This is one of the better taxidermy videos I’ve ever watched. This guy showed more of the detailed aspects that other taxidermists haven’t shown in their videos. Thanks for sharing the process, and a beautiful mount!
I was a taxidermist for 28 years that specialized in whitetailed deer and all species of fresh water fish. Prior to skinning out the head I took four measurements. Left anter bur to the back corner of the eye, right antler bur to the back corner of the eye, left main beam tip to the out side corner of the left nostril, and the right antler main beam tip to the outside corner of the right nostril. This alowed for the antlers to be set on the form almost exactly as the were on the live deer. Ive been retired from taxidermy since 2007. I miss it! I have a few of my own that I'd like to do sometime... Great video Jared, and big thank you to Brian also for taking us along through the process! Its an art!
That's a great idea too on the measurements. Thanks for taking the time to watch, glad you liked it. Maybe you can find some time to get back into it, at least for a few!
@@jaredmillsI need to at least get back into taxidermy for my own critters. I started very young, around 13 years old so right out of highschool I had already had a clientele base that grew quickly. I still have some of those folks reach out to me on a regular basis to see if I've reopened my shop. It's definitely in my thoughts for sure!
A master at his work. It's true when he stated that every single part of the deer, every single strand of hair, is there for a reason & therefore has its own place. After all, evolution don't do random things. His attention to detail is impeccable.
as an 18th century firearm maker and fruniture builder There is nothing I love to watch more than folks who live by the ideal that right is right and wrong is unacceptable. talented professional enjoyed watching him create. do you ever consider repairing broken points on antlers even if they are not to be scored. I repair antlers and enjoy returning them to pre broken shape for those who desire it. some like racks just the way they are. thanks for view into your taxidermists art.
You nailed it, couldn't agree more. I've repaired a couple of shed antlers in the past (at a relatively low quality level), but haven't done any on mounts yet. I'm not against having them repaired, I can see why guys like to do it, I just haven't done it on any deer yet. Thanks for watching!
Excellent video! The attention to detail is phenomenal. The art of taxidermy at it's finest by far. Thank you for taking the time to document your trophy's journey and congrats on a super nice buck of a lifetime.
Such a cool video Jared. The attention to detail and quality that Brian has is second to none. Thanks for showing us the behind the scenes work. Heck of a buck and a gorgeous mount!
Man this was so cool to watch! Brian explaining not only what but why he was doing things. And then adding in the great attention to detail made it so satisfying to watch at master at work.
Man, you put out another great video. Your buddy's attention to detail is great. I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for when it comes to taxidermy work.
Really awesome mount, and beautiful cape to boot, can’t hardly beat the massive crown either. I’ve got that same left turn pedestal form on a very similar framed typical 12 SE Ohio. Thanks for sharing!
Nice work, and that's why taxidermy costs. You get what you pay for! It amazes me when I hear a hunter spend years and thousands of dollars to finally kill a nice buck, only to find the cheapest taxidermist they can find! 30 years ago, I had the urge to learn from the best taxidermist in my part of the state, only to realize that I don't have the patience or talent! Much respect, and I hope this video will help others to have a better understanding.
Absolutely beautiful work by your guy. I look at some of the mounts that I've had done and they don't share the detail that I see in yours. It truly does make a huge difference. Again, beautiful work and job well done.
My favorite line.. "As long as i know the horns are set correctly, thats really all i care about" he says as he meticulously carves the edge on the nictating membrane.
Beautiful mount Jared! Shout out to Brian! I'll never forget watching that hunt last year...unbelievable filming, makes us feel like we are right there with you man! Keep us posted throughout the year!!! 🦃 season right around the corner!! Goodluck from NC
I’ve been hunting my whole life, and this information that this gentleman has shared and taught me more information about deer that I never knew . I killed my first deer when I was 11 with a bear youth now. Now i use a regin 6. Thanks for sharing all of this amazing work and information.
Definitely the good taxidermist is an artist. I sat with mine and went through the cost of everything and we figured he was only making $11 dollars per hour. So many complain about price without thinking about the taxidermist cost. Absolutely can tell the ones that care about having a realistic end product. Great episode Thanks
You’re an artist I wish I could do that. I don’t even know where to begin. I’m in Ontario Canada. It’s a little different than the US you have colleges in this so now you can go to here. I think you just gotta learn off of somebody I am not 100% sure though but you do awesome work.
Great vid! I’m now walking around the house looking at my mounts for comparisons! Is that a McKenzie form? Love the idea of the video. Great work for sure.
I know that I will enjoy this, thank you for sharing. Made me think dang, what if he would of shot that buck the first day he saw him. we would of never got to see that crazy footage of the doe grunting and him jumping up out of bed and coming to the base of the tree. How epic was that!? Thanks again.
Great video variety Jared. Love seeing how that is done. I have had 4 or 5 different people mount my deer, and you get what you pay for as far as quality. Seeing them hanging next to each other really spotlights the bad ones. Would love to see how to care for mounts too.
I've done 5 mounts so far of my own and I'm waiting on the capes for two more from this past season and will mount them also. Each one I've done has turned out a little better than the last and it's the little details most of us don't know that make all the difference. I learned a couple of things watching this great video and it leaves me wanting to see more of Brian's work! Does he have a youtube channel, are there more taxidermy videos by him? If not there should be! Thank you for sharing, and great buck also!
A most interesting vedio. Here in St. Louis, Taxidermy is a dying art. We only have 2 shops left that i know of. And these guys are old and looking for replacement talents. Their are plenty of hacks around tho. Unfortunately, i trusted 2 of them and got what i paid for. JUNK The most quality guys will tell you that they do as many remounts as new ones. Everyone, use caution when picking your Taxidermist! And be prepared to pay dearly for quality.
Great video - loved the detail and passion from your guy. Only issue....I wanted to see more close ups of the end results!!! Looked awesome! Still one of the best hunting vidoes (especially self filmed I have ever seen), congratulations again! Love watching your stuff.
Absolutely gorgeous work! And the attention to detail is amazing!! Thanks for the video! And hats off to Brian! Where does he work so i can maybe bring my next trophy there?!
That kind of detailed work has to make anyone realize the value of such a beautiful mount. I'm curious how much would it cost for this high end piece ? My old man use to be a taxidermist, but nothing close to this caliber. Real nice work.

