The first time I've run the game after installation, it took about 6 minutes but every subsequent launch was shorter. :)
Apparently, during the first launch, MODTEK creates ".modtek" folder which will contain cached mod files, table of contents and load order. This process can take, depending on how many mods you have installed, anything from 2 to 10 minutes. If you experience any issues with your mods at a later date, simply delete it. It will force the MODTEK to build the table of contents again (5-10 minutes loading screen) and may fix those issues.
I hope this helps someone who maybe isn't too sure about the basics of editing files, pasting them in places, etc.

When I first loaded Rouge Tech a while back I knew it would take a few minutes first time, but this time I thought the Mod hadn't taken because it took so long. Now I am back up and running and finding the alternative melee weapons is great fun. Thanks for all you r work putting this together. You should do this for other Mods.
If anyone has a big mod package like this that's worth a bash, I'll definitely consider it.
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm pretty sure that I could have gotten everything from the written tutorials, but having a video adds a lot of confidence. Also loving Roguetech. Decided to do a few easy missions to get a hang of the changes. Ran into four assault mechs on my third mission. Learned a painful lesson.

On the latest version of Windows 10 this worked perfectly on the first try. No need to kill and reload or anything like that.

Thank you! It worked perfectly. One tip for those installing the mod, the reason why it takes so long the first time is it's loading over 3500 files. Took me about 10 min of waiting, just give it time. P.S. That MW3 Icon makes me super nostalgic, first game I ever purchased.

The reason it takes so long is that "modtek builds its own database from 3500 files." This is written on the main mod page under "Important."

Yep it does, but you may still need to restart the client a few times. It sometimes gets stuck, so waiting forever might not work and you might find an hour later, that you are still staring down a black screen.

Just installed rogue tech version 0.987using your instruction. Worked brilliantly, thanks for the help. Also for others wondering about how long it will take to load rogue tech the first time it took my game about 8 minutes on the first run. Using a i7-8700k on a mechanical harddrive.

Seems like im having problem connection to comstar/merc net for some reasons....its spins forever and i cant find contracts.... have you encounter this before?
Yeah, it happens, save and reload or quickly switch planets. It only happens once.
Tried 3 new campaign, saved and re-load. CommSTar just wont work. Now im sad :(

I believe I found a workaround for the Video/looks like it crashed part when starting the game!! I just hit enter, As soon as I press ENTER, this usually skips that intro video ( the 2nd time around, like you the 1st attempt just left me with the BT Skull for 27 minutes :( ) ( as the ALPHA.MP4 video file NEVER shows up in my video folder either ) it starts the game as normal with the now installed RogueTek Splash screen and Sandbox option :) GREAT VIDEO and big thumbs up.

It's true though, something that you don't know how to do, no matter how easy a task it is meant to be is going to be very difficult. Something I've said a lot about computers to very intelligent (in their own areas) non-computer people.
@@TheEdmon I was thinking about it from the other side. That people who write directions think "this is simple" and gloss over details that others might not know.
As a simplified example, if my instructions say "save the file", and the user has never saved a file before, my instructions are useless.
@@danielskrivan6921 Yes, this is exactly why I make these guides like I do. I was a senior computer engineer for 11 years and learned during that time that you shouldn't presume anything about the skill level of the person your talking to. Of course on youtube you can't get a feel for your audience, it could be literally "anyone", so I try to keep things detailed and not miss any steps.

I think it would really help if at the start of your installation tutorial if you would breifly explain what both modtech and roguetech are, and if you need one for the other or if each is good on it's own, it would be helpful. I heard about Roguetech, grabbed it, then found your tutorial but have no idea what modtech is or if I need it for roguetech.

RogueTech is now updated to run on v1.1 as of 22/06/2018. Be sure to download the latest version before following the steps in this guide to get it installed :).
Note: As of 23/06/2018 some people are facing issues, I believe it is being worked on... Make sure you delete all save games as this might be your issue. Or back them up if you want to keep them. If you game won't load, they are located at (by default):
C:\Program Files\Steam\userdata\[YOUR STEAM ID NO]\637090

Hey mate, I tried to install, and followed your instructions, modtek loads fine, but as soon as I install roguetech, the game loads a black screen and the cursor and just hangs. Any suggestions?
EDIT: Used all the latest files as well, including modtek and the latest BTML 0.23.

Edmon tried downloading update 0988 patch 7 and got no where. Got mod tech loaded and I followed your directions but when I loaded the game only the old campaign with modtek loaded. What did I miss?

Just adding this comment, check the time it was posted. Latest patch to battletech broke battletech mod loader and modtek, so if you cant get them to work ,that's the reason. Hopefully they will be fixed at some point
Does installing this affect playing multiplayer match with people that only have the vanilla client?

