I think that with 65 - 75 % being right handed players. A right handed player will get used to right handed pitching quicker than; a left handed hitter facing a lefty pitcher. Using myself as a reference, In little league and high school. I faced alot of rightys. I had trouble pitching against alot of leftys because i didnt see them all that often.
being a lefty i didn't have to learn how to hang in on a curve until way late because i only had one lefty pitcher i would face on a regular basis. it goes both ways for hitters and pitchers.
I’m a true lefty , and I loved hitting against other lefties in college. It’s easier to read the ball, maybe because I was a pitcher in highschool * and moved to RF in college.
Thome and Pedo are the 2 best at explaing their craft.I think Chipper Jones said the reason he learned to switch hit was because of left handed pitching.
It has a lot to do with pitchers you commonly see. I’m a leftie and most of my friends growing up were lefties...we hit against each other and when I got into Little League, as a left handed hitter, I was way more comfortable against left handed pitchers. For me, the righties’ fastball would tail away. This continued up through high school.
I grew up with most of my friends being lefties along with myself...unlike most hitters, as a left hand hitter I preferred to hit left handed pitchers and struggled more against righties...especially fastballs that would tail.
Seems LHP pitching motion to LHB is a looping throw that almost appears to originate from behind the batter. Open stance gives the LHB a much better line of sight. It allows a batter to see the ball better. I think that a guy still needs to stand far enough away from the plate so the meat of the bat covers the plate, and extends maybe an inch or two across the right side of the plate.
Interesting hearing both of these guys talk about facing lefties, especially considering their career performances against lefties. Thome was pretty bad against lefties. His average was 50 points lower against lefties and his slugging was almost 200 points lower. Casey, on the other hand, hit .291 against lefties in his career. Slightly worse than against righties, but he certainly held his own.
I'm glad you said that. It irks me that MLB managers play this righty-lefty thing. It puts a complex in these young hitters heads, that they "can't" hit lefty pitchers. Good hitting is good hitting, whether the pitcher is left or right handed.
I'm a right handed person when it comes to things like writing but when it comes to sports may it be baseball, hockey, golf etc hold the stick/bat/club and swing left handed for some reason..is this common?
F Dannn Well it's not too common im the same as you, there is only one other kid on my team that is the same. When facing other teams, we see usually atmost 1 kid the same
The aim is to get to first; you look at the majority of leftie hitters and they turn their hips WAY MORE than righties. As an old lefty pitcher i can attest lefty batters are way more susceptible to the outside slider or inside change-upcos they commit their hips earlier. Why? Cos their in the habit of turning to run earlier
It might also be to do with the fact most left handed hitters are actually right handed people, and that dominant front side of the body can take over too much
@@bennnysackett33 I played half a season in 2nd grade, only managed to hit one foul ball, and i didnt even know the rules. I'm pretty sure I'm an expert.
right handed batter and would bat a lot better to right handed pitchers. lefties had my number most of the time. I had 400 and up batting ave. all the way to high school
I could hear these guys talk about hitting forever.
Same
100%

I have the same issue, I always felt like I was gonna hit them

I had the same problem, but for reason in my state of California I’m seeing an increase in right handlers hitting lefty
Draco Rubrum we'll take it back 15 years to when I was playing and not many righty's would cross over. Especially in rural Ohio! (Very small schools)
Makes a lot of sense!
man, kershaw's numbers are ridiculous
That number 22 will be retire in the future!!
Al has the most wonderful frantic energy
Left handed pitchers are weird like that
Man I loved when thome was here in philly. Great hitter and a great human being.
Thome is great! Case is too, these guys are classy and know their stuff

So fun to learn new aspects of sports. Its always something so subtle but so great
So interesting man i love it. Can watch content like this all day

This never happened
Another fantastic video, I love this stuff
This is fascinating to me.

That makes sense because a lot of sport is about what you grew up doing a lot as a kid.

The Mayor & Thome is good TV
As a leftie hitter I can see the ball slightly earlier on a LHP

Right handed but i hit left its as easy as right for whatever reason
he said he opened me up and cleared my hips…

Yes, look at all the left handed hitters who throw right handed, most of them actually
The aim is to get to first; you look at the majority of leftie hitters and they turn their hips WAY MORE than righties.

That is so intuitive

I'm a righty but bat lefty, play hockey lefty etc etc
Are you professionals there? How are you?
I always got beaned when the righties would pitch to me
this ended too early!!!
Im right handed yet swing like as if im left handed
Abel Aguirre that makes...no sense
Abel Aguirre I'm the same if your saying u bat lefty
Ken Griffey is the same way
sometimes its weird but yeah right handers use left box most of the time lol
This is absurd. There are decades and decades of proof that hitters are worse against same handed pitchers, period.
Why do they touch each other so much
A lefty never bothered me . I,m a lefty and always figured it just a pitch . You guy's over complicate things !
Scott O,Donahoe what’s the highest level you played?