My best friend is a taxidermist and its awesome to just be able to understand what goes into them.
For sure!
The coloration of that beast's cape is brilliant. What a specimen!
Absolutely!
I really enjoyed this video.
I had Brian do a shoulder mount about 4 years ago. His attention to detail is absolutely incredible, second to none...
That's awesome. Couldn't agree more.
Great episode Jared! I learned much as to what is involved in producing a great mount; Thanks !
You and me both! Thanks for watching

I have patience. But what it takes to do this kind of work. Is on a whole new level. Beautiful job
That is for sure. And to do it over and over again on so many mounts is impressive. Thanks for watching.

Wow! This guy is good! One of the best I've seen, he treats every mount like it's going to be his. Great video Jared!
I would agree with that, he certainly doesn't cut any corners. Thanks for watching!
Nothing better than getting a mount back better than expected
I've come to expect the quality level from Brian that I get with each one, but it doesn't take away from that feeling of getting them back!
great to see that buck come back to like good stuff !
Yep, watched the whole thing. Had my attention whole time
Brian the absolute best. I drive from southeast Wisconsin…completely worth it.
Awesome video, his attention to detail is amazing.
No doubt! Thanks for watching as always
What a great show this was it’s amazing to watch somebody that has such an understanding of the deer to showcase it in such an artistic way
Blows my mind how many detailed pictures Jared has of this buck…master class all around
Thanks for watching J No
I was intrigued the whole time. Thanks for sharing

Awesome taxidermy work and one of the better videos detailing it.
Thanks for watching dublelung
Awesome video and thanks for sharing. Just crazy the amount of detail that goes into good high quality work.
Wow! Pretty incredible to see a rough breakdown of all of that. He is a great teacher and great artist.

My father inlaw does it and I’ve been wanting to go watch him work. Pretty cool process on everything involved with a mount.
I'd highly encourage it if you have the opportunity. I'd enjoy watching each one of my mounts get completed now that I've seen the process.

Just found your channel and subbed. Thankyou.

Good taxidermy. Looks like a captive ear tag in the pic around 19:00 minutes..
pretty mount
I had no idea. I saw at least 50 ways I would have screwed that up!

Exactly. I believe he's around $750 now for a whitetail shoulder mount.

Would like to know what glue he uses for the nodules on the nose.
It is liquitex mixed with that Yox gray color.
Amazing mount and videography! Jared who was the taxidermist that did your mount?
Great buck! ....but what hat you wearing? I'm always looking for another hat to add to my collection 😅
which form was that mount?
What is your blending brown?
What does he charge for a shoulder mount like this one?
Does anyone know what form that is? Thanks
Hi what tannery do you use please?
Midwest Wet Tanning in Solon, IA
Jared what medium is he using on the nose pad nodules?
It is liquitex mixed with that Yox gray color.
What form is he using on this deer? Thanks
