visible in your video at 03:22. This is extremely dangerous. I'd request you to call this out through your video, as it has such a good reach and impact.

Droneman Thanks for the update 👌 Appreciate your hard efforts. PS-I think in future the existing twisting ghat section of expressway will be made a part of the Old NH-48, so they should convert the existing Two lane one way road from Khopoli exit to Shilphata (near Patal ganga river) to 4 lane highway and add an entry at the exit point, so that old NH-48 will become totally 4 lane and also it will bypass Khopoli city and Lonavala city completely. Ghat section will have 3 options in future. New Tunnel expressway 8 lane,Old NH-48 6 lane, and the very first & oldest 2 lane road for local light vehicle traffic.
