- This video is about UE Megaboom 12 Tips when dismantling. This shows some things to watch out for . Unlike many videos which just tell you to pry it apart, I show you what can go wrong . Don;t F up your Megaboom while trying to fix it.
clearly you have disassembled thousands of electronics in your life
your video is very thorough and well put together... I especially appreciated all of the tips on where to be gentle what to do first and even more so you went above and beyond when you showed the pics of what happens when you don't follow those helpful hints... excellent video.
Many thanks .
I initially watched some other TH-cam video and made the mistake of following what they said and broke the parts I showed. They can be still fixed but with great difficulty.
Hope my video helps you to not break the fragile parts .
Very nice instructional. I second the test for power to the charge. My cord got an internal break.
Well
Done . Also watch for incorrect power packs which sometimes are too weak .
Fantastic video. Way better than other UE battery replacement videos. Thanks
Thanks Ron. Hope you’re replacement goes well. As I always say , you learn by your mistakes so hopefully I made the mistakes for you .
Awesome mechanic, thanks for sharing this with us 🍺🍺 Cheers mate 🍺🍺
Thanks for your nice comment
Thank you, you probably saved me a headache.
Hopefully you get yours going .
Excellent video. Exactly what I was looking for, thank you.
I have been wrestling with a non charging UE Megaboom for 2 years. Finally fixed it!! The charger they give you is too short and doesn't make proper contact. Trim back the surround a couple of millimetres with a scalpel. Fixed!!!!
That’s strange if it was the original ue boom cable as that is made to match the ue boom
@@Dentinvent one year on... turns out it didn't work... i just keep that speaker plugged in all the time now... I've had the thing repaired twice, too... it seems to be a problem with UE speakers
Yes I always think the original cable fits better but also remember your internal battery dies with age and not just with use .
Great video 👍🏻 if I wouldn't have seen it first then I would probably have f***ed up the side of the circuit board
Robin,
I took apart many of these units and indeed f***ed up one of them. That’s why I made the video. I initially watched some other TH-cam videos and they didn’t warn about breaking off the side boards . The side board controls the charging so if that if f***ed then so is the unit unless you have a spare to take parts off.
Terrific video and you answeres to the problems posted give your post a touch of class.
Many thanks Jerry. Often there are things which I can’t fault find and you tube doesn’t have the answers either so I just keep buying more broken items until I work it out myself. I then try and share the knowledge .
Per the company, there is most likely a simpler solution. I unfortunately started pulling mine apart to see how to get at the battery and then suddenly it started charging again after many charging tries. Confirmed by the company's instructions below. Contact them for the full PDF of tips and tricks....
My MEGABOOM no longer charges, how do I fix it?
Your MEGABOOM can sometimes get into a state where it doesn’t charge. To get your MEGABOOM back to a normal charging state, do the following:
1. Connect your speaker to the charger and leave it connected for a few seconds.
2. If the charge LED fails to pulse continuously, disconnect the cable from your speaker, then
reconnect it, and leave it connected for a few seconds.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until your speaker gets to a normal charge cycle - the LED should continue to pulse. (This could take up to 25-30 times.)
4. Once your speaker gets to a point where it charges normally, continue to charge it until the
battery is at 100%.
Be sure to update the firmware on the speaker so that the issue does not re-occur. To update your MEGABOOM software:
1. Download the latest app for your speaker.
2. Connect your speaker to your smartphone and open the app.
3. Tap More, then tap the update prompt.
(I think if the latest update is already installed, there is no "More" option. I didn't find it or any indication a firmware update was available to install on the speaker.)
Perform a Factory Reset:
Press the Volume “-” and Power buttons simultaneously and hold for 10 to 15 seconds.
You’ll hear a tone that indicates the reset was done and your speaker then should turn off. This reset will bring your speaker back to factory settings.
Turn your speaker back on using the Power button.
The speaker will be in Bluetooth discovery/pairing mode.
After you have performed the Factory Reset, please charge your speaker overnight (5+ hours) to recalibrate the battery.
