Just found your channel and subbed. Very informative video. You’ve motivated me to tie some of these poppers for bass fishing. Thank you from Washington State.

Hello Svend! I would like to add my 2 cents to this fly, if you allow me. It's about gluing the head.
I did exactly like you and realized that after a few catches (Peacock Bass fishing in Brazil) the head came off the hook. Then I realized that, the glue and head contact surface was very small.
Then I found my in my fly tying stuff a micro chenille. I rolled a few spaced turns of micro chenille and enlarged the hole in the head. I put glue on the chenille and put my head on.
    Ready.
    Head never moved again.

That’s a great idea. Thanks for sharing. That’s why I generally resin the heads in advance so that there is a bond on the outside as well. I haven’t had any fall off this way yet 🤞🏻. How large do you have to make the hole to get it over the chenille? Do you drill it out ?

@@Svenddiesel I believe the hole is 2-3mm. I use a very thick needle, as you did, I make the primary hole normally and then I cauterize it, heating the bodkin with a lighter and placing it in the hole. This creates a "tunnel". I only put glue in half the length that you marked in red. Because it will go in very tight and the tendency is for the glue to move towards the hook gap. And I put my head in turning the vise as if I were putting a nut on a screw. This movement gives me precious time to position the head and also make sure the eye of the hook is free.

2-3 mm is bigger than I do. But that makes sense how you glue it. I’ll have to play around with that but generally I lay down a nice thread cost if I burn the popper head with the bodkin. The owner of the popper heads said glue is enough if you haven’t glued it. But I still resin or epoxy the whole thing

Nice Tie! I like those heads, so many possibilities. You could use that in 3 different topwater variations, flat front (blockhead style), edge front and down (slider style), edge up w/ flat back would really spit on the strip.
