We have run recaps on our trucks for about 15 years. Never had any problems with them. Only thing bad is the rubber is kinda soft and they wear faster. These trucks made trips from Ohio to Southern Maryland and from Ohio to Iowa many times with recaps. Their are also different quality recaps, just like about anything else.

I didn't even realize they still sold recap tires.
    Yes, I'd buy them.
Twenty-odd years ago I had a set that came apart on me over a two to three-month time span. However, I believe that was due to the fact that they had sat for a long time before I put them on my truck.

I'm interested in how they do on a car especially since you will probably never max the loading capacity out but when i ran otr I had at least one blowout a month on recap tires but I've never to this day blown a factory new tire.

I use to use them in the winter on ice and snow on a spare set of rims on my Chevrolet Berretta. One thanksgiving in the Texas Panhandle, everyone was stuck at work and could not go home for days due to bad road conditions. I was able to leave and get home with no issues no chains with a 45 minute drive. It was because these tires had a really aggressive tread. Now that I know they are available, I am going to start buying them again. I thought you could not buy them anymore, but you can.

I bought a set of retreads in the mid-80s. The seller told me not to drive faster than 55mph. I drove 60mph for prolonged periods and the tread came off the tires. They lasted 2 months.

In your opinion, how old can tire casings be? I see lot's cautionary reposting on the net on this, but given your background in transportation, your opinion would interest me. I have some NOS tires that I keep, they are getting 5 years old now. I wish to mount them and use them for another 5 years at least. Would you agree? Many thanks.

Semi truck re treads blow apart (tread blows off) because they are ran flat unknowingly and get hot. The heat separates the cap from the case because it melts the glue. In a semi truck, it’s easy to run a flat and not know it because they run tandem wheels. On a car, it’s way easier to notice and correct the issue, hence why that issue will likely not be an error on a passenger vehicle with re treads

I hope so. (And agree being over trucks myself), but I’m still a bit nervous on these. I take the back roads, so hopefully it’s slow and steady. I’ll watch the psi

I never knew you could get a recap tire for your personal vehicle. I have driven a semi for many years and they always use retreads on their trailer tires and drive tires and many times the tread has unraveled on me while going down the highway. Just started peeling right off the tire

I have had a few sets and they are absolute garbage. The tread separates from the case and puts air bubbles in it and vibrates and wear out abnormally. I will never buy these pieces of shit again.
