      @@ericdodson2644 haha thanks to you!
      you may have some questions so here is what happened:
      i was looking at the video and a tought came to mind, is there a way we can convert the text within a picture into plain text? so i did a quick search and found this
      "Optical character recognition" service. i believe u have assumed i typed all of that but in reality i didn't, a computer did. i found a free efficient way to do so and with that make it much easier for me and the viewers to come back and watch the video in the timestamp they want i just had to take a screen shot send it and wait :D
      but really thanks for your recognition, i appreciate it.

      @@ericdodson2644 i was thinking.. if i could take this opportunity and ask whether its possible for a particular subject to be covered, i gotta admit that i had felt a little manipulative by saying that..
      Im new to your channel and lurked around for two days until i realized i wasn't even subbed! The first video i saw was "The enigma of self deception" (A very interesting subject, i think thats one of the subjects which can take over an hour) i was doing some research about it and ur video popped out of many others but you delivered better so i stayed and watched more of your content.
      Anyways, if its possible, (only because i saw you did answer to some suggestions from your comment section i assumed i could get a chance) can you please review the subject of _Attachment Theory_ ?
      Please know that i can accept no for an answer and you dont have to feel guilty about it.
      but if its possible and can happen.. i would surely be more grateful than i already am.

      @@Getyourwishh Yes, I think that Attachment Theory would be a good topic, although I'm tempted to make it one element of a larger and more general treatment of the theme of attachment (which would also include a Buddhist rendering). We'll see how it goes. In any case, thanks so much for suggesting the topic. In terms of a time-line... I'm probably going to do one on, "What Makes Life Worth Living" first (another viewer-suggestion). But then again... I find it's hard to predict where my creative process will take me. But thanks for being along for the ride, and for suggesting a great topic, too. Gratitude. Eric D. P.S. And thanks again for making those maps of my earlier videos.

      @@ericdodson2644 so you are already working on it! Thats great! thank you sir Eric!
      what makes life worth living is more of a philosophical question, and a very subjective one. People are not the same and they dont value the same things..
      looking forward for ur next video!

    Balance, two sides of a coin, relevance, limits. Good topics. I just want to point out, that "limits to things" don't invalidate it's value. There is no "magic wand or elixir". I don't think there is an escape from the ambition for a better life (whatever that means). But, this was definitely some food for thought.

    How does this video not have 100k views? Find your extrinsic motivation

  • @kevinhornbuckle
    @kevinhornbuckle 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Perhaps you could devise a psychology of music course. I'm sure it would be quite popular. Mixing theory, history, cognitive psychology and social psychology in an effort to understand the musical experience could really stimulate interest and inquiry in students. What you have to say about learning a piece of music is vastly true, even if it is a simple piece of music on a common instrument. Just the oxymoronic notion of self pedagogy can invite a person to learn how to learn and motivate for entirely intimate reasons.

    Hey Eric! could you do a video *on shame next?

    • @kevinhornbuckle
      @kevinhornbuckle 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If he does, I hope he will attempt to discriminate the personal experience of shame from the social function and history of humiliation. Tracing humiliation through history can tell us a lot about society and ourselves.

    • @neeldeshmukh124
      @neeldeshmukh124 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i agree with you Kevin. It's unsettling how our world is becoming one where that distinction is endangered, if that makes sense.

    • @kevinhornbuckle
      @kevinhornbuckle 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Endangered indeed. I just posted Eric's video to my farcebook page with the title: "This man has something substantive to say." I have about 900 "friends." I estimate that over the next three days, perhaps one will leave anything approximating a meaningful comment. To me, this indicates that the vanity reproduction purpose has overwhelmed the communication purpose of social media. Obviously! This effect would not be possible without implicating social humiliation as the opposite of vanity. In an economy, one cannot exist without the other. In the end, the distinction is endangered because the intrinsic ambitions have only polluted soil in which to take root.

    What is ambition without action? I’ve been trying really hard to understand just how “virtuous” ambition can be, and I haven’t been able to make a proper connection. It seems covered by courage- while “ambition” at least as we know it today, (maybe it was different before) seems more like pride.

    • @alwaysyouramanda

    Hello eric or any other person, i am young and seeking a few words of adivce on a current problem i have.
    I have an issue trying to forge meaningfull (whatever that means) relationships with people and a feeling of exietenstial dread when i social interact with people but i come to regret if later. Curse the duality of my nature, self aware enough to realise social interactions (much like this cry for social interaction) are nothing more then a product of evolution to find a mate or form a group of friends to benefits off are all meaningless but still i am still tied down to my evoloutionary human wants compelled to aquire social interactions (which come of bizzare and unexpected compared to my other state of not caring). These two sides of my view of social interactions really eat at each other. How did u guys comes to terms with this or if have u ever did or have u still not?
    Thanks for reading

    • @johanneskarlsson6535
      @johanneskarlsson6535 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey,
      This is my slightly disorganised take on some of your points:
      Knowing something of your human nature, or of its evolutionary history, need not denigrate your need for relationships, social interactions or other human needs, just as you do not need to mock the fact that you need to regularly eat or suffer the pangs of hunger.
      Being human means having needs, and it is not silly to acknowledge this. It is more silly to deny it, because suffering is senseless. There are constraints to how you can live your life if you wish to flourish and be happy. Your physical sensations and your emotions are your guides to action (your intellectual understanding of the world and your values and goals are also tools of planning your future action).
      All of what adds value to your life - relationships, knowledge, skill, experiences, property - which belongs to you constitute your personal "treasure chest", as it were. If you gain "treasure" you feel temporarily happy, it is a psychological incentive to proceed. Arcade games and computer games "exploit" this and simulate value-addition with blinking texts, numbers and sounds, which is the main reason they can be so addicting (I am not saying they are necessarily bad, however). If you lose "treasure", be it money or a friend, you feel temporarily sad. If you do not act, you stagnate.
      One more thing: among the most difficult things for many people is to choose what "treasures" to pursue apart for the more obvious ones like wealth, or what constitute a value (e.g. gardening or scientific knowledge). This value-code can change considerably over ones life-time. It is possible to choose to pursue "values" which are actually harmful to your long-term flourishing, such as doing crack. Jogging is better than doing crack.
