Michael should show a sample of what the previous retainer fees looked like versus the false ones to show what the difference was. If Trump is cheap, then he would definitely not sign any checks without looking at them. So he would not overlook any payments
Cohen didn't have any retainer payments before this scheme was cooked up. He was a simple salaried lawyer with the Trump Organization until the reimbursement scheme when he was made personal lawyer to the president.
