This is a neat idea but there is a big deal breaker right off the bat for me and that is i cant go to the website, see a price and determine wether im remotely interested or not without submitting my information. I dont understand these companies and why their prices are a secret. Yeah yeah i get it, they prefer you go through a dealer i suppose. Maybe thats not it at all but there can still be an msrp on the website. Ive been interested in several attachments over the years and lost interest immediately because of not being able to see a price on the companies website.
Will look forward to seeing this in action. I can only imagine over time, download an app on a phone, stick it to the dipper and watch the wireless monitor while digging.

I am planning developing my own land and I am investigating ways to dig and grade accurately and efficiently as a sole worker/operator unassisted. I have looked into a system called iDig which I believe is a French company that may operate similarly to Easy Dig. I was looking at Spectra Precision laser systems, too. I look forward to learning more about Easy Dig.

That is nice and I think have filled a need with one of these. With this it gives you a real time depth instead of measuring with magnetic laser receiver you are using your boom and bucket as a stick so you have to wait. If you were digging a flat you might be able to dig out a spot in the spot to get your machine at the depth the. Move you machine in the of and dig out 360 provided you had a machine carrying the materials offsite.

Topcons MC mobile and pocket 3D is a better product if you're doing smaller landscaping projects fulltime. You can take the tablet and use it on a grade stick or inside your machine. Allows you to do layout and grade and save into the tablet for jobs that didnt come with a set of plans. It's a laser total station mix and non GPS. Has about the same learning curve as what you've shown.
This looks quite handy and can really see the advantages this could provide. Would love to get this capability on my smaller mini-ex, would really save time and increase accuracy. Assuming you have the work to utilize this on, the cost would be a no brainier, though is likely a bit steep for those that are not using the machine consistently to bring home the bacon. What I would really like to get is something that I think should be "simpler" though have not found, and not sure if this is an optional add-on for this system, maybe you know? That is a blade height readout, for the dozer blade on the machine. I would love to know when the blade is "level" with the bottom of the tracks (really mean "in-line" with the tracks), yes would also love to know the height above or below the tracks when using, but just to know when you have the blade at the right height to push forward or backdrag and know you are maintaining/working in the plane of your tracks! I know you can sort of get that by engaging the blade in float and then taking it out of float without moving it, but would like something..... less temper-mental or conditions sensitive, I guess more digital. What would be cool with a system like this would be for dealers to offer it as a rental tool, it's not something i could justify owning but it looks easy enough to setup that $500 for a weeks rental would interest a lot of people.
The sensor that needs to be rotated is there for going down into a hole then it knows cab at -20 degrees boom gets offset dipper gets offset and bucket as well. When going back to flat land they get reset.
Great observation Martin. Like our iDig system, we use a chassis sensor that we put inside the cab and it measures the level and rotation of the machine. Consider if the machine is sitting out of level on a -5% grade left to right. With the bucket at any elevation, as I rotate the machine left without changing the boom or dipper stick, the bucket elevation goes up. This sensor defines this change and corrects the elevation of the bucket.

Is 5 amps is more than the automobile power cigarette lighters can put out? Also I have seen the company provided controls that you set and the machine properly digs the 0rogrammed grade. This looks like a bolt on guide for the operator to have sensor guidance. Curious about the differiences in functionality..
Hello from a cold Midwest. There are two basic systems in the industry - indicate systems that indicate the current position of the cutting edge and automatic that control the hydraulics of the machine. There are pros and cons for each type of system. A large advantage for an indicate system is cost. Our iDig system, as an example, starts at 20% of the cost of an automatic system. Tim mentions the guy that checks grade for him and he gets great results - which I'm sure is true. What this individual fails to consider is the cost of the grade checker. With iDig - our grade checker is no longer needed and is off doing something more productive than waiting to tell the operator where grade is. Beside that, while the checker is figuring out grade the machine is sitting idle burning fuel and machine hours.
I realize the category states "comments-not complaints"! I too am an old man but Tim you appear alittle aged to sit in the pickup and play video games on your phone while the excavator completes the task! Skill to operate is the entire idea! All these receivers mean one is not an operator and lacks the skill to ever be an operator!!! Personally my belief is time would be better spent learning to recognize and obtain grade! Everyone that does not operate the tracks with the foot pedals don't know what they are doing either, another needed practice!
I suspect the reason for the one wired sensor is either that the sensor itself simply pulls too much power, or that they have other custom electronics (like a sensor fusion processor) in it, and that the power and/or data bandwidth exceeds what can be effectively done over Bluetooth. Also, I get amused at these people who arbitrarily declare it a waste of money and that you just learn to dig manually. Same people no doubt were protesting in the street when horseless carriages became the rage.
Yeah, my mom got her teeth knocked out when her father took her on her first car ride. They were about to hit something yanked back on the steering wheel and yelled whoa. She still complains about that.
wow, Really……. Just burn some fuel and learn how to dig???? I have operators now that can’t hit the ground if their GPS is down!! Give me a real operator and offset grade steaks any day. Looks like with all these AI like gizmos we are really dumbing down as a people! Crazy!

I honestly do not believe this system is a substitute for skill. Further, I think this system will HELP you develop skill rather than prevent it.

Tim was an IT guy during his career so he loves this stuff. And I find it interesting there are companies that make this type of add on kit.
All this technology is just getting a little too much for me.
