Glass artist Martin Blank and team create a human torso with silver

  • Martin Blank and his team have developed a highly specialized array of tools and techniques in order to create life-sized human figures out of solid glass. In this video we see the team creating a torso out of Glass and then how the torso is incorporated with other elements to create a pair of figures suspend in space.
    The project begins by layering clear, blue and green glasses with silver leaf. This mass is then transferred to a new pipe which is locked into a special track system and rotated by a large metal wheel. A new mass of glass is added for the hips and buttocks, and then the entire mass is covered with more fresh glass from the furnace. Martin shapes each bit of glass into the form he wants until he decides the sculpture is complete.
    The torso is then wheeled into a 1,000 degree Fahrenheit oven where it will eventually cool down. Before it can be broken off the pipe though, it must rotate for 15 minutes so the glass has time to stop moving. It is then broken off and fire-polished, before it begins its week long journey to room temperature.
    The completed sections are cut and polished to length and then suspended above the floor in the studio, before being installed in the client's home.

    I always respected glass blowing as it is easily the most dangerous form of art. I can only imagine the number of burns each of these folks have endured over their lives.

      Art in such caliber must be worth something around tens or hundreds thousands dollars I think.
      I'm trying to imagine the Artist view on this thing, how he sees it and how it was born in his mind, how he processed it during creation.
      And summarise the basich costs.
      Look at the quality of glass and silver, labor involved, how long it took to process the glass + tradeing margin + innovative factor + artistic value + price of the recipent + place it would be hanging.
      It may be well made capital expenditure ;)

    I dont understand anything thats going on in this video. Why are they rolling it in poprocks?

    • @alexazeneth3308

      sterling archer i think they are coating it in colorful sand so when it melts in that weird oven it adds a layer since glass is made of sand (tbh i learned that from minecraft lmao) at least i learned something and maybe it ads color as it spreads hope im right

    • @TheFreshSpam
      @TheFreshSpam 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      sterling archer If you don't understand anything in this video you have some serious life catching up to do. it's ovbious the blue glitter is a visual detail. At the end of the video you see the blue tint. Use your head once and a while and stop getting drip fed everything down to the last detail. What. Is it magic dust to make it float and morph? Fucking hell

    • @alexazeneth3308
      @alexazeneth3308 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      TheFreshSpam its not glitter........ Lmfao glitter sparkles and the glass wasn't sparkly it was shiny cus of the light and also he/she meant it as a joke in sure and just cus he watches this video it doesnt mean he has to know everything that is going on so calm the fuck down and also its sand how do you think the glass statue grows? "Magic" as you said? Its colorful sand so when it melts it adds a layer to the statue and dont go around saying things like this when people are just curious my advice think before you say stupid shit

    • @TheFreshSpam
      @TheFreshSpam 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@alexazeneth3308 I'm not calling him out on the pop rocks "joke". It's the fact he couldn't work out what blue dust did to clear glass when it's rolled over and mixed. Even at the begginging and end of the video you see the colour of the glass change. How blind can someone be?

    • @TheFreshSpam
      @TheFreshSpam 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@themindset4164 Most if not all people do not need any prior knowledge of glass blowing to know when you mix two things together of different colours they change. Noone asks why water turns blue if you add blue dye to it. The same concept here. I think you need to stop defending idiots who roam the planet. They need a reality check on what they are asking. Instead of asking dumb questions watch the video. I learnt that way and many others did. It's the point of the VIDEO

      LMFAO BAHAHAHA! No Idiot. That's how you make glass sculptures. The silver was added to sparkle inside the glass. They said in the video that they added silver not aluminum! Pay attention much? Obviously not.

      Due to popularity of vertical video apps such as Instagram, Snapchat etc. although unusual vertical is getting acceptable now. TH-cam mobile has implemented a decent system for viewing them. You should try it out maybe.

      @Just Looking Vertical video still feels like trying to watch what is happening through a keyhole, or like a horse wearing blinders. I know the reasons it exists is because of mobile devices, but hell, if you plan on uploading to youtube it is still a lot of wasted space. th-cam.com/video/Bt9zSfinwFA/w-d-xo.html
