  • In this video, I interact with Maame Akua, a law student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Tech/KNUST). We talk about our experiences as law students who entered university straight from senior high school. We explain the challenges we faced and how we overcame them, as well as how we were able to combine our studies with extracurricular activities.

    I want to ask if Law is like other programs where you learn a particular stuff for a semester and never meet it again or what you learn in level 100 would definitely appear somewhere else where you’d be expected to write exams on?

    • @AprilN
      @AprilN  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      When you learn something in first year you'll definitely meet it again later on, sometimes even multiple times. And you would have to build on the knowledge you acquired in l100 so you can't just forget everything you learnt. But u won't write internal exams specifically on that area (because you've already written exams on it). However, most people go to Makola (Ghana School of Law) after they get their LLB and the Makola entrance exam tests you on courses from LLB l100-400. Law is not like other programs so my response might be confusing to you right now. If you actually get into an LLB program you'd understand what I mean otherwise it might be very abstract.

    What will be ur recommendation vis a vis final year courses? An elective or thesis?

    • @AprilN
      @AprilN  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on what you want to do in the future. If you are interested in continuing with a Masters in Law/ going into academia, I would highly recommend selecting the thesis option. However if you don't want stress in your life 😅 and you primarily want to practice law, then you can go for the elective.

    How does the fee paying option work in ug?

    • @AprilN
      @AprilN  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So its the same principle as explained in the video... its based on your WASSCE aggregate. If the cut off point is 06, the further your aggregate is from 06 (07, 08, 09, etc) the more likely you are to get fee paying. I hope I've answered you.

    • @AprilN
      @AprilN  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Felix. Generally, anyone can study law BUT i'll be honest with you. If you're not financially prepared to bear the burden of buying books and incurring other costs associated with studying law, it is not advisable to undertake law studies. It would be best to get someone to sponsor you or find another stable and sufficient source of income.

    Is law expensive? I mean the books and other stuff

    • @AprilN
      @AprilN  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes studying law is expensive but there are ways to go around it even though they are not the most convenient/recommended. For example you can rely on books in the library instead of buying them but this is generally not the most convenient and it is recommended that you buy books because you'll use them later on in further studies/in practice.

  • @decijohn6855
    @decijohn6855 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are saying law school, but you can't take an exam, and if, you pass the exam you practice law. I know Ghana follows the British educational system, so I am not surprise. In America you generally takes an entrance exam to go to law school, once you have a Bachelor's degrees, and once you graduated from the law school you take what is called the bar exam, and if you pass you go on to practice law. Using the word law school when you are not qualified to practice law is misleading. Blessings to you, though.

    • @AprilN
      @AprilN  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your comment is confusing. "Using the word law school where you're not qualified to practice law"? You need to go to law school in Ghana to eventually become qualified to practice law. So obviously if im in law school im not qualified to practice law, yet.
      When you're studying law (LLB) at a university in Ghana, you are at the University’s school of law (at least that's how it's called at the University of Ghana- so I say law school because it's shorter.) Don't compare America to Ghana because they are different. In America you need a first degree before going to what you're referring to as "law school". In Ghana you don't necessarily need a first degree to start law studies. The systems are different so a comparison is not necessary.
      But on another note, what would you like us/me to say instead of law school then?