Well I got it all working, until I discovered it doesn't run at all if you enter a larger mission. Then the game gets into an infinite loading loop. I looked it up, the mod devs are aware and say it's a problem with Unity (the game engine) not being able to cope with the size of the mod and tell you to lower the graphics settings to free up more memory. Alas, even at lowest settings the game won't load larger maps. It seems that due to the size of the mod it can't work with Unity any more. Shame. Hope they (either Harebrained or the mod makers) fix it, this mod has great potential.
I never encountered this issue. Is this an issue with the latest version maybe?
Hey I just Download the Mod for Battletech Enhanced star League Gear. it simple enough to install i just don't understand this instruction "2.Initiate override protocols. [mandatory]" Is this a file that comes with the mod or something else. And wear can I find it please help. my game will not load it's not your fault just mine for beaning dumb.

As you said It takes a REALLY long time for it to run the first time. I believe modtek is building a database for the mods and that is apparently a really slow process.
In the Mods folder you will find a folder called ".modtek" once you have run the game that (slow) first time. That folder contains the newly created db. If you delete that folder you will have to go through the whole slow process again.
Yes, but the process can freeze and you'll come back an hour later and still see a black screen. So you do need to make it restart once or twice at times.

I think in the latest File 0.9858Alpha4 is the Video missing. I just installed it, and no Video folder or Alpha.mp4 in Video folder of the Game. Can i get the Video separately?

This comment here from Alley is really misleading. It refers to one of the steps that I actually say isn't needed in the video. Please ignore it.
Since Rogue Tech gets updated often could you do a video on how to update the mod?
I could, but I personnally recommend that you take the back up folder (with modtek folder) that was created during this video (if you did so) and delete your current install then put that folder back. You can then simply re-install RogueTech. I hear trying to update it any other way (other than from clean) can cause all kinds of weird issues which are best avoided.

You are looking for a zip file, which should be called BMTL v0.2.2 .zip
I Am running windows enterprise it flashes so fast when it runs in administrator I cant see if it works how do I slow it down.
This guide is old, please see the pin for the latest guide or use my guides playlist on the main channel page. But if modtek window flies past (I think this is what you are talking about) then it's worked.
Worked and played for a couple of months, Game got auto updated so i re-watch and re-did this whole thing with new version of the mods. Game just wont launch anymore. Instant game is not responding and ctrl-del dont even open the window anymore. Its a shut down computer required. Im terrible with computer but i followed this video once and it worked, and now it doesn . Im confused :/
You must go through the clean uninstall. Save games are not compatible between versions and cause the crashes you describe.
tried doing this but it seems the new version that they just uploaded is missing the vidio section. It dosent put it in the section you said nor is it in the mail section for the mods

What update do you need? At the moment, the method above still works for installing RogueTech. What are you trying to do? Steam should keep your game up to date, so there isn't really any need to "patch" as such?
Nexus seems to be releasing "Patches" rather than "Updates" at the moment. Are they the same and therefore installing from the ground up is the way to go?
I don't know at the moment, my current campaign is base game. I will get up to date with it shortly and if the video needs updating I will do so. I would say though, that typically, I would always install from the ground up as it prevents any weird problems.

This guide is for version 1.1 of the basegame & Roguetech. You want the guide in the pinned message, which is for v1.5. There is no working Roguetech version for basegame v1.6
Apparently I'm an idiot because even with your VERY WELL DONE video giving me STEP BY STEP instructions, I can't get it to work. The first time I got it to the RogueTech splash screen but it wouldn't let me open a sandbox game. Now (try 3) it just keeps crashing.
I heard that the latest version of RogueTech (The Alpha one) is faulty and needs a file deleting to work properly. This could be your issue, try the fix Vagabond gave in the below comments or download the "other version" to the one you downloaded.
No luck, even went so far as to completely remove the game and delete all files. Did a reinstall with the newest NON ALPHA, "not responding" is all I get. I'd like to think I followed all instructions but maybe I missed something (4 times in a row apparently).

Right, here is the situation and given the great advice you have offered previously I hope you can help now, please. There are two issues. First BattleTech has updated to 1.1.2. The second is Roguetech has now release version .988. Now I an currently using .986 because it is stable but will it work with the latest version of BattleTech? If it will then I will at first do a reinstall and load up this version. However I am intrigued by version .988 but looking at the requirements, Modtek is no longer listed, instead the other option MPStark's BattleTech Mod Loader is the only one listed as working with this version. With this I do not know how to proceed. Any help would be appreciated, ideally a new version of this video covering how to load up the current incarnation of Roguetech as all that is involved. Until then I will just keep playing.986 and watching others play the later version with envy.

Not yet, I am trying to secure a second copy of the game so I can run both at once. Until then, or a finish my vanilla campaign, I can't play roguetech :(.
ANy Ideas what i'm doing wrong! instal all the mods per instructions and it seems to get past the potential stall point but when it does the screen stays dark with what looks like a fluctuating FPS counter on the right side of the screen.
Thought it might have been the video file as it seemed to be missing from the main video folder but I tried copying it and cutting it in but was still the same result each time.
My computer skills are pretty weak so i'm stuck now haha.

