These are some great tips. Although I am not a working nail tech (I'm self taught and only do my own nails) I do strive to post my work daily. It has helped me grow on Instagram and TH-cam. Looking forward to more Biz Talk episodes.
LongHairPrettyNails i watch your videos , your great:) i am a nail technician and i do my own nails too and i sware you can do your own nails better than me :), do you not want to become a professional nail tech?
I started my business from my new home 4 years ago. I knew no-one! NO-ONE! So how did i get my business out there? Social media! I posted my work all the time and where am i now? I now have a shop, 3 staff and im busy everyday. I still post all the time and pictures sell your expertise. Great video and people need to listen to this xxx
I absolutely love this series! I'm not actually a nail tech, I'm a make up artist, but I feel like these tips are so transferable into any field of self employment, especially within the beauty industry. Thank you so much for all the tips, can't wait for the next one!
I would suggest doing a part two to this video if you haven’t planned that already. I’m an independent stylist who does nails, I work out of a studio I rent in a larger complex. One of the things I learned that I didn’t know earlier is that I needed to tag the business I was subleasing from. I thought tagging was just a way to draw your friends etc to the post, but by tagging the business, my instagram then becomes associated with the business and then opens my IG up to a wider group of people besides just my followers. Also, whenever I do a set, I tag the companies who’s products I’ve used(ie YOUNG NAILS), as well as using them in my hashtags. I also think it’s important for people to learn what and how to use hashtags properly if they’ve never done it before. I had to learn it, and now I know hat when I create a hashtag that I link it to a grouping that has a smaller number of hashtags associated with it so that my pictures come up sooner that others. Another reason and advantage to have an IG is that I can create a link that takes people to my online booking service menu. That way if someone decides that they like my work they can easily set an appointment with me immediately rather than having to call or text or email me. I have it on both my IG and my FB. Another thing I’ve found useful for social media is a good video editing app on my phone. You guys did a TH-camr who said the name of an app she used. I got the app and I love it because it will take a grouping of picture or videos or both and create a template video automatically that I can then accept or tweak to work for me, and I really didn’t have to work for it at all.
YoungNailsInc having been in this business for so long, like you, I feel that any help or experience I can offer is just a way of paying it forward. I’m glad you guys are doing this. People just starting out are lucky they have resources like TH-cam to learn all these things.
Thank you much for this video. I am a nailtech since 1990 and i start social media last year. Before some years it was enough to have your No at the local phonebook or just your website. But Instagram is now the first page where customers find a nice look for their treatment. So thank you for your videos 😘😘😘
Thanks Tracie and Habib!! Great information!! I recently started my IG account. I’m not working in a salon yet however I do have trainer hands I could be utilizing!! I commit to my career to get to work and post post post!! The Biz Talk motivates me more and more each week. ❤️💕❤️💕❤️
I've looked through so many nail pics on Instagram and its true. You can get ideas, see how they pose etc etc etc. This is excellent advice and IMPORTANT!
I could not agree with you more! Although I’m not a licensed tech, I am a Nail blogger and on the rare occasion I actually get to do some nail art for my own pleasure, I snap that mani! It goes on my Instagram. If even I, a nail blogger and product reviewer can do it, imagine how much of an advantage a nail tech will have. Great video you guys!
Love these video's!!! I never used to be on any type of social media platforms and had to open a Facebook account to advertise in my local area and it was a tremendous help!!! I later created a Facebook page and recently opened an Instagram account that linked to my business Facebook page account. Now clients can click on the contact button to make appointments and my clientele really grew from there... it took me two weeks in between clients and studying for my degree to set up my Cosset Nails Facebook page, open a Instagram account and figuring out how Instagram works as I'm not that tech savvy lol, but the late nights were worth it!!!
You guys are awesome! No really you are. I love EVERY SINGLE video. So informative and you honestly care about the nail industry. Also, Thanks for giving me a kick in the but to get my Instagram account started.. ;)
This is 100% correct! I'm so glad you brought this up. Something so simple can effect your business in such a huge way! I would LOVE to see a video on posing and lighting etc #THANKSBRO
Wow just talking about this last night with a friend and she will be able to help the Tec challenged nail tech with this so now I know I am on the right path
Excellent video! Also, I would like to add to go ahead and use your own nail art if you don't have that clientele - tremendous help because clients have SOME.THING for options on what your capable of doing😊its what I'm doing and it works like a charm!
