Great review! I have the Astrox 69, i feel like it has the good qualities that the 99 has but is easier to play with for an intermediate player such as myself, 3 times a week. SUPER easy to generate power on smashes and clears but also very accurate on net play. We play mostly doubles
Saw the post in Reddit. I have had the 99 for the past 6 months, 4U, usually play doubles. Clears take a bit of effort, more than the Voltric ZFII (which I sometimes mishit with due to the smaller head). Smashes are great on the 99. The mention about the stiffness and the shock into the wrist is about spot on. I also have the LCW which I only have in 3U, that felt a lot more heavier with an overgrip so prefer the 4U.
Thanks for visiting and the feedback! Agree with the ZFII :) I've played with the 3U ZFII and found it too heavy for my liking! We haven't had a chance to play with the 3U astrox 99 just yet though
Thank you love your review, yes I already got it , i love this raket, beast among the beast, hehe, coz im using the old one astrox 99 Lcw and the sapphire color one, but this one different,. ., chur bro 🤙
Thanks Stephan! Hopefully when we're out of lockdown here we'll be able to continue recording more videos! I wouldn't use the shoes we're wearing in the video to be honest! We're both wearing Adidas and Nike shoes which are not designed for court-use. The reason is because normal badminton shoes are very flashy and don't align with our brand's image. We don't play properly with these shoes on. Jeff was kind enough to give me a pair of Li Ning shoes which I currently use when playing properly and I believe he has Li Ning shoes as well. Traditionally, I've always used Yonex shoes for badminton :)
@@Volantbadminton Thanks for the reply! And yes I love the idea of less vibrant and flashy clothing for badminton. Hope to see you guys designing some badminton specific shoes in the future.
Hi guys, I’ve watched your few videos it’s really helpful. Im currently using Astrox 99 and I love it but I broke few and last one left and it’s out stock now, please recommend me which racket is similar to Astrox 99?
Hi, I’ve previously played with a victor bravesword 12, even balanced, very agile and responsive in front/midcourt, found it bit lacking in power from the backcourt. For example clears require more effort when under pressure. That’s why been thinking of changing back to a head heavy racket, hoping to generate more power especially from the backcourt. Is this a good one? Not a full on offensive player but variable, depends on the opponent and situation, lol.
Hi Hunter, it can be a challenging racquet to get used to because of it's stiff shaft so it will depend on you. We haven't used the Bravesword 12 before but I think you'll find that the two racquets will play very differently. I would definitely ask someone you know (if they have it) to test it out first before committing as on paper, these two racquets are quite different.
Heya Jason! Henry here. Great question. Jeff & my current go-to racquets are slightly aged in the badminton world (with new racquets coming out every so often). He uses the Li Ning N90iii & I use the Yonex Armortec 900 Technique. If I had to choose a more modern day racquet, I personally, would be using the Nanoflare 800 :)
Hi, i m using muscle power 29 lite for 3 years. I play both offensive and defensive style well with good smashes and drops from third line. I play daily DOUBLES in club with mavis 350 in a serious way. Please suggest a good racket for the mentioned play style! Thanks
Can you recommend me an astrox racket? I'm a single player but I'm too scared to buy vltd coz it might not suit me. I actually prefer lightweight rackets.
Hey Tim, Great question. I think Jeff and I have differing opinions about this. To answer your question, they're both great for power generation but the way that power is generated is a bit different between the two. The key driver of power for the Astrox 99 is the heady-heavy nature of the racquet when swinging (which helps to generate momentum) where as with the NF800 it's related to the swing speed you can generate and the aeroframe technology (which essentially makes the racquet head act like a trampoline when contacting the shuttle). I have a fairly big swing so I didn't feel much power difference between the two, although we didn't measure the actual speed of the shots produced. To me, the power difference is marginal but that's based on how I play (my big swing probably is benefited by the NF800 as I can generate a lot of swing speed). However, Jeff is of the opinion that the you can generate more power with Astrox 99. If I had to give you a straight answer and what you're after is power, I would say the Astrox 99 is probably a bit more powerful (definitely if you have a short swing). Hope this helps!
@@Volantbadminton thank you for such an elaborate response, I'm going to be really sad when you guys have like 100k subs and u wont be able to respond to comments :(, I think what i would love to see is have u guys rate the types of shots as well, like how good a raquet is at driving, smashing, drops cross-courts and so on. I know u guys have control, power and defence ratings but i feel like i would get more insight if i knew what kind of shots the raquet is best at. I think one other thing u could add for content is how durable do u guys think the racquet is. ,After watching your review i was thinking maybe i shouldve gotten the NF800 over the AX99, cos all the stats for NF800 were better than AX99 and the thing one thing i thought AX99 would have over NF800 was power lol. I was also wondering how much more control is there between 8/10 and 9/10 for control?
@@timguy204 More than happy to help if I can Tim! I can see how that could help people as well so will see if I can work it into future videos. Maybe we could do something like a favourite shot with the racquet? I'll brainstorm with Jeff :) My concern with adding durability as something we discuss is that it'll be much more opinion/subjective than objective as we're trying to be unbiased but will consider it too. The thing to remember at the end of the day, the ratings we give is opinion-based even though we're trying to be objective. So how we rate the racquet will definitely be affected by what we're like as players and what we prefer too. Don't get me wrong, the AX99 is a solid racquet as well but they're two very different racquets haha. Deciding between a head-heavy racquet and head-light racquet is usually an easy decision if you have a preference. The NF800 makes it challenging! If I were give you an objective amount for control between an 8/10 - 9/10, I would say somewhere between 5-10%
If you go based on the scores we gave it, then the 88D pro. But there is no "better", just personal preferences and opinions. We would prefer the 88D Pro, you might not. Either way, using one over the other isn't going to make you a much better player. Only you can do that :)
Hi Agum, we've never tested them so can't really comment. I believe the Momota/LCW version of the racket is mostly just a paint job though so I don't think there'd be any difference really so more a matter of personal preference and whether you wanted a Momota/LCW racket haha. Hey guys, I've been rocking the voltric 80 for years now and I'm thinking of getting a new racquet. Obviously the voltric line is gone and replaced by the astrox line. What would be the best 1:1 replacement for the voltric 80? I just came off testing the astrox 88d and it wasn't as strong in terms of smashing as I would like as the head definitely was not as heavy as my voltric. So I wasn't a huge fan of it. Would that mean I'd go for the astrox 99?
