This brings back a lot of memories for me.. I joined Ganges in November 1959 as a 16 year old sprig and left as a 27 year old man in 1970. Great choice of background music. Thanks for posting.
I was there The year before in 1965 Jim. Down at the Engineering department explaining how the steering gear works. Toughest gig I ever had in twenty five years in the mob.
There you go Jim, 8 subscribers. These old films of our parents day etc, they bring some great memories back. Who'd have thought we'd be looking at these pictures on our phones 56 years later, amazing. The years seem to make our time there fun, I know some of it was exciting and fun but Friday night routine, no way was that fun. I sure I remember being under punishment for some minor break of the rules, having the double round the parade ground in single file with a 303 rifle. There was an NCO in the middle with a whistle, every time he blew it once we had to turn and double in the other direction, if he blew it twice the boy on the back had to run and join to the front. If the NCO didn't like you or you do exactly as told, you'd end up at the front then one blast we'd all turn round, two blasts you'd race to the front... one blast, all turn .... two blasts and off to the front, Horrible, I can't remember it happening to me but I can remember it happening to some poor little sod. Strange we like the memories of the place.
Thank you so much for this. It was wonderful and really emotional to see the RM band. My dad was a member of it in 1968. Brought back some happy memories ❤️ My mum worked in the NAAFI and I learnt to swim in the pool at Ganges. They put on great Christmas parties for the kids too - happy days x
My husband was there on this day .As were his parents Elsie and Eric Sharpe from Boston Lincolnshire. If anyone remembers Peter Sharpe please get in touch. Nice to reminisce.
Angela if Peter is on the net he should join the H.M.S. Ganges group in Facebook and also have a look through the Ganges Museums Archive and Photo galleries. www.hmsgangesmuseum.com/ pbase.com/hms_ganges_museum
I was there as were some family members, great day nice to see them, then back to reality when they all went home
