    Great information and video. Thank you! I have never had a Garmin device before and the instructions are a little lacking. Once I watched your video, I had no problem getting my bike computer paired with my phone and setup. I'm looking forward to going out on my first ride with it.

    Hi James, I went for a 2 hour 57 minute ride with the Garmin edge 520 plus. The battery started at 70% and I finished with 50%. So that puts it almost exactly at 15 hour battery life if the battery percentage indicator is perfectly linear. On the ride, I had the screen brightness at 0% and two Ant+ connections, a Stages power meter and Garmin Heart Rate chest strap.

    Can we download maps in it and what about its navigation facility (accuracy)?

    • @pedalpowercycling
      @pedalpowercycling  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can download "courses" but Garmin provides the maps free of charge. I don't think you can download another map from Alltrails or somewhere else and load it onto the device. It has been pretty accurate but I'll take it on a ride with a video camera to show you.

      @@bineetpatel774 You're welcome, so far maps has been accurate within about 10-50 feet depending on if the sky is clear. If you're in a tunnel you'll lose satellites. If you go off course from navigation it'll tell you within 50-100 feet depending how fast you're going (there's processing time before it tells you).

    Does it show real time elevation gain, during the ride? Also, can this be used without the phone?

    • @pedalpowercycling
      @pedalpowercycling  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes there is a real time elevation field. You don't need to use a phone while riding, it helps synching. I think you can also plug it into a computer directly with micro usb cable and synch that way.

    A little late to the video but does anyone know if you can change the category of the ride after doing it? I didn't use the categories until after I had ridden a bunch of rides but it would be really cool to be able to see how much distance I've ridden on different surfaces (gravel, road, mtb, etc). And by categories, I mean the thing you select after clicking "RIDE" Thanks!

    Just a side note for anyone wanting to use Garmin in China. Chinese mapping is offset to normal GPS, you will need to get a Garmin China account registered. This is a bit of a pain, but easy to do.
    If you already have a Garmin account set up, you will need to create a whole new one for China. To do this you will need to create an account with a different email address, you will also need the WWW address for Gamin China.
    If you live in China and buy a Garmin, do not use the quick start process, as this will create a Garmin global account (i.e. The reset of world but not China).

    I just unboxed my 520 plus last week, all is working fine except for the strava live segments & garmin segments. They wont sync to my device, I'm set up on strava subscription 30 days free test. I have strava enabled on GC & a few of my favourite segments enabled. But will not transfer over when i sync with garmin express & the android GC app? Any ideas whats wrong?

    • @pedalpowercycling
      @pedalpowercycling  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear that, I don't have live segments enabled with Strava. Are you certain that bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone and Garmin Edge 520 plus? Are you riding with your smartphone on in regular mode (can't be in airplane mode)? Garmin has had problems in the last week and all features may not have been fully restored yet.

    Does anybody know how to get a ride to Strava from a phone? I've damaged my Garmin so I can't download the rides to Strava through my computer. I was able to send the rides to my phone and then Email the ride to my computer. But I still haven't been able to get it to my Strava profile. I tried to go through Garmin support but they were worthless with an attitude If I can't solve this problem I will have to buy another. • @pedalpowercycling

      I don't think you can navigate to a specific street address on this Edge 520 plus. My Edge 820 can. With the 520 you would need to pre-define a course and load it to your device.

      I use mapmyride or ridewithgps for route planning. I've also used the Garmin to follow directions but it wasn't that great. I missed a turn and then the Garmin stopped navigating the rest of the ride. But, that was years ago and they may have updated the firmware since. Do you use mapmyride or ridewithgps? I have got an Edge 520 Plus and still have issues like that. I cannot for the life of me understand why every Bluetooth speaker or earphone can connect pair and connect in a split second apart from being too far away from the phone to stay connected through whatever might happen. Still, these blo*dy bike computers cannot manage to connect correctly every single time if they are sitting right next to my phone on my desk. Let alone out on a ride when I really am not in the mood to start fiddling with tiny buttons and 'wait' - like 10mins on the side of the road - before anything happens...
