I have written uncomplimentary things about Mike's talent; but DEFINITELY, Mike is bullied or the punching bag of the staff. It is like a fraternity that invites the oddball to their house for a party, as a goof that all the brothers are in on. Love Artie to death, but he initiates it and everybody jumps in like a ganggong. He carried it to the second show, Halfway House. Then again, without Artie, Mike would be unemployed and no one would know whom he is. I do not know (no poll taken) how much of the general population know who Artie is (2 bestsellers, though).
In fairness I think Arties issue is not with Mikes talent but more with his approach to developing his talent ie. his attrocious laziness, poor attitude to research , his refusal to take artistic advice from anyone who truly cares about him.
They should have just immediately complied with his request(s). Instantaneously he wouldn’t even be a visible piece of the show. Within a show & a half he would be begging to be teased on-air again.
Comedy is over when you can't even good-naturedly rib someone like they did with Mike. Guys like Stern, etc, sometimes went way over the line with unique people like Mike. Totally degraded them in every disgusting way. On this show, they busted Mike's chops, but it never felt malicious or from a bad place. It always highlighted how naturally funny and entertaining Mike was. It felt like friends joking with each other, and you always got the feeling Artie really cared about Mike. My God. The weather segment alone is some of the funniest stuff ever. What a forum he had that people loved him in. Pathetic that a comic of any level, especially one in the business so long doesn't get that. If he had an agent, they might have been able to convey to him how important to his career that is. He's like a pro wrestler that believes it's real and is mad that he doesn't "win" all of the time instead of recognizing that what matters most is drawing fans and playing your role and helping the promotion succeed because then EVERYONE wins and makes money and moves ahead career-wise. Awful. It seems like the great performers in anything are able to separate the entertainment from real life. Not sure how he's been doing stand up so long. Crowds must be a lot nicer than we give them credit for.

I think it's different with Mike than the Wack Pack in general. Not only is Mike way more there than the majority of them, he's been known to a lot of people for decades.
