- The cherry blossoms at the University of Washington are at full peak and I am taking myself on a field trip to finally see them! Along the way I’ll teach you the difference between cherry blossoms and flowering plum.
Enjoy!
Kate
Thank you for sharing this field trip. Love love that yellow magnolia 💕The moss, the beautiful cherry blossom are amazing. What a beautiful campus . Good information as well. Thank you!
Awww… thanks for coming along! I honestly was shocked by how much the moss and ferns added to the aesthetic. It was breathtaking!
I hope you realize how much we appreciate you. Another great video from your lovely part of are world. Thanks for taking us alone and expressing all your knowledge. ❤ Have a great Holiday.
Awww… thank you for coming with me! It’s so much fun for me to share what I love. 💕
Oh my goodness it takes your breath away ❤❤❤
Doesn’t it?!? 🌸
Beautiful and informative! I enjoyed this so much. Thank you for sharing.❤
You are so welcome! Thanks for coming along. 🌸
Thank you for sharing. I had the chance to view the “Awesomeness” of the Cherry Blossoms a few years ago when I visited my son in Seattle. 💚
Oh I’m so glad you got to see them! It was pure magic.
Truly magical, Kate! Heartfelt thanks for bringing us along! Walking with you through this beautiful campus felt like an Artist Date. Now I am filled with inspiration for the day! Springtime greetings from Illinois! 🩷
Oh my gosh… this is such high praise. Thank you so much! I love wandering gardens and seeing what others create. This may need to be a series. 😊
Love love love Katsura!! And from one Washingtonian to another-yes! flowering currant is all around my area right now. Love it as well!
Love the tour Katie! 🩷
Yes! Another Katsura fan! 😆 They are such a beautiful tree.
Thanks for sharing it was a beautiful start to my day
Glad you enjoyed it! 🌸
Absolutely stunning 🥰🥰
I whole heartedly agree! 💞
I’ve lived in the PNW most of my life. I even lived not far from the Arboretum. I have visited the arboretum many times but never the UW campus during cherry blossom season. I’ll have to drive up there in the next week or so to visit. Thank you, for sharing your field trip with us! ❤️
So happy you enjoyed it!
Stunning.
It truly is. And the excitement was palpable. 🌸 Thank you for watching!
I went to school at the U but never knew the history behind the cherry trees. Very interesting.
My mom and aunt are also UW grads. It’s such a fabulous school!
Wow, so appreciate you bringing us along! Those students are so blessed. What a magical place!
They sure are! My mom and aunt are UW grads and have such fond memories of the quad.
Beautiful area! Who does your video taping? Good job🎬
My wonderful partner followed me around and I did a little shooting too. He is WONDERFUL and so endlessly supportive. 💕
Oh my that was so magical! Thank you so much to allowing us to share that beauty with you! 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
Well thank you for coming with me! I’m so happy to have you all along for the ride. 💕
So beautiful I definitely appreciate nature. Thanks for taking us along.😍
Wow!!!! They are so incredible!!! Thanks for sharing the differences with us!! I know a ton about flowers and so little about trees… I’m ashamed! My next book will be about trees!!!!!!
Trees are HARD. Especially all the evergreens. Thanks for watching! It was so fun to share. 😊
This was absolutely breathtaking
I feel so fortunate to have seen them. I think this might be a new yearly tradition!
What a wonderful way to spend the day. You must be about a month ahead of our cherry blossoms of Niagara. Thanks for the ID differences btw. plum & cherry. Loved the yellow magnolia. Spring envy here...
Oh I get envious of some of the earlier zones too… but your spring will come! And I’m so glad to share a few little ID tricks. ☺️
Hello friend! The petals resting on that blanket of moss!! Breathtaking! Thank you for taking us along!
Thanks for coming with me! And I know… I’m a sucker for those little micro-moments of moss and petals.
