Having no magnet on board, you will need to add a small amount of lead weight to the inside of the chassis to tame the rear end hangout and keep it in the slot. Truing both front and rear tyres will also help.
Howdy new sub ... love your nice neat work station only way to go other wise the mess gets crazy Nice Job ..I,m an HO guy ut very very nice set up See ya
Probably the wheels are out of round on the Cougar, especially the front ones. That’s common with Scalextric cars. The contact problem is either the braids are not touching the track or the braid plate is not inserted correctly. Try angling the braids towards the inside of the guide and at a 45 degree angle with the in side edge up. This is only for Scalextric tracks. Mike M.
Well I finally pulled the cougar apart. The problem was the braids. the braids were not tight around the guide and was pushing it up off the track. that is why the front sat high and bounced. I changed out the braid plate and pressed it tight to the plate . put it on the track and had a rip and it is quite fast and handles pretty nice. Surprising that the guide could cause all that.
Thats a nice thunderslot you have , Try running your scalextric with the front wheels removed ,if it runs ok then you know its a wheel ,axel or tyre probem , Greetings from Latvia ....I gave you A Subscription ....Harry

Looks and sounds like to me the front axle might be a little bent and no weight in front
