His journey, he explains, did not begin with a sudden realization in adulthood, but rather started long before he was born. In his culture, it is believed that some children are chosen by their ancestors from the very beginning, with signs of this calling often manifesting even before birth. Dr. Sangoma's story is one such example.
He recounts how, before his mother knew she was pregnant, she experienced a vision in which she saw an old couple-an elegant Tsonga woman dressed in traditional attire, standing beside a tall, thin Tsonga man. The couple carried something in a basket, though his mother could not see what it was. She did not recognize them, but when she told his father about the vision, he immediately knew who they were: his late grandparents, Ngongondwane ka Baloyi and his wife. This marked the ancestors' early sign of his impending arrival.
Shortly after this vision, his mother discovered she was pregnant with him. Dr. Sangoma was the seventh of eight children born into a family deeply rooted in tradition. His father, Mosesenyane Makaringe Baloyi, was a proud Tsonga man from Tshamahansi village in Ka Nduna Msesane.