Annoyingly, while I can get the modtek installed and loaded (thanks BTW for the great install instructions), I cant get the RogueTech mod to even launch. The game just hangs before the HBS screen comes up.
Are you using the latest version? I believe it's pretty buggy but it's in active development.

and now to make things perfect, no mods actually load... still showing modtek loaded on the main screen however.
Use my uninstall guide to clean away BattleTech, then try again.
where do I get the 3 files? Doing a google for modtek gets me to a site with no files matching what he is showing.
Please check the pin. You need to be on the latest guide, this is an old version guide. You will need to downgrade to v1.5 of the game and then follow with the guide in the pin :).

Win7 here, I can confirm: first build up takes ages. Like 10-15 min.

If you are using the latest RogueTech, you need to use it's installer, which includes Modtek as standard. My other, newer guide, covers this version.

The current version of Battletech is v1.7 and Modtek is compatible with it. I will likely make a fresh guide to modding very shortly.

Well i got a problem... my pc doesn't let me copy the modtek injection.exe into my managed folder, even if i copy as admin, it still says i dont have the rights to do so - btw my antivir activated and deleted the .exe the first time i tried, after this i could copy it anymore =(
Sounds to me like you have a hostile anti-virus solution and/or you are not the administrator on your computer.
You'll have to solve these issues separately, unfortunately. Your AV should come with a guide for temporarily turning it off. If you are the admin, try temporarily turning off UAC and then putting it back on when the install is completed.
Hey, just managed to fix that problem and got the mods installed and roguetech running (even though i had to restart it like 4 times but hey, it works). Thank you very much =)

Nah, just needed to admin override BATTLETECH folder write-protection then it was fine. First tried it with only the managed folder but that didnt work, so i did it for the whole BATTLETECH game folder and and it went fine

I've got a question pertaining to modding BATTLETECH: Everyone that I've seen modding the game have not signed in to the thingie (yes I just said that) in the upper right. Is it required to sign out of any HBS or Paradox account? Or is that just a coincidence that such a thing is happening?

Followed the instructions to the letter and got to the Roguetech loading screen...But when I try to start a new sandbox game, it just loads and loads and nothing happens :(
This loading forever thing is very annoying. Just keep trying and eventually it will work. It can happen on missions as well.
Give it 10 minutes, if it didn't work, kill it in task manager and try again. After a few attempts it will behave.
5th try and gonna delete the mod folder now, I waited a whole episode of Zoo (40 min) still stuck on the screen between clicking 'new game' and the video showing...I'm getting constant tips in the top left hand corner, but that's it...
Gutted, I dunno what to say. I had an issue where one particular mission did this over and over as well. If I had a fix, I'd be the first to share it.
A few things to try:
1) Try running your BattleTech exe as admin.
2) Start again from clean and purge any old savegames, etc.
I fixed it :D I was using the latest release, which was an alfa version...When I downloaded the one from june 8th it worked like a charm :)))

End the task and reload it, wait at least 4-6 minutes on each attempts. After a few attempts it should load. If you are using HDD's, it can take a very long time, in total it can take up to 10 minutes on SSD's.

You definitely followed all the instructions? I've never encountered anyone who's had an issue doing the ModTek bit. I would consider deleting your game and the directory and starting again. Just be careful not to miss any steps.
If that would take too long, verify game files and then start again from the beginning, that should work.

The installer is caught by windows Defender and wont run.
I never had this issue. Can't really help you here, you'll have to allow it via your version of windows defender.
Now if only there were a mod to run Battletech on an engine that wasn't near worthless, then Roguetech could really shine. Why anyone thought Unity was the right match for this game is beyond me. The most advanced graphics in a Unity game I can think of is Subnautica, and yet the majority of them will still tax your system to 100% for absolutely no reason. At the very least use Unreal instead. It's seriously depressing when some 5$ asset flip someone built in 15minutes runs better than the game you spent years on.
Yeah I guess so, but this kind of thing is a bit beyond the scope of this video :). I am really enjoying the game so the engine is basically good enough. Unreal licensing is a lot of money I believe...

There is a generic guide to install mods that works, or otherwise look at the guides for each mod on nexus.
Its now running, it hands on the black screen for absolutely ages and ages. I just lest it and went for a coffee. elucid07, load the game and do the same and cross your finger.

I must admit, I never played MegaMek, though I've heard it mentioned a lot. It's a TT simulator right?
Yeah, MegaMek is a lot easier for us grognards with grey in our beards who can't figure out a download process if our life depended on it... It's a pretty darn good simulation of the tabletop that just runs on Flash. There's no fluff like fancy animations, music, or sound effects, but I believe it has all the mechs and equipment. Actually, I take it back, the last time I looked, I couldn't find my beloved Cave Lion.