Hi Tracey and Habib I totally do what Melissa does. All my clients by now already knows to send me a pic of what they want and then we work through designs to make it their own. So tht we don’t waste time while sitting in my chair. Everything is via text. New client do the same , just they send their nails since it’s a new client. Regulars I off course know wht their nails look like already right... Also hashtag the crap out of your post lol so that everyone will see your work. Hashtag your area .. even the continent 😁 thank you for this episode was interesting
Thanks for the biz advice guys!! Could you guys elaborate on bizness licenses & requirements needed right out of school in order to get started in the field? Please!! I'm sure Cali has diff things they require, but I'd still like to hear your opinion...
My business is fairly new to Instagram. One thing I love to do is post pics of my customer's nail designs. I have about 80% nail techs that follow me. It shows of their creativity, brings them followers and hopefully more clients.
Hey Habib and Tracey! I love your channel, I live in Norway and recently qualified as a nail tech (a month ago) and trying to build a clientele. It's tough, I only have on average maybe 4 people a week (ouch when does it get better!), so I won't get enough pictures to post every day. Do you have any tips for what I can do on those days where I literally sit and twiddle my thumbs? I've sometimes played around with designs on swatch sticks and posted pictures of those, is there anything else? (This question goes to anyone who has any advice of course!)
Congratulations!! Posting your design ideas is a great way to promote and be able to post once a day. It will get better, keep practicing and posting and the clientele will follow.
Just let you know it works...since i've watched your video i load up a picture of my Babyboomer customer from yesterday - got a lot of clicks in minutes on instagram AND a customer request for an appointment 😘😍😘😍😘😍
I get more clients from my website than from social media. Instagram and Facebook are ok as add ons but much more time consuming for the value of return. You said it yourself, people to go websites to BUY. Social media is browsing. When someone wants to find a nail tech in their locality with intent to make an appointment they mostly to go Google etc.
Her Nail Desire I'm not a nail tech yet. I post the manis I do on myself. I never do the same design on each hand (more canvases) and I plan on getting a training hand and I have volunteers to practice on. So there are many options. Good Luck!
Her Nail Desire yes you can post work on yourself, also, why not Work on friends and family and post? Do you like being in front of a camera? You could post about how you feel on certain trends ? Etc.
I do this as well as posting to FB. I have business cards I give to each client I take and potential clients I meet. I also take out ads in the market place on FB. I've had a few clients (very few clients) come to me from FB, but none from Instagram. My biggest problem is that I'll have people contact me, say they are interested, even make an appointment and no call no show on me. About two thirds of the people who contact me over social media end up ghosting me the day or time of the appointment.. What can I do to help this situation? I've messaged them an hour or the day before the appointment, I've even had people say they are in route to my location and poof! Gone. Nothing. Nada. The most effective way I've gotten new clients has been word of mouth so far, but I really want to fill my book. If I'm not busy I'm not happy.
Flowerchild wiggle wiggle word of mouth is always solid... have you tried to request a small deposit? Like $10? Also, do you talk to them on the phone when they first book? We found that taking to them directly makes them realize that there’s an actual person on the other end of the phone instead of messaging, where they might feel it’s easier to cNcel.
Shari Campbell there will always be trolls... can’t stop that, but there are more awesome people than negative. Get a ring light from amazon... it’s $80-$100 and will up your quality tremendously
I do have an ig account and my daughter has posted some of my nails on there but i am not too good with instagram or any social media actually. I have a facebook business page where I do post all my work. Is it important to have ig? I live in UK also just incase that makes a difference to how popular instagram is
Nails by Krissy IG and Facebook are most important in our opinion. If you’re not too good, you can get good... you can do this!!! 😁👍 you just need to do a little research... head over to TH-cam and search for “how to use Instagram” and you will get a ton of vids to guide you... youtube is an incredible resource.
i have an Instagram account and i use it almost every day but its my personal one i do not have one for my nail business specifically.... would you suggest to make one for only my business??
Depends on how comfortable you are to share your personal... if you want that separate then you can have a private personal, but if not, then 1 account for all is cool. People can also get to know you this way.
Jamie Baker you should use tags that are most relevant to the pic... for example if you did Valentines Nails you could use #valentinesnails #pinknails #nails #nailsofinstagram
Well Well if this wasn't the kick I needed... I take pictures, I have an IG account...but!!! I don't post regularly :( why I think I feel intimidated are my nails good enough I know, I can hear you now OH NO I promise I will post and will tag you...Thank you I love love your videos..
Thank u so much guys, not Manny business would share that information. I do have Instagram and I do post my nails, but not everyday . However I will now thank you so so much. OH and by the way Nails_by_Tracie_k 😀
Also important is to sign your picture... So nobody can steal it and present as their own... I put my Instagram name and my Fb Page on every single picture :) @superbondi & Bondina Nails
Practice on yourself and post that to your pages, people love to see the journey. Market on social media and spend time walking around businesses near you to hand out cards and talk about your services, everyone starts somewhere you're def not alone!