All the above worked great for me. The link to the PDF (if allowed and shown next) is"

That’s great info . Thanks for sharing . I’m sure that will help many people . Seems like a lot of people having charging problems though .
Its actually work ..thanks
I’m pleased it worked .
I loooooove "if it doesnt work...open it up! What harm can it do?" That's my brain in a nutshell lol.
Yes if
It doesn’t work and is out of
Warranty see what is going on inside but always be careful not to break the main connections on disassembly.
Hi, nice video! I am having similar problem with my megaboom. It said that The battery is low, I changed The battery but it didns’t help at all. It won’t get up. Do you maybe know why? Do you have the electic diagram? Thank you!
I do t have the circuit diagram but check to make sure you are using the correct Megaboom charger or one that is powerful enough . Sometimes the wrong cable affects the charge as well.
Hi, i have this problem where the speaker wont charge at all, what i mean is, the speaker IS blinking but the battery percentage never increase, been using different cables and charger but no result. Also i have been resetting the speaker but still no luck
Now the battery is 0% and when i tried to charge the thing, it wont blinking now
Yes sometimes the charge board is f….ed.
The charge test cable I show how to make would actually show if current was going in . If the charge board is faulty, it will never charge and the battery will die.
In sone cases it is the internal battery fault. The battery does die with age of a few years .
Bit risky to order a new battery and find it’s the charge board.
When I made the video , I bought about 6 broken ones and got 5 to work and even sold the worst broken one off for parts . I kept one for my wife to keep.
@@Dentinvent any ways for me to make this thing works again?
@@JoFerl
I think you will have to take it apart but be careful and follow my video tips so you don’t break the side tabs inside.
I would try with a new battery and hope the charge board is not faulty as well as the battery .
@@Dentinvent ok im on it! Wish me luck XD
@@JoFerl
Make sure you carefully dig out the silicone sealant type glue as per my video. Message if you need advice as you go . Hope you have some basic electronics tools .
What if my battery is fully charged but will only turn on when plugged in and as soon as it’s unplugged it turns off
Hi,
I think that the battery charge indicator is wrong. It may say it is fully charged . Sometimes it can say “100 percent charge” and she is lying . It’s like when it says “ 40 percent charge “ and it’s zero. Remember the battery dies with age and not from usage . So when it is a few years old it stops working. Best of luck.
Dentinvent thanks for the reply ! I just took the battery out and put it back in and that seemed to fix it
Well done . Hope you successfully followed my dismantling tips to prevent wrecking the board ( is Massimo so if it is working now). Taking the battery out can sometimes reset the confused lady inside who thinks the battery is 40 or 100 percent charged . If it keeps happening , you may still need a new battery.
I'm more than happy breaking this thing open, given it's currently dead, but I'm not sure if it's a battery issue or a charging port issue. No LED when it's plugged in... does this point to a port issue over a battery one. I don't have a multimeter so can't investigate further. Any hints?
If the unit used to work and then just stopped , I would guess it is the battery . I found the charge port issue because I used to buy broken ones and fix them . It surprised me when I changed parts over to find charge port complete pc board problems. .
my UE megaboom charges no problem but after 2 days not using it the battery is suddenly empty...
Usually that means the internal battery is getting too old and needs replacement.
I need a UE MEGABOOM Charging Port board. Where could I find one? Thanks for any help!
Best way is to look out for a broken one on Facebook marketplace. If you find one, ask what was wrong with it before it died and assess if it had a charge problem . Be patient and a broken one will show up .
Hey can you help me my UE mega boom is not working the only thing it does is blink whenever I plug it into the charger and that’s only for like two seconds
Joe it sounds like the battery may need replacement . If your unit is more than a few years old , the battery may be dying .
Carefully follow the video on disassembly and remove the battery to replace it.
I broke the little thing on the side. What it called and where can i by this.
Don’t you just hate that ! You cannot buy that part separately . I would try and solder it back on . Use close up magnification and try to join the part back on . If you get stuck let me know .
Hi there, my ue boom 2 got damaged, it works but has something moving inside. Upon opening I saw a 1500uF capacitor, but the speaker works as good as ever. Any idea what is supposed to do? I didn't take the board out so I can't say where it was exactly.
