Now, there, you see that's just good skillful technique...Using the auger to bore the hole for the handle before cutting the mallet head free from the rest of the log. The weight of the whole log, and it's position down there on the ground (where foot pressure acts just like a clamp), makes best use of that big auger bit. Just beautifully and simply done. It's been a long winter here in Missouri, but seeing this has me all primed to get out there and get to working some green wood! Many thanks for the inspiration.
