My father owned the 672B model. It was a fantastic blade and it could do pretty much anything. He finished lots of grade with it and the 6 wheel drive was a huge plus. I miss chasing stakes for him. Cool video.
Being a surveyor in training and also a hobbyist grader operator, as much as I am a trimble fan and can't discount the gains of GPS and autograde systems, there's a lot to be said for the sheer skill of being able to cut level by eye. That and it's quite something to watch a grader and his ropemen work.
+Stefan van Veenendaal Considering the engineering marvels the romans created, yes I have to agree, there's a lot to be said for the sheer skill of being able to cut level by eye.
Hi bro ,how are you doing? Please I'm also a Cat grader machine operator I moved to Germany for the past two years now ,I'm now working in a company called STRABAG but their system of working with the the trimble is so in advance and I'm not so good in the German language so I hardly get what they're trying to explain to me in the trimble system and top topcon, so I try to make some search on TH-cam and I finally found your video so I wanted to ask you if you don't mind to help me with your email or WhatsApp so that I can ask you some questions about the system which I find it very tough or if there's somebody out there who wishes to help would also be grateful, please please please help because I'm losing my job 😕☹😩
yes the masts have a receiver on top. there is a base station that is set up on a known position and elevation and the receivers on the machine let the base know where the machine is at and the current elevation of the blade through satellites then the base sends a radio signal to the machine so you know where you are on the site and what elevation the blade is at.
Yeah... I cut blue tops for 5 years been on gps for almost 2 although the old school guys will argue that they don't "need" it you just can't beat the increase in efficiency and productivity. Less passes and no wait time for a surveyor to come set hubs or lath the accuracy isn't as good but it doesn't take much to switch over to ATS and have a tighter tolerance than blue topping.
Less passes?. Made a lot of passes here ... the old swede computer was pretty good too. They needed to have a reference point and the optics had to be in tune as well :-)
Yes the machine has automatic blade control that will move the mold board up or down so it's on grade provided the surface your'e working is within tolerance for the automatics to work ( usually set at 0.70 FT) and if the machine will take the cut without spinning out.
How does one get into this kind of work? Is there a school for heavy equipment or just a perk of the job? This stuff has always interested me and I hear there is good $ to be made..
I haven't seen any footage of the Trimble in use with the blade rolled forward. I would think that this would be where you would get the best use of this kind of GPS.
Just get a job with a company that is willing to train new employees. There are H. E. Operator schools but you pay a lot of money for very little experience. Yes there can be pretty good money in it depending on where you're at and how much overtime you can get

Ive seen these out on construction projects so the posts are transmitter / receiver for gps? Pretty much the thing runs on auto pilot?
That's pretty cool... I bet the guys who did this by eye 20 years ago laugh