The capacitor is most likely from the upper board and is related to the charge circuit. The unit will keep working but probably wont charge properly when it gets a flat battery. You would be wise to take the upper board out and see if the capacitor has come out of that section and see if there is any track damage and if not, solder it back in.
@@Dentinvent thanks I won't be able to do it until march but I surely will see that. Thanks for the advice I won't let it go flat
If you watch my other video make this lead and you can see if unit is actually charging .

Is it a pack of 18650 cells in there?
Feels like two 18650 cells inside so yes you could probably just swap out two cells . Preferably with a spot welder
I don't want to open it when it's brand new. LoL. I'll have to return it but I'm not in the country where I got it. Sucks.
Yeah only open it if not under warranty.
Always worth returning it if you bought it new . Maybe your country covers the warranty ? Would hurt to check .
Hermano tu las reparas tengo un problema con la mia
I only repaired about 6 of them so I made this video to help people .
Mine just needed to be plugged in/out like 10 times.
Hey man, I am having the same problem with my speaker. When i plug it into a power source, it only blinks about 2-5 times and stops blinking. I am able to get it to continuously blink only if i press the power putting with the 2-5 blinks it gives when i first plug it in. When blinking continuously, it just says “charging please wait”. When i reset it and hold the bottons, it’s imply turns back off again. Seems to not be holding a charge at all. Would you recommend a new battery?
Remember that the battery dies with age . If the unit is a few years old , I would try that first . Rarely is it the power charge board but I used to repair a lot of these and did find charge board faults as well. Be really careful when you lift the top section out and make sure you cut the glue away. Follow my tips on disassembly video. Good luck man.
@@Dentinvent See, I'm starting to think that's what happen with mine. I have 3 and the one that just stopped charging suddenly or turning on is probably around 4-5 years old. Is that the avg life if these speakers? Was looking into the megaboom 3 as a replacement, but I heard it sounds worse than the 2015 version we have. Have you had any experience with it? Thanks.
@@DaCake2 I haven't bought a megaboom 3 as my megaboom 2 is still working well. Remember that the battery technology is Lithium Ion and that means it has a limited shelf life. Meaning all lithium ion batteries will die even if they are not being used. I would try and replace the battery unless you wanted a Megaboom 3.
@@Dentinvent Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I'm going to try and replace the battery first and see if that does the trick. I hear bad things about the Megaboom 3's sound quality, so I don't want to go that route unless I have to. Thanks again.
Yeah forget all that noise. Looks like I'm buying a new one. 🤦🏻♂️ Props to you though my man. Very satisfying if you can get it to work again by your own hands, but this is way too much work and time involved for me. Thanks for the video though. You cracked me up each time you said "It's f"cked" lol.
Remember to sell the broken one as there are people out they fixing them or looking for parts
@@Dentinvent You know what, I actually changed my mind. Because your video was still shots, I thought it was a lot longer of a process. I looked up another video afterwards and I seen how simple it is. I'm going to order a battery and try that first. Thank you for letting me know though and again thanks for the video. You still gave me a lot of tips the other vids didn't.
hey can you help me...
I'm having issues with ue megaboom 3, bought 2 months ago
First issue i was facing was that the volume buttons on the speaker stopped working though the speaker worked fine.
but now 3 days ago the volume buttons started working again, so i reset the speaker.
Ever since that reset, my speaker won't start, nor the led blinks when charger is connected
Please help....
If it is under warranty ( being only 2 months old ) I would recommend taking it back and they should give you a new one.
If it out of warranty I can guide you on testing it.
What leds flash when you charge it ?
@@Dentinvent i fixed it myself after opening it 😁
Hey! I am also looking for a solution! My Megaboom doesnt work without a charger makes a strange clipping sound when powering down and the led isn't blinking anymore.
I opened it, everthing is clean - I had this problem before but I cant remember how and why it disappeared. It always says 42% in the app - any hints?
All the best!
P.s. The battery got pretty drained, I forgot to charge it, when it was empty and now it wont start up at all.