Loved the tour around the quad. When my husband was being treated at the UW Medical Center, we walked over to the quad to see the blossoms. They were stunning! A lot more people there, too. You hit it on a quiet day. Next time you go, if the fallen blossoms are dry, pick up a handful and throw them in the air. Have someone take your picture. Makes a good shot. We planted a Red Flowering Currant on our property because it's a PNW native and the hummingbirds like to feed on it. The hummers will follow the blooms up the coast. The first male Rufous arrived on March 16th this year. Some years they come on March 7th. Anna's are here all year long.
Oh that will for sure be a photo I take with my kids next year! I was lucky to go on a weekday morning. It was a gift.
How beautiful! I have never been but it was wonderful seeing it through your eyes. Happy Spring!
Happy spring to you and thanks for coming along! 😊
Just Beautiful ! 🌸, that’s my dream the Cherry Blossom 🌸
I wish you all could’ve been there in person!
Thank you for sharing and teaching us. I am thankful for you!
You are so welcome and I am thankful for all of YOU!
Thank you for sharing. I lived there for 30 years and never saw them up close. My only excuse would have been working at a wholesale greenhouse in Seattle and were very busy. ❤
Isn’t it so funny what is right under our nose that we don’t stop to enjoy. It only took me 44 years. 🤦🏼♀️
Thank you for sharing! So beautiful! We have a Japanese cherry tree garden here in SE Minnesota but wont be blooming for another month. I love taking my lunch down there to eat while sitting underneath the trees when they're blooming.
I bet it is spectacular and the perfect lunch spot! You’re so close to those spring lunch dates!
Thank you for sharing. That was beautiful 🥰
You are so welcome! 😊
So incredibly beautiful.
I agree. 🌸 Thanks for watching!
Great video. My neighbor across the street has a huge yellow magnolia tree but she keeps eyeing my little Jane magnolia tree (pink). Thanks for helping me appreciate the yellow one more now.
Isn’t that always the way. I’m making an effort to appreciate all the things I already have in my life. 🌸
WOW, thanks for the tour, beautiful 😊
My pleasure 😊
Thank you for sharing the cherry blossoms with us. I had know idea they could live that long! So do they also produce a fruit?
They do! The Yoshino will produce a tiny little fruit but it isn’t something humans will eat or enjoy. But the birds will love them! It’s definitely ornamental.
Thanks for the tour! I haven’t seen them in person yet but my daughter is graduating high school next year and is hoping to get into UW so then I have a reason to go visit her 😉🌸 We’ve gone to the campus before and I agree, the landscaping is beautiful!
Fingers crossed for her! It’s such an incredible school.
I have relatives who live in Ballard…must visit the campus and the coffee shop next time I visit!
Oh yay! I love supporting small businesses and the folks at Woodland are always so kind. And Ballard is such a fun part of the city!
What a gorgeous campus. Magical is the right word! Thank you for taking us along 🌸
It was so fun to take a break from the hustle… and so good for my soul! Thanks for tagging along!
thank you - love that campus/setting!
It’s so gorgeous. Thanks for coming along!
Thanks for taking us along!!
Any time! It was so fun and I’m already thinking of our next field trip. 💕
The audio seems to be on high speed. Anyone else having same issue?
I just checked and all seems fine on my end. I wonder if it somehow ended up on 2x or higher?
Amazing!!
It sure was. 😊
Gorgeous!
It truly was. Thank you for watching!
What a treat!
We are so lucky to have them here. 🌸
Currants? I didn’t think currants were allowed in America because they have some incurable disease that affects white pine trees and currants. England has chosen the currants, we have chosen the pines. Is this correct?
We don't have any problems with disease on our Red Flowering Currant. We don't have a lot of pines here on the west or "wet side" of the mountains. Douglas Fir, Hemlocks, Western Red Cedars - are the native growing trees around here.
So interesting. Ribes sanguineum is a much loved native and I’ve never experienced them showing any sign of disease.
