- BangShift.com presents Larry Larson's 2009 Drag Week winning '66 Chevy II running 6.934 at 211.59 mph in Las Vegas at the PSCA Street Car Supernationals. This video shows you all the angles, from inside, underneath the bumper, and outside the car. Larry's car was unchanged from it's Drag Week trim, and had only been outfitted with a new pair of Hoosier DOT legal "slicks". Over the 4 day event, Larry ran 6.99, 7.00, 6.96, and finally 6.93. After the 6.93 on Saturday evening, we added air to the tires, packed the chutes, filled it with pump gas, and cruised the strip for about 4 hours while shooting video and photos. i was there to watch that pass, it was getting very cold and that nova flew. you can see in the bumper cam at about the 1000 ft mark the front end was off the ground
winning is winning, 6.4 second quarter mile and street legal. Its an official world record until anyone goes quicker so nothing else matters.
Street car is a matter of perspective in this case.. But badass car, no question
I would agree for the most part. But Larson's v8 is one of few that are street legal. I'm not real sure how dependable it is, but I know he's mentioned he hadn't finished his highway cruising tune... So the MPG was suck.
I do know people who runs 9s in their daily tuners, 4 cylinder cars, v6 turbo'd fieros, and 8s... All of which can hit the track and be home that night, leave for work in the same car the next day.
The 8-9 second 4 cyls I know of are an evo and an AWD 4g63 colt/mirage build.

He never said it was 50 state Street legal but generally, state DOTs are easy going on cars from before 1974. BTW the video says that he packed up the chute so the plates would be visible

@rhpicayune I grew up muscle but fell in love with imports. Your best bet at trapping that high (and I don't think it's possible) is with a 2JZ or an RB26 DETT. Fully built, no doubt and set up for drag. When it comes down to raw power down a straight line, you just can't beat American muscle.

6 second door slammers are the awesome.
I drive an import with a nice fat 2.0 liter 4 cylinder boxer engine, it'll do 1000 miles in 5 days, stop to race every day and not break much of anything. the problem is it runs 11s. I've never seen a 4 banger do anywhere near 6 seconds and not have some catastrophic failure after more than a few passes.
@redoctober2008 yes there is. put a huge centrifugal supercharger, and then at about 5000 rpm, cut is and start the turbo. 700 hp, with only 1 turbo and 1 supercharger. put in quad turbos, and see what happens
the turbo even sucks the microphone into a vacuum so the is no distortion from the air!
@LayEmOut60 prob spooling up the engine to take off at the right RPM. The ET clock doesn't start until you leave the line

What is the fastest street legal 1/4mile on non drag specific tires? Could he run 7.5's on R888s or Michelin equivs fx? How much does those lowpres Hoosier give him? (Asking cause they arent streetlegal where I live) How much time does race gas give him over E85 fx? - Great video and well done!

I always laugh whenever I see titles of other vids that say "new street car record". Those always have a 8-9 sec import that everyone thinks is the fastest around. I suppose those guys just don't want to get embarrassed at Drag Week. They'll either be too slow or break down on the 1000+ mile trip.

@volksnerd87 I don't underrate what is happening with the turbo Imports. I respect the hi-tech, megaboosted 2litre screamers (as reliable as a grenade with the pin pulled), but my point was simple: *EVERY* winner of Drag Week is running a Big Block Chevy.

2ND THE PARACHUTE IS BLOCKING THE TAGS
3RD IT WOULD NEVER PASS INSPECTION DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE VEHICLE NOISE.
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST IT HAD TO BE TRAILEREDOR TOWED
1.) You can just put street tires on it. Takes like 3 minutes
2.) Take the chute off
3.) Just put the exhaust back on...

Cute, but will it do 1200 miles on country roads, rain, and do it 20 minutes after a 7.005 pass, hot lapping the car? I'm doubtful, it might, but that doesn't excuse the fact that Larry Larson can still do it and better :p
@rsg81800 You won't see a turbo ricer driving 1200 miles in 5 days across america to 5 cities to race 5 consecutive nights and WIN at DragWeek 2010 with a 6.95 pass @ 209mph!!