That 42% that you mention is usually the default that the Megaboom seems to have when there is a problem with the battery or the charge board . If it works with the charger I think it may be the battery . If you have a multimeter, see if you can make the test charge cable in one of my other video. This will show if any current is going in. Remember that the batteries have a limited life depending on how old they are . Best of luck.
@@Dentinvent i opened it, almost broke it because some golden pins got a bit squished - put the battery in the freezer and voila - it works again :D
MAKEDA
Yes be very careful as those golden pins can get damaged easily and it takes forever to get that black connector back on if it comes off the pins . Search amazon or eBay for a direct replacement battery in case your original one dies . Also keep it charged up and don’t let it start to lose charge . Good luck .
@@MAKEDAofficial hi how long did u leave the battery in the fridge for?
@@deolindaben6063 Hey! I took it apart too, ( which I would only recommend, if you are really savvy, I almost broke it ) I think I left it overnight. I also noticed by the way, that changing the charger and or the cable worked too (it has happened again and this time I tried other cables and other adapters because I don't have the original power adapter anymore).
Hi, my ue megaboom will turn on very unreliably, and i can not find a way to reset it. Sometimes it refuses to even turn on, any advice would be much appreciated
I’d probably start by testing that it charges properly . Make the charge test lead that I show in my video and then see if the unit is actually taking a charge. Sometimes the charge indicator is flashing but nothing is going into the battery. If this happens , the battery capacity is getting lower and lower and eventually it won’t turn on. What does it say when you check battery percentage? If it says 40% charge all the time, something is wrong.
@@Dentinvent Thanks so much for the reply. It very rarely tells me the battery percentage as it doesn't turn on the majority of the time. I'm not sure how to make the lead shown in your video as I have no background in this field, but I'll test with different outlets and charging cables and see what that does. Thank you regardless.
See how you go but from
My experience ( fixed about 6 of these just for fun) there are a lot of charging issues. The charge cord I suggest to make needs a multimeter to check charge current is actually going in rather than just the light flashing . This flashing light can fool a lot of people into thinking the unit is charging . If the lady voice doesn’t tell you a charge percentage or if it stays on 40 percent then there is a battery or charge board problem. Best of luck .
@@Dentinvent thanks very much, i'll keep tjhat in mind
My Box didnt work, i opened it, didnt remove the glue from the sides and one of these things (1:14) broke off. What exactly are these things? I reassembled the box without that thing and now it works fine again, lol
That thing is part of the charge circuit so I think you may have problems charging it .
@@Dentinvent Same with my box. Is it possible to buy a new one and fix it? How is it called and where can I buy it? It's charging very slow, the battery is new. thx for your video!
@@Saltmaker
Is it possible to buy what part ? I think if you search on eBay there are many selling parts from wrecked megabooms .
Or alternatively look for a faulty one and take the parts off it.
Good luck
Hey, what are the boards at the site for?
They are side panels that help hold the speaker grilles together .
Alguém sabe me dizer onde compro essa placa pois a minha estragou.
I would look for a broken ue Megaboom on eBay or gumtree and take the parts out of it
I think my megaboom got rain in my charging port, am I f...k ? did I kill it ? and if I shorted it out can it be fixed? Bs its water proof.. any place fix them around tampa fl? ty Ed
Ed,
Best way to test it is make the charging cord adapter that i show in my video and see if there is any charge current going in . If the charge board is cactus you can buy replacement boards off some eBay sellers . If you search around you might be able to find a broken mega boom and take the charge board out if it . Good luck .
Hello man thanks for the video but I request to chat with you
What happened when c128 near charging point when it's not on
If there is no power at C128 at all when you have power on the charger , there seems to be a fault with the charge board . You may need to see if you can find a broken Megaboom for parts .
@@Dentinvent ohh morning sir, the problem is that , the robot fall down, then the after I opened it, I found c128 is not there!! ,So the robot can charge without it or not?!
*sighs* (Buys a new speaker instead 😮💨)
Worth having a look inside while you have a new one as well.
@@Dentinvent That is true lol
