- Waiting on parts for the truck means if I want to go off road, I only have one option. Luckily... I have the bike that allows me to ride on a highway for 2+ hours, then hit the dirt, then ride all the home.
Definitely agree these bikes are awesome to take to the trail and home from the trail. Looks like some fun trails up there!
yeah, just plaguing through enduro/adv trails solo, no gear reviews, no plugs, pure riding, this stuff is becoming hard to find on YT these days. Many thanks!
Nice. A camera capturing suspension movement would be cool.
I'm looking seriously at the 890 adventure r, coming from a crf450l how heavy is the 890 on the trail? Is it like a large dirt bike and just as nimble? Is the weight down low as it's described to be? I'm getting ready to sell the 450 and this is a high consideration. Have you done any BDR's yet with this 890? Good video!
Haven't been on this channel in a while, sorry for the delay. If it was my only bike, I'd say its great on the trails. But... it's close to 500 lbs. Even the weight down low is weight. I ended up selling it. Not because it was bad on the trails by any means. If I had fewer toys and that was my main hobby, it's second to none in my opinion for BDR's and aggressive riding. (for a mid size adventure bike)
What mount do you use for your phone? Is it mounted on the GPS cradle?
I'm looking for a app that marks your tracks do you know what app your using ?
There’s not many videos out here of this bike, thanks for the content
That’s why I make these less than awesome videos 😂. But really, when I was comparing the tenere 700 to the 790, then ended up with this, I was having a hard time finding people that actually used them as designed.
@@2wheeltinker It’s definitely been informative watching your videos, can’t trust the moto journalists that get the bike for free lol how’s the bike been after dropping it a few times?
@@ianlowery3000 "A few" is an understatement. Probably 20 "Drops" total, but all of them under 10mph. Less than 5 low sides where I lost the front end in the mud. Sadly none on video but luckily all in dirt so no visible damage other than handguard, passenger peg, and exhaust scrapes. Joy of being 5'6. Low speed drops are unavoidable off road.
So far... nothing has budged. Impressive for a 500lb bike. I do think about it every time a 17k bike hits the ground though :(. (Taxes, destination fee, tech package)
@@2wheeltinker I just went to the ktm dealer today and sat on one, they are way bigger than I thought they were. I’m 6ft and I couldn’t flat foot the bike and it was heavy, you must have a whole lot of skill to ride that bike through what I’ve seen in your videos. The 690 enduro r is now looking more up my alley 😂
@@ianlowery3000 eh. My skill level is apparent in the videos. Average off road at best. Remember I’m using the low seat and only ride with motorcross or adventure touring boots. So that brings my inseam measurement up around 1.5”.
But yes, having been short all my life, I naturally move my body drastically to one side when stopping and likely full commit (stay on pegs) more than taller folks of the same skill level.
I have been riding heavy motorcycles for a decade which helps. I started on heavy harleys. (550+ pounds) now have tall dirt bikes and this. So taller, but lighter. So the weight doesn’t bother me.
Where are you located? Getting ready to pick up a Rally R next week. I ride FRO often on a 500 EXC-F too so you must be Central PA somewhere?
Baltimore. So I commute 2.5+ hours one way to get there a few times a month. It's worth it. I also ride lighter bikes there. Hit me up on instagram if you want to link up for a 890 day. @2wheeltinker
Picking mine up this Friday! The HYPE is real.
I have 0 regrets. There is no other bike that I could imagine owning at this point to do what I like to do.
Oh man, I wish I had a trail like that to drive.. I‘m Swiss and here it is forbidden to drive in forestst, offroad and even on non-paved roads near the fields. Fines are insanly high and I own a 790R, which I love. But I should sale it because it really makes me wanna go offroad..
Where is this, in the US or where??

Great video!! Do you know what the top speed of the KTM 890 is ?
You will get multiple answers from the real world. Around 120mph on my Mitas E-07 is the fastest I can go without encountering a risk of death wobble (it’s a 60/40 tire). No doubt on a more road bias tire and the street fender you can comfortably go faster.
Fasted I have been on dirt is 103mph indicated. But that was just to say I did it. Comfortable around 60-80 which is still of course high risk.
Should be 130. adv bikes are not aerodynamic though, due to no full pretty fairing and usually big hand guards
Looks like fun. What is your phone mount set-up? I see the X-grip. What are you using underneath that.
It’s my second version. If you check out my first videos, you will see my failed attempt at just drilling into the stock plastic cap. I grabbed a CNC cut base plate from eBay and it’s worked out perfectly as you can see. No movement, super secure. Also that’s the powered x-grip. Waterproof wireless charging.

What kind of chin mount do you use?

Great video well done. How tall are you and do you get any buffeting at highway speeds? Thanks.
5'6. Not if I take the visor off my helmet, which I do if traveling the highway for extended periods. Do keep in mind out of all the bikes I have had, this one has the tallest windscreen so I am not as worried about it as many that are coming from this class of bike. My previous motorcycles include an FZ-07, a v-rod, a honda magna, and a couple of harley cruisers with no windscreens. I just did a 1200 mile 2 day trip that was mostly road. I have no wind complaints.
Non-waterproof rider or bike? :)
Your height?
Cool video. :-)
Hello bro.. what is your height?
5’6
Fun!
Must be nice to live in a country where you can do this without some old git of a rambler/tree hugger moaning at you, the UK is to full of people to do anything like this anymore without someone objecting best of luck to you wish I lived in America
What is the app you use to mark your trail?
The tracks were from “Gaia GPS” which is nice to record the ride and help find your way back. This particular location has “maprika” maps. Which are terrible considering we are in 2021 but those maps lay out most of the marked trail which is nice.
So Gaia to mark my tracks and whatever the trail system uses in a given location. I’ve learned to not tie myself to a given app since trail systems all seem to use different ones. Or none.
Не поминай имя Господа всуе!
I learned from this video that the 890 is too big for off-road
It certainly isn’t a dirt bike. But I did ride it 2.5 hours on the highway, then 4 hours off road, then 2.5 hours home on the highway.
